It was a cool morning in late spring. Lu Shiyi, wearing his training uniform, stood in front of Lu Bairen's courtyard gate, waiting for the old man and Yang Dazhuang to come out together.
On the fourth day after Lu Bairen came to the farm, he could no longer contain his excitement and strongly requested to train with the team members.
"Grandpa, you three follow Zong Li. He knows the route into the mountains. I will lead the team members to training." Lu Shiyi entrusted the safety of the three old men to Zong Li.
Each of the three of them was accompanied by a guard. These men were all veterans who had experienced many battles. In the deep forest near the farm, there were secret sentries watching every dangerous place.
Let the three old men wander around in the deep forest. If they hunt in this area, they will mostly hunt small prey, and there will be no particularly dangerous wolves or wild boars.
"Ayi, you guys cleaned this up, right?" Lu Bairen stared at his grandson.
"Grandpa, we see it clearly but don't say anything. During winter hunting, the old men can only hunt within this range and don't dare let them go deeper into the mountains." Lu Shiyi explained, "The last time we went into the mountains, Old Wei happened to encounter a wild boar. If it weren't for the sniper in the distance, Old Wei might not be here."
Lu Bairen knew the tempers of the old guys. If he tried to dissuade them directly, no one would accept it. Only when danger occurred would they reflect on the severity of the situation.
"Forget it. I'll stay here with Zong Li. You should hurry up and go train." Lu Bairen looked at Wang Yuan standing behind Lu Shiyi and told Lu Shiyi not to waste time. "Isn't it a bit late to leave today?"
"Grandpa, during the busy farming season, we will always leave late, so don't worry." Lu Shiyi comforted Lu Bairen.
Lu Bairen looked at Mr. Song and Mr. Wei from afar yesterday and felt a little excited. He was worried that if he let the old men meet directly tonight, there would probably be a commotion.
"I will control my emotions, let's go!" Lu Bairen was too lazy to listen to Lu Shiyi's nagging and immediately sent him away.
After Lu Shiyi left, Lu Bairen turned around and looked at Mr. Ning and Mr. Fu.
"Old Lu, I see that Old Song and Old Wei are in better spirits than they were in the capital. Back there, they had to be lectured every day, but here they just do farm work." Old Ning was thankful that Old Song and Old Wei were sent here. Lu Shiyi was doing his best to protect the peace of the farm. "Let's hunt more game. The busy farming season is supposed to be over, and there's supposed to be a bonfire party tonight to welcome the new year."
"Old leaders, once we leave the farm, everything must be arranged by me!" Zong Li said to the three old leaders, "I have already applied for hunting rifles and pistols. Once we enter the mountains, we must not wander around."
"Yeah!" Lu Bairen and the other two thought that they were not familiar with this place yet, so they would not wander around and cause trouble for the children.
Zong Li became secretly alert. Lu Shiyi had specifically instructed the secret guards everywhere last night to guard against these three old men and prevent them from taking advantage of the chaos to enter the mountains.
After the old men left, Su Jin was making breakfast in the small kitchen. Du Ruo specifically told her that she didn't have to go over to eat breakfast and lunch with them every day. If Lu Shiyi and Su Jin were particularly busy, they would push Hanhan over at mealtime.
"Xiao Jin, are you home?" Liu Yunshan looked at the open gate and walked into the yard and called out.
"Auntie, I'm in the kitchen." Su Jin was cooking breakfast on the stove when Liu Yunshan's voice reached her ears.
Liu Yunshan walked into the kitchen and saw Hanhan drinking milk from the bottle obediently while Su Jin was mixing cold dishes.
"I won't keep you too long. Gather at the threshing ground at 9:30. The political commissar wants to hold a meeting with the families." Liu Yunshan told Su Jin, "When you returned to the capital, several family members were captured on the farm. They were corrupted while working outside and were constantly leaking information from the farm to the outside world."
Su Jin looked at Liu Yunshan in surprise. No wonder the atmosphere on the farm was a bit weird. The family members living in the front row were isolated.
"Old Wu and the political commissar discussed the arrangements and reshuffled the courtyards. Those with close ties to the corrupted families were placed in the front row, with patrols circulating daily." Liu Yunshan hinted to Su Jin that these families were no longer trustworthy. "There were two incidents on the farm, and each time, these families were investigated first."
Su Jin had an idea in her mind. Last time she gave a lot of things to the families she was close to, but those families didn't have any of them.
"Aunt, I will stay away from those people." Lu Shiyi led Lu Bairen over. Su Jin was more strict with herself, fearing that the Hu family's spies would find fault with her. "The last time I gave gifts, I didn't give them to these people."
"Those families aren't sociable to begin with, and they're sometimes even gossipy," Liu Yunshan complained. "Half of the blame for the mess on the farm lies with these people."
"Auntie, would you please stay and have breakfast with us?" Su Jin prepared breakfast and wanted to keep Liu Yunshan.
"No need. We old couple get up early and have already had breakfast at 5:40." Liu Yunshan refused repeatedly. After notifying Su Jin, she turned around and was about to leave. "I'll quickly notify the other family members. You take Hanhan to have breakfast."
Su Jin came out of the kitchen to see Liu Yunshan out and stood in front of the yard gate for a long time.
She looked around at the houses in the same row and found that the gates of each house were open, and voices came from some houses calling their children to eat breakfast.
For the sake of the children's education, Wu Bu always arranged a truck to take the children to the school gate.
Lin Yan and Lin Lei stood in the yard reciting junior high school texts. When there were many people around, the two brothers recited the Little Red Book.
"Aunt Lu, you're finally back!" Lin Lei saw Su Jin and greeted him happily, "I heard Uncle Lu was back a few days ago. I haven't seen you and Hanhan since then."
"While you were memorizing your lessons, I was cleaning the house. We left at different times, so you definitely didn't see me." Su Jin smiled and soothed them. "Have you been studying hard recently? I asked Sister Yunfeng, and she's prepared something delicious for you, just as I asked."
Lin Lei's eyes were sparkling, looking forward to the surprise that Su Jin would give him.
"Aunt, you don't have to prepare delicious food for us. You should make some more biscuits for Hanhan to chew on." Lin Yan glanced at his brother and hurriedly told Su Jin to stop working.
"This is the agreement between the three of us. It cannot be broken even after Hanhan is born." Su Jin comforted Lin Yan, "You two brothers come over for lunch later. I will tell your mother."
Seeing that they couldn't refuse, Lin Yan and Lin Lei could only follow Su Jin's arrangements.
"Okay, you guys go back and read first, I'll go take care of Hanhan!" Su Jin said goodbye to the two brothers and turned back to the kitchen.
Lin Yan glared at his brother: "Next time Aunt Lu talks about Qingchi, you must refuse. Hanhan is getting older now, and the situation outside is tense. No one's food is blown away by the wind."
"Brother, if you reject Aunt Lu, you will be blamed in the end. I don't want that!" Lin Lei refused.
Lin Lei had previously followed Lin Yan's advice and rejected Su Jin, but Su Jin kept nagging him for several days.
