"Are you the educated youth from the Fourth Brigade?" Hu Daya took a few quick steps and blocked the way of the four people. Su Jin looked at the woman in front of him who looked very much like Hu Erya.
The woman was about 30 years old, wearing slightly new clothes, and her face was full of fatigue. She pursed her lips awkwardly.
Su Jin nodded at the other person: "Who are you? Do you know us?"
Wang Dahong looked at Hu Daya and immediately remembered that Hu Daya would send food back to her parents' home every month.
"Which daughter of the Hu family are you?" Zhang Ying asked from the side, "Why are you stopping us here?"
"I'm Hu Daya. Please put in a few good words for my sister." Under the guidance of her in-laws, Hu Daya would not return to her parents' home except to deliver food as agreed before the marriage. "Er Ya will soon be married off to a village in the mountains."
"Impossible," Su Jin refused. "When the Hu family was plotting against Du Zhiqing, they should have considered our current situation. Du Zhiqing only asked for a divorce."
Hu Daya pleaded in front of everyone, hoping to use other people's sympathy to pressure Su Jin to say good things, but who would have thought that Su Jin would say it directly.
Many people around looked at Hu Daya in surprise when they heard that the Hu family had plotted against the educated youth. Many of them had household registration in the county town, and many families had children in rural areas in the suburbs. They were all educated youth, and no family wanted their children to be plotted against.
"I heard the Fourth Brigade plotted against the educated youth," someone nearby said, adding that someone's family worked at the Pigeon Committee. The county town was small, so if something happened in the brigades, the county would know about it the next day. "To accuse them of something now is really shameless."
"I was just... my mother ordered me to say it. I was just delivering a message." Hu Daya felt uncomfortable with the people around her, so she ran away after leaving only these words.
Su Jin didn't say anything more. The four of them entered the supply and marketing cooperative. Hu Daya carried the bamboo basket and went home dejectedly.
The four of them didn't take the matter to heart and continued shopping.
Hu Daya returned to her husband's home. Her mother-in-law glared at her when she saw how hurried she was.
"What happened again? Did you see your family in the county town?" The mother-in-law was peeling oranges for Hu Daya's husband. Wang Quan was in poor health and had a job writing articles in a newspaper.
Hu Daya felt uneasy when her mother-in-law stared at her, so she told her mother-in-law about her parents' request for mercy.
"You said that in public?" Hu Daya's mother-in-law, Aunt Wang, said angrily.
Hu Daya nodded helplessly: "I only said one thing to his face, and the educated youth refused, so I ignored it."
Aunt Wang sighed, "From now on, just send food back. Don't go there at other times, or you'll be plotted against by your family again."
Hu Daya nodded and went to the kitchen to make lunch. Aunt Wang looked at her son helplessly.
"You married a wife like this because you were in poor health. If you can't figure it out, what are you going to do in the future?" Aunt Wang, who is at home taking care of her son and grandson Xiaobao, said. Her husband is the deputy director of the supply and marketing cooperative. "Your father will tell you again when he comes back."
"Mom, Xiaobao also needs to come back for lunch. You always talk about Daya. In Xiaobao's eyes, Daya has lost her motherly dignity." Wang Quan still has some friendship for Hu Daya.
The couple had been together for many years. Hu Daya had just been bullied in her parents' home since she was a child. With the guidance of her parents-in-law and Wang Quan's repeated persuasion, Hu Daya's mind gradually became clear.
"It's mother's fault," Aunt Wang said with a wry smile. If her son had been in better health, she wouldn't have let Hu Daya marry him. "Xiaobao, it's up to you. You're getting smarter."
Since he was born, Xiaobao has never been to the Hu family once. His parents always say that the Hu family is a den of jackals, so Xiaobao is not close to his outsiders.
Near noon, Wang Zheng rode his bike home with his grandson, anger in his eyes.
"Daughter-in-law, let your nephew deliver food to the Hu family, and let your daughter-in-law stay at home to take care of Xiaoquan." Wang Zheng asked his grandson to find Hu Daya, and told Aunt Wang directly after entering the living room.
Aunt Wang agreed, "I've already told Daya, there's no need to go back."
After lunch, Hu Daya helped Wang Quan back to the room. She stood in the room nervously. Wang Quan would teach Hu Daya to read and write every day so that Hu Daya could discern the truth.
"Daya, I told you that the Hu family plotted against the educated youth. When the educated youth fight back, the Hu family will fall into the mud." Wang Quan remembered the day when Hu Daya came home with lifeless eyes.
After Wang Quan inquired, he realized that the Hu family had plotted against the educated youth who came to the village.
Many children from families in the county town were sent to the countryside in various brigades. The villagers plotted against the educated youth, which made the people in the county town even more afraid.
"I was wrong!" Hu Daya knew Wang Quan was trying to criticize her. "I just wanted to say something to my family. Mom...has been sending messages to me. Now that I know this, Mom won't come to our house to make trouble anymore."
Hu Daya won't say much when she returns to the Hu family. She will come back after leaving the food.
Hu Xiaodi's series of plots made Hu Daya come back and hug Wang Quan and cry.
Hu Erya plotted against the educated youth and set an example for them in the county, ruining Hu Xiaodi's marriage. Even though Hu Erya took all the responsibility, the improper education of her parents and the reputation of Hu Xiaodi as the culprit were ruined.
In the Fourth Brigade, the Hu family's reputation was completely ruined. Hu's mother asked matchmakers from all over the place, hoping to find a good wife for Hu Xiaodi.
Matchmakers in nearby villages would not make promises easily anymore. No family wanted their daughter to marry into the Hu family, even those who sold their daughters, for fear that their daughters would marry into the Hu family and bring many years of benefits to her parents' family.
"Matchmaker Yang, I've already given you 10 yuan. Why don't you introduce a blind date to my younger brother?" Mother Hu stopped the matchmaker again and asked her to give an explanation.
"Who dares to introduce a wife to your son? We are not stupid. Even the people who sell their daughters don't want to get involved in your family's affairs. Those who sell their daughters want to reap the benefits for many years." The matchmaker warned Hu's mother.
