Chapter 306 Borrowing Money

"Okay!" Aunt Gong agreed immediately when she heard she could get the money. "Your father and I are old, so you should buy sleeper tickets and drive us there!"

Aunt Gong knew that this was her last time taking the train, so she had to make a grand entrance.

Several old ladies who came with us from the farm were all thinking of looting things from the team members' homes.

"Okay!" Lin Zitao agreed on Gong Changzheng's behalf. "The sleeper ticket will be deducted from your allowance according to the Ministry of Land and Resources' regulations."

"Yes!" Gong Changzheng no longer felt any burden. He could pay back the money slowly. He could still work for decades and would eventually be able to pay off the debt.

Mrs. Gong took out 600 yuan from the house, and Yunfeng, as a witness, counted the money first.

"This is 600, count it first!" Yunfeng looked at Aunt Gong.

Aunt Gong's eyes lit up when she saw the money. She grabbed the thick stack of Great Unity notes and began to count them.

When Su Jin came back, he saw Aunt Gong still counting money, so he put 900 yuan in front of her.

Aunt Gong directly hugged Da Tuanjie in front of her and continued to count the money. After counting 1,500 yuan twice, she nodded at Old Man Gong.

Old Man Gong signed the agreement to sever ties and also included an agreement to divide the family. For the sake of their younger son, Old Man Gong and Aunt Gong simply gave up their eldest son. This time they took the money back, and they would not let their eldest son support them in their old age. Even when he was sick, Gong Changzheng would not have to give him money.

Gong Changzheng nodded and asked the political commissar to write a severance document, a copy of which would be mailed to the county's armed forces department for archiving.

"Once you sign it, you can't go back on your word. Sister-in-law Gong, collect their belongings and send them to the station before dawn. Gong Changzheng will drive the car." Lin Zitao warned Sister-in-law Gong in person, "The Armed Forces will be keeping an eye on you. From now on, don't bother Gong Changzheng again."

Old Man Gong nodded immediately and asked Aunt Gong to put the money in the bag and then held it in her arms.

Later, Gong Changzheng drove over and Lin Zitao pointed at the bag of money.

"Take your parents to the post office in the county town and remit the money. When they return, wait for the remittance slip to come and pick up the money." Lin Zitao told Gong Changzheng. Father and Aunt Gong held the bag tightly. "It might be stolen on the train."

"We're not going back by train. Let Dalang drive us back!" Aunt Gong objected immediately when she heard that her money might be stolen. "We can't afford to lose our money."

Lin Zitao was unwilling to argue with them, so he asked Gong Changzheng to write an application for the car to leave the city in person. After Lin Zitao signed, Gong Changzheng continued to write a letter of introduction.

"Gong Changzheng, come back and write up your leave slip. You'll be back in two days!" Lu Shiyi reminded Gong Changzheng, "They are not allowed to appear in the military area again."

"Yes!" Gong Changzheng agreed immediately.

Old Man Gong and Aunt Gong looked at the money they had received with smiles on their faces, feeling that this trip was truly worth it.

Gong Changzheng wrote a leave note and a letter of introduction, placed them in front of Lu Shiyi and Lin Zitao, picked up the package packed by Mrs. Gong, and put it directly into the trunk of the car.

Old Man Gong and Aunt Gong were discussing how to go back home, not paying any attention to the people present.

Mrs. Gong stood in the room awkwardly. Su Jin walked up to her and asked her to sit over there with him.

But Aunt Gong refused to accept this and started yelling, "We're all going back, and you won't even cook for us on the way?"

When Mrs. Gong heard Aunt Gong's scolding, she stood up and was about to prepare food for the journey, but Mrs. Yunfeng pulled her to sit down.

"You should have quite a bit of food in your pocket, right?" Sister Yunfeng pointed to the packed bag. "The zipper is open, and I see four cans of luncheon meat and a large bag of steamed buns inside."

Mrs. Gong took two steps forward and unzipped the bag. After opening the bag, she found that a lot of the lost food was inside, even the sausages from the kitchen were wrapped up and put in.

"Mom, aren't you going to let us cook at home? Dazhu is still growing, and you took all the meat away. We don't even have any meat left at home." Mrs. Gong pointed at the bacon in the bag and asked, "You said we should take all the frozen meat back home. It's hard to hunt at home. The mountains here on the farm are closed, so we don't even have the chance to hunt. We can't go to the county town to buy meat either. Are you going to let our family have no meat for the New Year?"

Aunt Gong glared at her wife: "Da Lang went into the mountains to dig traps. It's still several months before the New Year. How can there be no meat? Don't you want to take it away from us? You are so unfilial. Is this how you treat your daughter-in-law?"

Mrs. Gong started to cry. The two elders had been visiting the house for the past few years and had almost taken away everything in the house, leaving Gong Changzheng and his wife with no way to express their suffering.

Su Jin and Yun Feng are worthy of comforting Mrs. Gong. If they talk too much, Mrs. Gong will take advantage of the situation to make trouble.

"Minister Lu, Political Commissar, the things have been put up there. Dad, Mom, consider these as your son's final filial gift to you." Gong Changzheng looked at his wife, "I'll buy some meat when I get back."

After hearing what Gong Changzheng said, Mrs. Gong could only nod and agree.

Aunt Gong looked at Sister-in-law Gong with pride. Even though the family had split up, Gong Changzheng was still filial.

"Wife, you don't have to send anything anymore in the future. We can just give you enough at once." Gong Changzheng explained in public.

After hearing this, Mrs. Gong immediately laughed.

After hearing what Gong Changzheng said, Su Jin felt a little better. It was good that she could protect the mother and child. At least it was not too late.

Aunt Gong wanted more, but was stopped by Old Man Gong's eyes. She planned to have a good talk with Gong Changzheng on the way back.

After the two left, Lu Shiyi and Lin Zitao stepped forward and asked Gong Changzheng to leave later.

"Since you've split up, don't get involved in their affairs anymore. It's probably not going to be peaceful along the way. You have to control yourself and never make your family feel bad again." Lin Zitao reminded Gong Changzheng.
