Xu Qingning greeted them and went back inside.
She had no interest in listening to their conversation, especially that Wu Huihui; she didn't even want to look at her.
Yang Yuelan sat on the kang (a heated brick bed) with Yang Yuexiang and Wu Huihui, talking. Yang Yuexiang said that she had consulted a fortune teller to tell Zhao Jingyu's fortune these days. The fortune teller said that he would definitely come back and also told her to burn a lot of paper money for various gods.
“My mother burns paper money at home all day long, hoping that all the gods will bless my brother to come back soon,” Wu Huihui also testified.
"I'm so sorry to have troubled you all with Jingyu's matter." Yang Yuelan was also touched. "I hadn't even thought about these things..."
“We’re all family, so it’s the same if I think of things for you.” Yang Yuexiang felt very accomplished and said proudly, “It seems that the fortune teller is very effective. If anything happens in the future, we’ll go to that fortune teller again.”
Then she whispered to Yang Yuelan, "I've met Jingyu's cousin before. How old is he? Does he have a girlfriend?"
“He’s two years older than my Leilei, he’s twenty-eight.” Yang Yuelan understood. “I haven’t heard that he has a girlfriend.”
"Oh dear, she's not young anymore." Yang Yuexiang did some quick calculations on her fingers, then looked at Wu Huihui. "She's six years older than my Huihui!"
"Mom, what are you saying?" Wu Huihui blushed. "He's a few years older than me, what does that have to do with me?"
They didn't come with Zhao Jingwen and Yang Zhibin; they met at the entrance of the alley.
No wonder Yang Yuexiang kept asking Yang Zhibin questions as soon as she saw him; it turns out she had this on her mind.
"Actually, six years old is still okay..." Yang Yuexiang thought to herself. She knew that Yang Zhibin worked in a machinery factory, which was definitely a good company in Jiaodong City.
Thinking of this, she asked Yang Yuelan, "What are his parents doing now?"
“Zhibin’s father works on the railway and doesn’t come home often. His mother stays at home like me and doesn’t work.” Yang Yuelan always thought her sister-in-law’s family was very good.
"Mom, please don't ask anymore." Wu Huihui looked up shyly.
“There’s nothing we can’t ask. We know the truth about her, so we can rest assured.” Wu Huihui’s marriage has always been a worry for Yang Yuexiang. She won’t let go of any suitable opportunities.
She and Yang Yuelan had originally planned to marry Wu Huihui to Zhao Jingyu.
But Zhao Jingyu was already married, so she could only look for a new partner for her daughter.
Zhao Jingyu brewed some tea and chatted with Zhao Jingwen and Yang Zhibin in the living room. One was his older brother, and the other was his cousin. In fact, Zhao Jingyu wasn't very familiar with them.
The topics of conversation between men are nothing more than work, and if they talk about it in more depth, it's about their recent situations.
Although Zhao Jingyu said he didn't want to go to sea anymore, he was currently on leave at home and hadn't resigned yet. Plus, his wife was about to give birth, and the Lunar New Year was approaching, so he wasn't in a hurry to find a job.
Zhao Jingwen had just settled into a stable job and was planning to bring his wife and children over as soon as possible so that the whole family could be together.
Job openings are so scarce right now that it's hard to find one anytime soon, so I can only keep an eye out while I'm still looking for work.
For Yang Zhibin, the job is good, but he is getting older and still doesn't have a partner. Most young people his age already have children.
"By the way, Zhibin, I remember you used to have a crush on a female classmate. You're not still thinking about her, are you?" Zhao Jingwen suddenly remembered this and asked him, "You need to hurry up and find a girlfriend, you can't just focus on work."
Yang Zhibin just smiled.
“Cousin, if you really like her, you have to take action. Maybe she’s waiting for you too!” Zhao Jingyu didn’t know about Yang Zhibin’s past. “You’re a man, you have to take the initiative. You can’t just wait for the girl to come to you.”
"That's nonsense, it's all just rumors." Yang Zhibin's face flushed red and then turned pale when he heard Zhao Jingyu say that. He had only ever liked Xu Qingning and had never been interested in any other woman.
“Where did this gossip come from?” Zhao Jingwen, who was familiar with Yang Zhibin, couldn’t help but tease him. “I heard from my aunt that you even chased him all the way to his family compound.”
