There's no place like home; country folk may want to move to the city, but they don't necessarily like hearing others belittle them.
Hearing Gao Shujing praise the countryside, the smiles on the faces of these burly men became more genuine, and they worked even harder.
"That's true. Even water costs money in the city. You really can't make a living without some income."
"We have mountains and rivers in our countryside, so as long as we work hard, we won't go hungry. As for housing, as long as we have money, it doesn't matter if one person builds several rooms."
Duolu was a little upset because he didn't get any fruit candy. He rubbed his tummy and shuffled in with his short legs to find Yu Rujia. But when he smelled the aroma of fish porridge, he instantly forgot all his grievances and tears of happiness streamed down his face.
Duolu: "Auntie, I'm hungry."
Yu Rujia pulled the little dumpling over and touched his little belly, which was indeed flat: "Wait a moment, the porridge will be ready soon, our little Duolu will eat more then."
Duolu nodded his little head: "Duolu wants to eat lots and lots."
Duofu pulled Duoshou in: "Auntie, what are we having for dinner tonight?"
Yu Rujia: "Have some fish porridge, do you like it?"
I still remember the fish paste and fish soup I ate before. I remember I almost ate my tongue: "I like it. I like my aunt's fish porridge the most."
Not to be outdone, Duoshou puffed out her little chest and said sweetly, "Duoshou, I like it, I like it, Auntie."
Yu Rujia rubbed their heads and said, "Eat more if you like it, so you can grow taller."
Duoxi crawled faster and faster, and Yu Rujia had to run to catch the little guy.
Duofu took the twins out to play earlier, and Yu Rujia was too busy to take care of Duoxi. In order to prevent the little guy from crawling away and disappearing, she tied a rope around his waist.
The other end was tied to a nail on the wall, successfully restricting the little guy's movement to the mat.
The little one isn't a crybaby. When he finds he can't crawl anymore, he'll crawl somewhere else, and sometimes he'll sit and play by himself for a while.
After Duofu brought the twins in and reported to Yu Rujia, he went to see the little guy. He had successfully wrapped himself up in a cocoon. When he saw his older brothers coming over, Duoxi pouted and babbled in baby talk.
Duofu sighed inwardly; it seemed that another bear was going to be born.
Duofu stepped forward and pulled Duoxi into his arms: "Duoxi, don't move, let your older brother help you untie it."
Duo Xi obediently stayed in his eldest brother's arms, waiting to regain his freedom. However, he not only had a reliable eldest brother, but also unreliable second and third brothers.
While Duofu was searching for the way to untie the rope, Duolu and Duoshou would occasionally reach out their little hands to pull here and there, making the rope tighter.
Duofu pushed away Duolu, who was about to reach out to pull the rope again: "Duolu, be good, play with Duoshou for a while."
Duolu shook his head: "I'm playing with, with my younger brother." He indicated that he was a fair person, and that he had just played with his older brother and younger brother Duoshou for a while, and now it was his turn to play with his younger brother Duoxi.
What could Duofu do? He could only pull Duoshou, who was also eager for the rope, in front of Duolu, hoping to make them attract each other.
His strategy worked. The twins got together and started playing a game of pushing each other, giving Duofu space to untie Duoxi's ropes.
Duofu searched for a long time but couldn't find the end of the rope, so he had to give up and called out to Yu Rujia, "Auntie, I can't untie it."
Yu Rujia peeked out of the kitchen and glanced at them, understanding his meaning: "Auntie will help." She added some firewood to the stove before leaving the kitchen.
After washing her hands, Yu Rujia walked over to the children and picked up Duoxi. "Oh dear, I don't know how this child managed to twist herself like this."
This rope was left behind by her in the world of Ace. Back then, it was this kind of rope that held her, Gu Yiye, and Gao Liang together. The quality is absolutely top-notch; even an ordinary kitchen knife wouldn't be able to cut it easily.
It took Yu Rujia a lot of effort to finally untie the ropes off the little guy.
Once Duoxi was free, she threw herself into Yu Rujia's arms, her little face drooping, looking utterly wronged.
Yu Rujia picked him up and kissed his little face.
Yu Rujia: "I'm sorry, Duoxi, Auntie is a little too busy. I'll have to make do with this for a little while. I'll make it up to you with some fragrant porridge later. Please don't be angry with Auntie, okay?"
Gao Shujing walked in from outside and, seeing this scene, asked, "What's wrong with Duoxi?"
Duofu tugged at the rope beside him: "Duoxi was just tied up with this rope."
Gao Shujing tugged on the rope and found it to be surprisingly sturdy, seemingly made of a material he had never seen before. Perhaps he was just inexperienced. After his initial surprise, Gao Shujing focused his attention on Yu Rujia and Duoxi.
With kisses and hugs, Xiao Duoxi's grievances vanished, and she stretched out her little arms to snuggle into Yu Rujia's arms.
After playing with him for a minute or two, Yu Rujia put him back on the mat: "Auntie is going to make fragrant porridge now. Little Duoxi, play with your brothers for a while."
Duofu pulled Duoxi aside: "Auntie, go ahead. I'll keep an eye on Duoxi."
After having enough of the push-up game, Duolu and Duoshou came over, shouting that they wanted to play some more.
Duo Xi's attention was drawn to them, and Yu Rujia managed to slip away and return to the kitchen.
Gao Shujing followed him into the kitchen and took over the work.
Yu Rujia asked, "How many more days until your house is finished?"
Gao Shujing: "At this rate, we can put up the roof beams by tomorrow afternoon. After some tidying up, we can move in in three to five days."
The foundation took the most time. Once this part was done, the rest of the brickwork was done much faster. In just over an hour, we built a wall that was more than a meter high.
Yu Rujia: "This house was built quite quickly."
Gao Shujing: "Once I start cooking over there, you don't need to cook anymore. You and the children can all eat over there. I've set up a back door. If you don't want to come through the front door, you can leave through the back door."
Yu Rujia glanced at him and asked, "Will you cook or will I cook? Will you wash the dishes or will I wash them?" She absolutely had to make this clear; she didn't want to go over and cook for him.
Gao Shujing deftly ladled out the porridge from the pot: "Of course, I made it all."
Oh dear, I have to agree to this good thing. Yu Rujia said, "Okay, I'll bring the kids to your place for meals every day." Then we can figure out what to do and dump the other work on Gao Shujing. That's great.
After serving the porridge, Gao Shujing moved the pot aside, took another empty pot and placed it on the stove. He added water to it, which he would use to bathe the children later.
In August, the weather was so hot that people were sweating profusely. Some children, wanting to cool off, would jump directly into the river to bathe. At night, some adults would also go into the river to bathe.
The four children were too young, so just to be on the safe side, Yu Rujia still washed them with hot water.
