As soon as he finished speaking, there was a hurried knock on the door. Lu Shiyi immediately let go of Su Jin and went to open the door.
Cao Jiang and his wife were standing in front of the door. Lu Shiyi looked behind them and saw many family members following them from a distance, wanting to see the Lu family's attitude towards the Cao family.
"Wife, please come out for a moment!" Lu Shiyi was not going to let Cao Jiang and his wife into the yard. "I'm not familiar with you, so there's no need to come to visit."
"Lu Tuan, I'm here to apologize to Madam Lu," Cao Jiang's wife pleaded. "Mother-in-law is old, and she lost her temper."
"Let's not talk about my wife. My grandmother is even older. How does Old Madam Cao treat her?" Lu Shiyi sneered. He used to spend less time at home, which made the Cao family even more arrogant. "They come to bother me every once in a while, and I refuse them, but they just turn a deaf ear to me?"
Cao Jiang was stunned. Cao Xiu had not told him about this, but Mrs. Cao knew it clearly and spoke in an even more humble manner.
"It's from the Lu group. Mother-in-law just wanted to talk to someone," Mrs. Cao explained. "She has a direct temper. Aunt Lu didn't refuse directly, so Mother-in-law might not have understood what Aunt Lu meant."
Su Jin walked out of the house and sneered after listening to Mrs. Cao's forced explanation.
"If we exchanged situations, does Mrs. Cao think this explanation is reasonable?" Su Jin quickly walked to Lu Shiyi's right and stood. "Are Minister Cao and Mrs. Cao here about this afternoon's event?"
"Yes, sister-in-law, you were a teacher and you are the younger generation. My mother is an illiterate old woman. Please forgive her this time. I will definitely teach her well when I go back." Cao Jiang pointed his finger at Su Jin.
Lu Shiyi wanted to answer for Su Jin, but Su Jin pinched his right hand, stopping him from speaking.
"Mrs. Cao often harasses Grandma, preventing her from getting a good rest," Su Jin said, not discussing her own affairs. She only talked about Du Ruo's situation. "I didn't touch Mrs. Cao this afternoon, but I just rubbed her bag. Hanhan is not even a year old yet, and she started yelling loudly from very close by."
The more Cao Jiang listened, the gloomier his expression became. No matter what Cao Xiu did, he ignored her. As Su Jin said, if the situation was reversed, if the other party came directly to his door, he would fight them off directly.
"Mrs. Lu, what my mother did was wrong. Is Hanhan okay?" Cao Jiang knew Lu Shiyi's status and Su Jin's job.
The two are husband and wife, helping each other and having a brighter future.
"You don't have to apologize to me. The truth of the matter is in everyone's eyes." Su Jin rejected Cao Jiang's overtures. "Let Mrs. Cao apologize to grandma. As long as grandma forgives her, that's all that's left."
Lu Shiyi stood firmly beside Su Jin and did not interfere with Su Jin's decision.
"Tuan Lu, what do you think?" Cao Jiang hoped that Lu Shiyi could help him.
"Xiao Jin makes the decisions about family matters. I support Xiao Jin's opinion." Lu Shiyi spread his hands. "The men in the Lu family all listen to their wives' arrangements."
Cao Jiang sighed helplessly: "My mother has a bad temper. It's impossible to ask her to apologize."
"Then there's nothing to talk about. Since we can't reach an agreement, wouldn't it be better for us to live in peace in the courtyard?" Lu Shiyi made another suggestion.
Cao Jiang looked at Lu Shiyi for a long time and regretted why he let Cao Xiu socialize. Most of the people she gathered around her were flatterers.
Ever since Cao Jiang took this position, Cao Xiu became complacent, thinking that everyone who wanted to enter the family compound had to be reviewed by him, and Cao Xiu privately inquired about the news a lot.
"Tuan Lu, I'll go back and deal with things first, and then apologize to Aunt Lu later." After hearing what Su Jin said, Cao Jiang realized that there were still many inside stories that he didn't understand.
Lu Shiyi just nodded, and after Cao Jiang and his wife left, he closed the door.
When Cao Jiang and his wife were walking home, many of the family members who were watching the fun left one after another. Cao Jiang realized that everyone's attitude towards him was not right.
On the way back, Cao Jiang lowered his head and pondered, thinking about Lu Shiyi's words.
"Wife, has mother offended many people in the yard?" Cao Jiang asked his wife in a low voice.
"Not only did she offend people, but she even spread gossip behind people's backs. Most of the charges that led to the downfall of several families were fabricated by my mother." Mrs. Cao had long thought about sending Cao Xiu back to the village.
Cao Jiang became alert. If he didn't take action to deal with Cao Xiu, everyone in the courtyard would probably distance themselves from him.
"Go home and send Mom back to the village." Cao Jiang made up his mind. "If Mom stays here any longer, I guess there's really no hope for me."
Mrs. Cao finally felt relieved. She had reminded Cao Jiang several times at home, but Cao Jiang refused every time.
Now, Cao Jiang has finally made up her mind. She keeps all the children by her side. Her son has been bewitched by Cao Xiu, and Mrs. Cao's beatings have made her son alienated from Cao Xiu.
On the other side, Su Jin was sitting at the dining table with Lu Shiyi to eat. Hanhan was sitting on a high chair to her right. His body was still a little weak, but he could nestle in the cushions and stare at the delicious food on the table with his eyes wide open.
"Our Hanhan is almost starving!" Lu Shiyi ate the roujiamo, cold noodles, and hot and sour noodles that Su Jin brought out, and laughed at his son. "This tastes really good. When grandpa and the others get over, we won't be able to cook for them anymore."
Lu Shiyi inherited Lu Bairen's foodie nature, and Su Jin is an excellent cook, so everything she cooks tastes delicious.
"Ayi, I can do all of this!" Su Jin comforted Lu Shiyi, "Does Cao Jiang take his mother's surname?"
Su Jin's gossipy look made Lu Shiyi laugh.
"Cao Jiang's parents are from the same village. Everyone in that village has the surname Cao. His parents just held a wedding banquet in the village and didn't get a marriage certificate." To satisfy Su Jin's curiosity, Lu Shiyi told her Cao Jiang's detailed information. "After Mrs. Cao married Cao Jiang, she kept trying to persuade him not to spoil Cao Xiu. I heard that a few years ago, Cao Xiu almost led her grandson astray."
