Chapter 6 Exposing the Crime in the Street

It was lunch time in the armed forces department. Lu Shiyi heard the soldiers shouting slogans and going to the cafeteria to eat. Lu Shiyi returned to the office and his guard Zong Li rushed to the office door.

"Report!" Zong Li shouted slogans as usual and pushed the door open. "Minister, you're finally here. Do you want me to bring you lunch?"

Su Jin heard someone talking outside the office and looked in Lu Shiyi's direction: "Should I step aside for a moment?"

"Stay here." Lu Shiyi said softly, turning his head and looking towards the entrance with a stern face, "Go to the cafeteria and get two lunches. Also, buy a pound of apples and a pound of pears from the supply and marketing cooperative in the courtyard."

"Yes!" Zong Li replied loudly.

After closing the office door, Zong Li looked inside from the window of the back door, looking up and down at Su Jin. Seeing Su Jin's clothes without patches, fair face and slender white hands, he began to worry about Lu Shiyi. Su Jin's family background must be very good. Could she be interested in Lu Shiyi?

"Xiao Jin, I just told the guard that if there is any danger in the future, you should just come here to hide." Lu Shiyi reminded.

Su Jin nodded, stood up and stood in front of the window, looking at the team shouting slogans and running towards the cafeteria not far away.

Lu Shiyi quickly processed the documents in his hand. If the political commissar did not agree to let Lu Shiyi bring Su Jin here, Lu Shiyi would have to send Su Jin home first and then deal with the work. The unit's confidentiality regulations must also be followed.

The office fell into silence, but the educated youth who came to the market in the county town started to make a commotion. Tao Jing was buying pork at the market, but was pushed aside by an old lady from the third team who cut in line. The anger that she had suppressed in her heart instantly erupted.

"What are you doing? Pushing people for no reason? Don't you know you have to queue?" Tao Jing, who was more domineering, glared at her. "Auntie, are you thinking of getting something for nothing? Everyone else is queuing properly, and you're planning on cutting in?"

Aunt Wu is the most outspoken person in the third team. She looks down on the educated youth who came to the countryside and is particularly biased towards boys.

"Girls coming from the city are so uneducated that they don't know how to respect the elderly and love the young." Aunt Wu had suffered at the hands of the educated youth in the village. She wanted to frame one of the educated youth so that her stupid son could get a wife for free. However, the educated youth in the village were wary of this trick of the villagers. They would rather eat at the educated youth's place than at the homes of ordinary people.

The villagers of the Fourth Brigade had a relatively harmonious relationship with the educated youth, and the educated youth even lived in the homes of ordinary people during the winter.

"Haha, I heard that someone in your village raped a female educated youth during a meal, and the next day she jumped into the river and committed suicide." Tao Jing looked down on the people in the third team. When the female educated youth were in a meeting, she specifically talked about this matter in private.

When Aunt Wu heard this, she immediately became anxious. The team leader deliberately suppressed the news. If the county's educated youth office got the news, the Third Team would be in trouble.

"Don't accuse me, who would do that?" Aunt Wu's voice trembled.

Tao Jing's words were like a drop of water falling into a frying pan. People nearby stopped to watch. Many educated youth from the Third Brigade dared not speak out. They had to continue working in the Third Brigade. The villagers were very xenophobic. The brigade leader controlled how much food they were given and even their return quota.

"The Youth League Office hasn't heard the news!" A woman in her 40s, dressed in a Lenin suit, stood in the crowd. "Don't be afraid, child. Is this news true? If we can contact the educated youth from a brigade, as long as the news is confirmed, they can leave the brigade where the incident occurred today and go to another brigade to serve as educated youth."

Tao Jing was stunned for a moment, then quickly looked around. The educated youth from the third brigade did not dare to step forward rashly.

"I'm Jin Ying, deputy director of the Youth League Office. This is my work ID. As long as what you said is true, I will transfer you to other villages that are not satisfied with the Youth League quota. I remember the Second Brigade, the Sixth Brigade, and the Seventh Brigade are all OK." Jin Ying said cheerfully. She was also a retired soldier. Seeing the Youth League being killed in the city, she became more and more angry.

Several female educated youth from the third brigade looked at each other and found that there was a hint of determination in each other's eyes.

"We are all female educated youth from the Third Brigade. What Tao Zhiqing said is true. We didn't dare to act alone. Many people in the Third Brigade drugged the educated youth and killed more than one of them." The girl in the lead was from the first batch of female educated youth to come to the Third Brigade. She deliberately made herself ugly and rarely appeared in the village, so everyone ignored her. "I'm Wang Xin. I was one of the first group of educated youth to join the Third Brigade six years ago. There were four female educated youth who came with us at that time. One of them was forced to marry the old widower because of rumors spread by him. The women in the village helped her and forced her into a desperate situation. On the night of the wedding, the old widower tried to rape her. They didn't even get a marriage certificate, so the educated youth hanged herself on the beam in front of the old widower's house."

Wang Xin's eyes were red. The four girls who came with her at that time were all from wealthy families. They were thinking about supporting the countryside, but they didn't think about the evil in the village.

"Wang Xin, since it started six years ago, why didn't anyone go to the Youth League Office to complain?" Jin Ying asked the staff around him to find someone. He looked at the anxious captain of the Third Brigade in the crowd. Many villagers came to buy things, and they all wanted to step forward to stop the people.

"Complain?!" Wang Xin laughed bitterly. "The three of us left were called to the brigade headquarters. If it weren't for the male educated youth who risked their lives to protect us, we would have been harmed by the captain of the third brigade and those cadres. They teamed up with the villagers to lock us up in the educated youth camp, saying we were disobedient. They beat the male educated youth to death and made the female educated youth communal wives, bringing shame to our families."

"Wang Xin is right. Seven good-looking educated youth came to the Third Brigade, but they were all forced to commit suicide by the villagers or with rumors. Director Jin, we don't ask you to find a brigade nearby to continue working in the countryside. We just want you to stay away from these beasts. They are from every village." The educated youth from the Third Brigade said publicly.

A dozen people looked at the villagers of the third brigade with anger: "Every one of you is a beast, an executioner who helps the tyrant to commit evil. They curse you with their lives. Every family in your family will not be able to find a wife or have children. You are all stained with blood."

Jin Ying looked at the educated youth of the third brigade with red eyes and gritted teeth when she saw them. The villagers of the nearby brigade said that their own brigade was very good and there were no such people.

"We don't believe it. You have relatives in every village. Who wouldn't tell the story of the Third Brigade?" Wang Xin glared at the villagers who were talking. "Did the educated youth come here just to be abused by you?"

Tao Jing looked at the villagers. Life was difficult during those years. When some people came back to visit, the villagers would notify the female educated youth in advance and tell them not to go out.

"The villagers in the fourth brigade are all very nice. When relatives from the third brigade came to visit, they notified the female educated youth in advance to hide." Tao Jing spoke well of the villagers.
