"Grandpa, you guys should try some of my fried yellow croaker. It's really oily," Su Jin said, carrying a porcelain bowl of freshly fried yellow croaker into the room. "Grandpa and the elders, eat less. We'll have lunch soon."
"Is this New Year's goods?" The old man smelled the fragrance and hurriedly took two steps forward.
"Elder, this is the small yellow croaker sent by Ayi's comrade-in-arms. He told him that it tastes better when fried." Su Jin put the small yellow croaker on the table.
Hanhan walked over from the side and reached out to Su Jin for a hug.
"Hanhan, let's have fish porridge today." Su Jin pinched his nose and said, "You can't eat this."
Hanhan is a foodie. He will eat anything that is delicious.
After Lu Shiyi dealt with the roe deer, he walked in from outside and just happened to hear the conversation between the mother and son.
"Have you prepared the small yellow croaker?" Lu Shiyi washed his hands in the kitchen, and came in to eat a small yellow croaker. "Grandma, come out and eat the fish quickly."
"Your grandma and Grandma Ou are talking and will come out soon." Lu Bairen informed Lu Shiyi of the situation.
The grandfather and grandson gathered around the table, and the old man stared at the small yellow croaker in the porcelain basin with sparkling eyes.
When he smelled the smell of fried fish, he was as if he was back in his childhood. After the elders in his family caught the fish, the family members would go back to clean up the fried fish.
"This tastes good. Sprinkle some barbecue seasoning on it and it will be even more fragrant." Lu Bairen thought for a while, then turned to look at Lu Shiyi, "Go get the barbecue seasoning, I'll sprinkle some on it and eat it."
After seeing his old friend off, Du Ruo returned to the living room and saw the three of them sitting on small stools eating. Hanhan was standing beside them with red eyes and a slightly pouty mouth.
Hanhan saw Du Ruo come in and pointed at the grandfather and grandson in dissatisfaction.
"No...eat!" Hanhan stomped his feet angrily.
"You two are so busy eating that you don't know how to put Hanhan to sleep first?" Du Ruo glared at them, "Hanhan, we can't eat this. Grandma will get you some porridge."
After Su Jin finished frying the fish, she asked Aunt Yang to take the pot of fried fish back.
Uncle Yang and Aunt Yang rarely dine with them. Lu Bairen and Du Ruo told the young couple that if Uncle Yang and Aunt Yang didn't want to come, they shouldn't be too harsh on them.
"Grandma, we're having braised hairtail fish, mixed stew, and leek and egg today." Su Jin looked at the people in the room and said, "In addition, I made multi-grain rice and multi-grain steamed buns as staple food."
Lu Bairen and the elder's eyes lit up. Su Jin cooked for them personally today, and they were in for a treat.
"After these few days of busy work, I can make medicinal food for grandpa, the elders, and grandma again!" Su Jin paused for a moment after looking at Lu Bairen and the elders' hands, "Grandpa, elders, you must finish your meal. I see that you won't have so many excuses not to eat."
Lu Shiyi stood behind his wife, looking at Lu Bairen and the elders with sour faces, and he laughed in a mean way.
"Xiao Jin, grandpa and the elders have been criticized by the doctors a lot recently. Doctor Wang even reported it to grandma," Lu Shiyi whispered to Su Jin, leaning slightly towards her.
"Ayi, help me get some red dates from the top shelf of the kitchen and soak them. I'll make red date and white fungus soup in the evening. Everyone can have some." Su Jin looked at the two old men with sparkling eyes, looking at her with a happy face.
"Xiao Jin, make some more and send some to your Grandpa Song and Grandpa Wei, two old men. They also need to eat some to replenish their bodies." Lu Bairen understood the physical conditions of his old comrades. If Su Jin made medicinal food suitable for them, Lu Bairen would ask her to make some and send it to them.
Lu Shiyi smiled. Mr. Song and Mr. Wei also didn't like sweet food. Even if there was no sugar in it, they would refuse it.
"Old Song and Old Wei don't like to drink sweet drinks. Send them over and arrange for someone to keep an eye on them. Make sure they don't give the drinks to the staff around them after you leave." Lu Bairen cut off their escape route. "Ayi, you have to keep a close eye on them. You can't just focus on the two of us and not say which two."
Lu Shiyi sighed. No wonder the staff at the retirement home had a headache. These old men were too difficult to manage.
"Okay! I'll let Zong Li keep an eye on them. If you don't drink, Zong Li will keep an eye on you two." Lu Shiyi assured the two.
After receiving his assurance, the two old men began to eat peacefully.
After lunch, the children on the farm ran out of their homes. Some families had prepared firecrackers in advance. The children took one or two firecrackers and set them off in the threshing ground.
Because of the Gong family's situation, many team members reduced the amount of money they gave to their elders at home, so the family members had more money in their hands.
For the first time during the Spring Festival, the families bought firecrackers for the children, hoping that they could have a happy Spring Festival.
"Wife, I will also ask Wang Yuan to bring back some firecrackers and fireworks, and we will take Hanhan to watch the fireworks during the Spring Festival." Lu Shiyi hopes that Hanhan will not be affected by the outside world and have a Spring Festival with the flavor of the New Year.
Hanhan was too young last year. He just drank milk and slept every day and didn’t care about the Chinese New Year. This year, he is curious about everything.
Su Jin held a bowl of apple puree in her hand and placed it on the small coffee table. Hanhan walked over happily. Su Jin placed the bowl of porridge on the small table. He sat in the walker and ate it spoonfully.
Lu Bairen and the elder were eating small yellow croaker. They looked at each other and thought it would be better if they could have a drink of wine.
Su Jin glanced at Lu Shiyi, who walked out of the small kitchen, holding a large bowl with two wine cups in his left hand and two wine glasses in his right hand.
Lu Shiyi placed two wine glasses in front of the old men and put down the bowl.
"Today we are here to try out the New Year's goods. This batch of wine was brewed by Xiao Jin specifically for the New Year. Grandpa and the elders will be the first to taste the wine." Lu Shiyi said to the two old men.
Su Jin watched Hanhan finish the fruit puree and saw that Grandpa and the elders were in a good mood.
