Chapter 22 Li Jun

This is exactly the effect Yu Tang wanted.

She walked over slowly, ignoring the eyes cast upon her, and lifted her veil in a feigned curiosity.

Then she saw a lot of stunned faces.

A bamboo-colored Taoist robe... two purses... one aqua, one lake green...

Yu Tang quickly found Li Jun, who was sitting to the west of the crowd.

He was less than twenty years old, with fair skin, handsome features, and a lively look between his brows. He was talking to someone next to him.

Feeling something strange around him, he turned around and saw Yu Tang at a glance.

Yu Tang saw him slowly open his mouth, widen his eyes, and stare at her like an idiot, his eyes full of surprise.

Is this Li Jun?

Yu Tang blinked.

In her imagination, if Li Jun knew her, he would be surprised to see her suddenly appear here. If he didn't know her, he would be very strange, or look at her once and turn away, like Master Pei San seeing her for the first time, or look at her curiously.

But now...she didn't expect Li Jun to be like this.

So that she couldn't tell whether he knew her or not.

But she couldn't return empty-handed - things had come to this point, and it would be difficult for her to find such an opportunity again. Most importantly, she was afraid that her parents would think this was a good match and secretly agree to the Li family.

Yu Tang thought about it and smiled at Li Jun.

Li Jun's face turned red immediately, but he came to his senses.

He lowered his head sheepishly, pretended to take a sip of tea, then couldn't help looking up at her, looking as if he was extremely curious about her.

Yu Tang took a few steps forward and walked to the foot of the Enlightenment Pine Tree. He looked at Li Jun and said, "Can I ask you gentlemen for directions?"

Li Jun was hesitant. The young man closest to Yu Tang stood up, his face red, and said in a panic, "Miss, you can ask me." He bowed to Yu Tang and said, "My surname is Chen, and I am from Banqiao Town, Lin'an Prefecture. I live in Chenjia Village west of Banqiao Town..."

Before he could finish his words, the scholar surnamed Chen was suddenly pushed aside by a young man beside him. Someone came up to Yu Tang and said, "Miss, don't listen to him. He is from Banqiao, how can he know as well as I do, who is from Mituo Village. Miss, what do you want to ask?"

"Hey, hey, hey! Fu Xiaowan, you're going too far." The scholar named Chen pointed at the person who was talking to Yu Tang angrily and said, "How come you don't even have to follow the first come first served principle? You are a disciple of Confucius and a follower of Mencius."

"What does this have to do with studying?" Someone came over and put his arm around the shoulder of the man named Fu Xiaowan, and said to the scholar named Chen with a smile, "Chen Yao, we help others solve their problems, and that's just doing good deeds every day. Different people have different opinions, so don't assume that others think the same way you do." Perhaps this sentence was not very polite, and the man was vague.

The person called Chen Yao is extremely popular.

Someone came to the rescue: "Alright, alright, Shen Fang, Chen Yao, Fu Xiaowan, all of you should stop talking. Look how scared you are of others."

Yu Tang took a look and saw that it was Li Jun.

Li Jun gave her a gentle smile, bowed and said, "Miss, these classmates of mine are all very nice people. They just like to joke around. I hope they didn't scare you!"

Fu Xiaowan sneered and said, "Li Jun, don't be so nagging when you're talking while standing. I don't realize how polite you are when you're like this!"

"Xiao Wan!" Shen Fang greeted Fu Xiao Wan. It was obvious that they had a very good relationship.

Fu Xiaowan said nothing more.

Yu Tang was delighted.

She did not mistake Li Jun and even started talking to him.

Yu Tang smiled and said to Li Jun: "Thank you very much, sir! I want to go to Xibiquan, but I don't know how to get there."

Li Jun quickly showed her the way: "Go forward from here, and when you see a red corner gate, turn left first..."

The boys beside him screamed and cheered behind him.

Fu Xiaowan even said sternly, "So the young lady wanted to ask Master Li for directions! No wonder she ignored us!"

But before he finished speaking, Shen Fang patted him on the shoulder and shouted, "What nonsense are you talking about?"

Fu Xiaowan giggled.

Someone said, "He is the second son of the Li family in the south of the city, named Li Jun. He likes to ride horses on the post road outside the city. Miss, please remember this. If you get lost next time, you can go there to ask for directions."

Li Jun looked very embarrassed, but he did not stop or refute the man.

Yu Tang was surprised.

Li Jun, what does this mean?

You wouldn't really mistake her for having taken a fancy to him, would you?

Yu Tang was just thinking about how to make Li Jun clear up the misunderstanding when he heard Chen Yao say in a sinister tone, "Mr. Li, you are a little unromantic. You should quickly ask which family the young lady is from, so as not to let her kindness down."

This is a bit too much.

Yu Tang frowned.

Li Jun turned around and glared at Chen Yao unhappily.

Shen Fang simply glared at Chen Yao and shouted, "If you can't speak, don't speak. No one thinks you are dumb."

Chen Yao said: "Mr. Shen is from a wealthy family and is from Hangzhou Prefecture. It is normal for him to look down on people from our poor and remote areas."

"Who are you talking about?" Fu Xiaowan stood up for Shen Fang and said to him, "Watch your mouth."

"What does it have to do with you if I say Shen Fang?"

