Chapter 8: The Killer

Song Huaizhi is usually warm and enthusiastic towards others, but when facing the girls in the troupe, she hardly smiles and is quite serious.

People seemed to have a sense of fear towards their leaders. When eating in the cafeteria, no one would take the initiative to approach Song Huaizhi, except for the political commissar and others.

Song Huaiwen looked up when he heard this, but did not open his mouth and continued to eat. However, Song Huaizhi quickly reacted, "Sit down! There's no one there."

Xu Ruyan sat down with a smile, not seeming to mind Song Huaiwen's indifference. She ate her meal quietly, then said shyly, "Teacher Song, I actually have a few questions about dance that I want to ask you. Don't I have to go for the retest tomorrow? There are a few movements that I just can't do well."

What kind of people leaders like is people who are ambitious.

When Song Huaizhi heard the questions about dance, she immediately opened up and talked nonstop. Even when Song Huaiwen finished eating and left, she nodded and continued to discuss professional issues with Xu Ruyan.

"Xu Ruyan is so shameless. She even dares to get ahead of others like this. Normally, I've never seen her be so enthusiastic towards Song Tuan." Li Zhen looked down upon Xu Ruyan's fawning attitude and made sarcastic remarks.

When Liu Huixin saw the tall man, her heart started beating wildly, but unfortunately she had the desire but not the courage, so she could only be angry and join in the weird behavior.

People are selfish, they will fight for whatever they want. Just based on this point, Shen Nanqing admires Xu Ruyan a little, and she is also quite smart.

Everyone knew that she went for Song Huaiwen, but she didn't deliberately strike up a conversation with him. Moreover, through the conversation with Song Huaizhi, she let Song Huaiwen know that such a person existed, and she also established an image of being diligent and studious for herself, which was far better than most people present.

Of course, appreciation does not mean liking. As the saying goes, it is easy to change the country but difficult to change one's nature. Xu Ruyan's wisdom has never been used in the journey, and it is often used to harm others and benefit herself.

Xu Ruyan's behavior in the cafeteria did not cause much splash, because everyone was more interested in knowing the final result of the art performance selection.

The venue for the re-examination is a large theater, a real stage.

There was a row of judges sitting in the audience. The military rank system had been abolished five years ago, and everyone wore the same Type 65 military uniform. Their specific ranks could not be seen, but from their four pockets on their shoulders one could tell they were all cadres.

There was a lot of noise backstage, with excitement and anxiety in the air. Although it was not a formal performance, in order to leave a good impression on the judges, some people were putting on makeup, while others were exercising and stretching.

Xu Ruyan looked around inconspicuously, feeling a little nervous. She knew that there were always people better than you and there were always mountains better than you.

When she caught a glimpse of Li Zhen pacing back and forth in a state of panic, and Su Xiangqin curling up with her arms around her knees, her restlessness gradually subsided, and self-confidence began to spread.

As time goes by, it will be the turn of their Yandu Military Region.

Liu An was quite a gentleman. He took the lead and performed quite well.

Next it was Su Xiangqin's turn. She took out a sheet of music and handed it to the conductor. The conductor was obviously unhappy and felt that his expertise was being questioned.

He is already an experienced conductor. No matter what is popular now or what was popular in the past, he knows them all by heart and can recite them by heart. There is no need for him to conduct the music score.

He frowned slightly, but did not refuse out of self-restraint. He lowered his head and glanced at the songs on it, and found that they were a little unfamiliar. After a closer look, he was trembling with excitement. Fortunately, he quickly calmed down and did not want to talk at the moment. He had to finish the song first.

The stage lit up, and Su Xiangqin stood alone under a pale light, her body trembling slightly, as if bent by the weight of heavy memories.

The music suddenly started, like crying and complaining, and she immediately began to dance, stumbling with small steps, as if she was struggling forward on a thorny historical path, her hands grasping helplessly in the air, as if she was touching the scars of Jinling City's past.

As she spun, her hair flew wildly. Every time she paused, her eyes were filled with pain and struggle. Sometimes she hugged her arms tightly, as if to warm herself in the darkness, and sometimes she stretched her body hard, as if to break free and scream to the whole world about that unforgettable history.

When the dance ended, the whole audience was silent for a moment, and then suddenly broke into thunderous applause. The judges and the leaders of each unit all stood up and applauded to pay tribute to this heavy history and the actors.

Xu Ruyan was startled by the applause from the front desk. She had no idea what happened, but she knew that the applause was louder than any of the previous ones.

She curiously slipped behind the curtain and observed the judges from the side. They all gave high praise. Someone even asked about the choreography and music of the ballet. Su Xiangqin only said that the lead dancer of their troupe wrote and composed it herself.

Seeing that she seemed to be still in a state of emotion, the judges did not ask any more questions. They all took note of it in their hearts and looked at the information sheet. There were two people from the Yandu Military Region below, so they thought it must be one of them.

"What do you mean by writing and composing your own music?" Xu Ruyan had a bad feeling in her heart. She hurriedly grabbed Su Xiangqin's hand and asked anxiously.

Su Xiangqin's eyes were red, and she was at a loss when facing Xu Ruyan's questioning. Li Zhen stepped forward and pushed Xu Ruyan away, angrily saying, "Are you sick? Can't you see that she hasn't recovered yet?"

Time waits for no one, and it will be her turn next. She doesn’t have time to chat with Xu Ruyan.

Li Zhen first arranged Su Xiangqin to sit down, and then took out his own music score from his army green backpack.

This scene was noticed by Xu Ruyan.

With the previous experience as a lesson, the conductor took the music score very readily this time, with his mouth grinning from ear to ear. It was not a wasted trip as he unexpectedly got to learn two new pieces of music.

Li Zhen's dancing style is completely different from Su Xiangqin's, and her music is obviously much more cheerful.

She is lithe, like a nimble lark flying over the wilderness, her steps are sometimes brisk as if treading the waves, sometimes steady as if taking root, her arms waving softly like poplar branches swaying in the wind, her waist twisting, showing her life's flexibility.

As the tempo of the music quickened, she spun rapidly with her skirt fluttering, as if she was fighting tenaciously against the harsh environment. Every pause captured the poplar's tenacious posture. With her passionate dance, she spoke of the children of the wilderness' indomitable spirit of taking root in the land.

The applause rang out again, and everyone's eyes were filled with amazement. This time, when they asked about the arrangement of the ballet, they got the same answer again.

Deputy Head of the General Political Department, Zhong, was very excited. A few days ago, the director of the Creative Studio came to him to complain that the arrangement of the program for the art performance had encountered a bottleneck and he was worrying about it. Unexpectedly, he had an unexpected gain.

Now there is only one actor left in the Yandu Military Region. I think Xu Ruyan is the main dancer among them. Usually the last one is the finale, so there must be some surprises.

Deputy Captain Zhong was full of expectations, but he was indeed surprised by the result.