"I never imagined my cousin was such a romantic." Zhao Jingyu also became interested. "Where is that girl from? Do I know her? If I do, I'll ask her for you."
"Stop talking, it's really just baseless." Yang Zhibin was too embarrassed to look up at Zhao Jingyu.
If Zhao Jingyu knew that he liked Xu Qingning, then they wouldn't need to have any contact anymore.
“It’s not just hearsay. I remember my aunt saying that the girl seems to live in the No. 3 State-owned Cotton Mill’s residential compound, or somewhere not far away.” Zhao Jingwen said to Zhao Jingyu with a smile, “I remember my third sister-in-law lives in the No. 3 State-owned Cotton Mill’s residential compound. Maybe she knows that girl. Ask her to help inquire. Maybe she’s not married yet!”
“I know the No. 3 State-owned Cotton Mill’s residential compound very well. I even went there today!” Zhao Jingyu said hurriedly when he heard it was the No. 3 State-owned Cotton Mill. “Cousin, as long as you tell me the name, I’ll definitely find out for you.”
"No, no, she, she's already married." Yang Zhibin's face turned red, and he stammered, "You, you shouldn't bring this up again."
“Once you’re married, there’s nothing you can do,” Zhao Jingyu said with some regret. “We can’t do anything like poaching someone else’s partner.”
"Hey, why are you trying to poach someone? We can just look for someone else. We can't put all our eggs in one basket," Zhao Jingwen laughed. "We'll all help out. There are plenty of good girls out there."
The three spoke softly, but the person on the kang (heated brick bed) could hear them clearly. Yang Yuexiang whispered to Yang Yuelan, "Is that really true?"
No wonder Yang Zhibin is 28 years old and still not married.
So it turns out she had someone in her heart.
"I don't know," Yang Yuelan shook her head. "I've never heard of it."
"Mom, you don't even know about this kind of thing, yet you dare to say you know everything about her?" Wu Huihui sneered. "She's already married, and he's still thinking about her. I don't want a man like that."
“He didn’t say he was thinking about it!” Yang Yuexiang felt that this was not a big deal. It’s normal to have a crush on someone before getting married.
"If he wasn't interested, how would he know that the girl is married?" Wu Huihui knew that her mother had her eye on Yang Zhibin's job, and said disdainfully, "Don't even mention this marriage. Even if he agreed, I still wouldn't agree!"
Xu Qingning heard everything clearly from inside the room. Although she felt completely at ease, it was still quite embarrassing to talk about it.
Of course, even if Zhao Jingyu finds out about this later, it's not a big deal; everyone has a past.
He himself has experienced something similar.
Wu Huihui had to go to work, so she had to leave after sitting for a while. Yang Yuelan asked Zhao Jingwen to see her off.
Zhao Jingwen lived far away and didn't plan to go back to the meat processing plant that night, so he didn't want to see her off, but he still reluctantly agreed.
Yang Zhibin noticed Zhao Jingwen's reluctance and said that it was on his way, so he would take Wu Huihui there.
Because they are relatives, Yang Zhibin and Wu Huihui had met when they were children. Although they had become estranged as adults, they still knew each other.
Yang Yuexiang was overjoyed to see Yang Zhibin offer to take Wu Huihui home, and kept praising him as a good young man.
When Zhao Jingyu returned to the room, Xu Qingning was already asleep, with her back to him, and she didn't speak to him.
"What are you thinking about?" Zhao Jingyu leaned closer and hugged her. "Are you upset that I didn't come to keep you company sooner?"
Chatting with two grown men is nowhere near as fun as spending time with your wife.
At least, we can still gain some advantage.
"It's not that bad!" Xu Qingning turned to look at him. "Don't overthink it. I was just thinking about my own things."
“Your business is my business.” Zhao Jingyu understood and said gently, “Don’t worry, I’ll go to the Traditional Chinese Medicine Hospital tomorrow and then we can discuss it further.”
He knew she didn't want to go to the People's Hospital because she didn't want to run into Tang Wenya.
He understands; if he doesn't want to go, he doesn't have to go.
Xu Qingning looked at her fingernails and remained silent.