Chen Yao and Fu Xiaowan started arguing.

Li Jun not only did not go to help, but stood in front of Yu Tang, hesitating for a long time, bowed to her, and said: "I don't know which mansion the young lady is from? Are there any maids or servants following you? There is a stone bench over there. If the young lady doesn't mind, you can go over and rest for a while. I have sent a servant to find the young lady's family to come over."

Yu Tang felt as if he had fallen into an ice cellar.

The truth came so unexpectedly.

She thought she still needed to put in some effort, but who knew that Li Jun would expose her shortcomings after just a few words.

Li Jun didn't know her at all.

I don't know who she is.

Lin lied!

But why would she lie?

Is it just to make her marry Li Jun?

What is Lin's drawing?

In her previous life, she had lost her parents and her family was in poverty. She didn't even have much money for her dowry.

Why did Lin insist that she marry Li Jun?

Is it because Lin knew that Li Jun would not live long?

Yu Tang immediately denied this conjecture.

Even if Li Jun died young, it is not impossible for the Li family to find a ghost marriage for him. Why would they go to so much trouble to plot against her?

Yu Tang couldn't figure it out.

On the second floor of the Sutra Library next door, Pei Yan, who watched the entire process, had a tightly drawn face. His expressionless face looked even more stern and murderous.

Even before winter comes, people can already feel the biting cold.

Master Huikong, the abbot of Zhaoming Temple who had just arrived, looked at his hand tightly grasping the red railing. His hand was as white as jade and as slender as bamboo, but it was holding Pei's vital point, making him afraid to move. He couldn't help but shake his head slightly in his heart and said, "What are you looking at here, benefactor?"

Pei Yan withdrew his gaze, looked at Huikong indifferently, and said nothing.

Huikong did not take it as an offense, and walked to his side, looking at the men and women under the Enlightenment Pine, and said with a smile: "If you haven't noticed, I would like to ask you to look at a scroll."

Pei Yan didn't say anything, but the faint green meridians floated on the back of his hand, and his hand seemed to be holding tighter.

Huikong pointed at Yu Tang, Li Jun and others below and said, "Look, benefactor!"

He did not expect Pei Yan to answer him, so he continued, "We stood on the second floor and looked at them. We only thought that the man was talented and the woman was beautiful, just like a perfect match. The young man seemed to be very fond of the young lady and was talking to her carefully. But in fact, the young man and the young lady did not know each other before they talked, and it was the young lady who took the initiative to talk to the young man. It can be seen how big the gap is between reality and imagination.

"My father and I are close friends, and he once told me about calling you back.

“I thought your father was right at the time.

"But who knew that your father would die from this?

"So, please express your condolences, do not replace facts with imagination, and do not punish the present with the future.

“You should focus more on the present.

"Otherwise, what's the point of Old Lady Pei calling you back?"

Pei Yan lowered his eyes.

The long eyelashes fluttered like small fans, casting a shadow on the eyelids.

Huikong looked at it, chanted a Buddhist name, and changed the subject, saying, "The donor said he wanted to borrow the Sutra Library of Zhaoming Temple. Our temple feels honored. I wonder which Sutra the donor is interested in? I often recite the Diamond Sutra. I wonder if the donor has any experience with it?"

Pei Yan suddenly opened his eyes and interrupted Hui Kong coldly: "Heart Sutra."

Huikong was unable to react for a moment: "What?"

"I'm talking about the Heart Sutra." Pei Yan's eyes were still looking at the same place, and he said, "You asked me what I like, and I said I like the Heart Sutra."

Huikong breathed a long sigh of relief.

It's good that Pei Yan is willing to talk to him.

Ever since the death of the old lady of the Pei family, Pei Yan no longer communicated with others, and the words he spoke were full of murderous intent, which not only made the people around him uncomfortable, but also spread many rumors that were unfavorable to the Pei family.

This was something that Master Huikong, who had a close personal relationship with Old Lady Pei, did not want to see.

"You have had the talent of photographic memory since you were young. The Heart Sutra, which is only a hundred words long, must have been memorized by you..." Huikong was talking to Pei Yan while thinking about the smile on his face. He couldn't help but look in the direction of his gaze and saw that the woman who was originally standing next to the Enlightenment Pine had disappeared, leaving only Li Jun, the second son of the Li Mansion, standing there alone.

The young scholar behind him was still arguing about something, but he looked confused, as if he had been abandoned.

That’s probably another story.

Huikong collected his thoughts and continued to talk about the Heart Sutra with Pei Yan, hoping to untie Pei Yan's knot in this way.

Yu Tang was taken away by Ma Xiuniang.

When Ma Xiuniang heard the group of people making a fuss, she was afraid that Yu Tang would be in trouble, so she ran over in two steps, hurriedly said to Li Jun, "Sorry, my sister and I got separated," and forcibly pulled Yu Tang away from Wudaosong.

Yu Tang took one step higher than the other and didn't catch his breath until he started climbing the mountain road leading to Xibiquan.

She wanted to rush home immediately, tell Chen about her discovery, and find out why Lin wanted her to be her daughter-in-law in both lives.

But Ma Xiuniang had finally been able to go out with Zhang Hui, so she couldn't just take care of herself and ignore others.
