After the two finished eating hot pot, Lu Shiyi saw that it was still early, so he packed the package to be mailed, and Su Jin stuffed a lot of medicinal herbs into it.
"The ginseng was all picked in the mountains. I specially prepared it, as well as tiger bone wine. Ayi, please ask someone to take it back." Su Jin pointed to the jar of tiger bone wine in the corner of the dining room and said, "Hanhan is still young this year, we definitely can't go back. If Captain Liu returns to the capital, it's worth asking him to help take it back."
"I have to send a jar to wherever Mr. Liu is." Lu Shiyi knew that tiger bones were becoming increasingly difficult to obtain. It must have taken a lot of effort for Su Jin to be able to get tiger bones.
"Grandpa and Dad will be upset, right? I gave Old Liu a small jar of tiger bone wine last time, and Grandpa kept nagging about it." Su Jin said helplessly, "Grandpa was obviously going to give it to me eventually, so why was he still nagging me?"
"This is just a fun thing for the old men. The military hospital might hand over your plaster recipe. Several doctors have learned how to make plasters from you, but none of them can match your excellent medicinal properties." Lu Shiyi told Su Jin about the plaster while clearing the dishes. "They'll probably come looking for you when spring comes."
As night fell, Lu Shiyi rode his bike back home. The weather outside was getting colder. He took off his coat and warmed himself by the heater, not wanting to get close to the mother and son.
"Wife, I've moved everything in the kitchen here. Don't go there tomorrow." Lu Shiyi reminded Su Jin, "Just tell me if you need to take anything."
Su Jin looked at the frozen pears in the porcelain bowl on the heater, waiting for them to melt so that she could eat two more.
"Ayi, I heard from the stall owner selling frozen pears that they are delicious when melted." The stall owner kept introducing them to Su Jin while she was buying frozen pears.
"You can't eat too much. Before it snows, I'll go take the frozen pears to Aunt and Old Lin's house." Lu Shiyi looked at Su Jin and said, "Eat some fruit from it, but eat less frozen pears."
Su Jin nodded obediently: "Ayi, go quickly so we can stay at home and read."
Lu Shiyi put on his military coat and walked outside with the porcelain basin in his hand. Su Jin went to the small kitchen to marinate the venison, preparing to eat grilled venison tomorrow night.
Ever since Su Jin came here, he has been thinking about eating roasted venison when it snows one day.
"Hehe, I can finally see what's going on inside the Red Mansion." Su Jin was cutting venison while beef was stewing on the stove.
During the winter break, most people only eat two meals a day, skipping one meal in the morning or evening, but Lu Shiyi insisted that Su Jin eat three meals a day.
Lu Shiyi brought back the frozen pears and walked into the house to find Su Jin tangling a ball of wool.
"Wife, my aunt and sister-in-law both told you to eat less frozen pears." Lu Shiyi put his hands around the yarn loops, and the two of them started to wrap the yarn ball together. "Want to knit it for Hanhan?"
"This is a father-son sweater knitted for you and Hanhan, just in time to wear it during the Spring Festival." Su Jin smiled. Many village women were busy making clothes at home.
Lu Shiyi looked at Su Jin under the light. When he came back, snowflakes began to fall from the sky. It might snow for several days in a row.
The team members have also made preparations for the snow disaster. The canteen has prepared sufficient winter food and winter storage vegetables, and the staff will deliver three meals to their rooms.
"I called grandpa and dad at the post office and asked them to send it back." Lu Shiyi handed her a cup of warm water.
While the two were talking, Hanhan woke up and started crying. Lu Shiyi walked over, picked up his son, and fed him with a bottle in his hand.
"Ayi, let me feed him." Su Jin saw that her son was not picky about food and was happy as long as he had milk to drink.
Lu Shiyi stepped aside and said, "We agreed before that we would only feed Hanhan for three months and take good care of him."
Three months after Hanhan arrives, it will be time for spring plowing, and the situation on the farm will change again. Liu Yunshan, Yunfeng and Su Jin will lead their families to do the spring plowing.
The wasteland on the farm was distributed in a planned manner to the families of each team member, such as private plots in the family compound, specifically so that they could have a place to farm.
"Ayi, I can stay with Hanhan and go to the fields." Su Jin reached out and patted him. I am an educated youth who went to the countryside. Although I don't work in the village, I have to go to the fields often. My family members are watching me.
Many military wives were watching Su Jin's actions. In the family compound, Su Jin was a newcomer and Lu Shiyi's wife. They once wanted to introduce the girls in their family to Lu Shiyi, but Lu Shiyi always had a cold face and the family members did not dare to go up and cause trouble.
Since Su Jin entered the family compound, except for a few military wives, the rest of the sisters-in-law gave up their thoughts because they didn't want to ruin the reputation of the girls in the family.
After spending a long time together, many sisters-in-law gradually became familiar with Su Jin. She was not shy and would share some good cooking methods with everyone, which improved the quality of food in every household.
Even the team members were grateful to Lu Shiyi and became more united during training.
At midnight, except for the personnel on duty, everyone else fell asleep. A few gunshots from the back mountain woke up the team members on the edge. A team of seven quickly got up and rushed to the place where the gunshots were heard with their equipment.
Gunshots were also heard from the Fourth Battalion at the foot of the mountain. Lu Xin realized that something was wrong in the village, so he put on a thick cotton coat, held a flashlight in his right hand, and went into the mountain from the back door of his house.
"You all stay at home and guard the door. Don't let anyone in or peek around. The situation is probably serious. I heard noises in the mountains." Lu Xin was a man with good eyesight. Lu Shiyi led the team members to guard the mountain, so they were safe.
On the farm, Lu Shiyi was awakened by Zong Li. He woke up Su Jin and asked her to lock the door of the room and not to go out. He went out wearing a training uniform and military coat.
Su Jin was curious about what happened on the farm, as it was not quiet even in the middle of the night.
