Chapter 22 Huang Sisters 01

With this in mind, Gao Shujing took over the daily lives of the children, and often helped with the cleaning for Yu Rujia as well, trying his best to do things himself so that Yu Rujia wouldn't have to do them.

Gao Shujing was much more diligent than Yu Rujia, providing a variety of meals every day, including meat, vegetables, soup, porridge, and white rice. Of course, some of the ingredients were taken from Yu Rujia, since she would eat with them anyway, so it was only right that she contribute something.

It wasn't that Gao Shujing asked her to provide food, but rather because Yu Rujia was a meat lover and worried that Gao Shujing wouldn't have enough meat coupons, thus reducing her meat dishes. So, Yu Rujia often brought meat over.

There are plenty of living things in the space, and someone cooks for you so you can enjoy the ready-made food. What a wonderful thing!

So Yu Rujia would find all sorts of ways to send him pheasants, rabbits, and pork to ensure that he would never run out of meat.

Gao Shujing knew she was someone who knew how to enjoy life, so he would cook meat for her whenever he saw it. Therefore, their family's meals included at least two different meat dishes for lunch and dinner. As for breakfast, it was mostly porridge, eggs, or noodles.

Fortunately, they don't have many visitors, so no one noticed how luxurious their life was. Otherwise, they would definitely be extremely envious or provoke those people into doing something outrageous.

To save time, Yu Rujia used to make porridge or steamed egg custard every day, and she would eat these herself, at most having a small treat in the space away from the kids.

She had to be washed before coming out, otherwise Duolu would keep sniffing around her with his little nose, looking so aggrieved that Yu Rujia felt bad.

She wasn't the type to eat alone. It wasn't that the kids were too young to eat many things, so she thought of secretly eating them herself. Little did she know that Duolu had such a keen nose that he could detect even the slightest smell.

Since Gao Shujing moved in, her quality of life has improved dramatically. She no longer has to eat secretly and can even order food from the menu.

When Gao Shujing encountered a dish he couldn't cook, Yu Rujia would stand by and guide him on how to make it, and Gao Shujing would always cook it for her as she wished. In short, she had fewer and fewer opportunities to cook for herself.

With fewer children around, Yu Rujia no longer had to be so busy, so she took out the fabric that the police station had sent earlier and planned to make some clothes for the children.

They only had a few clothes they had brought with them, and after a month or two of wear and tear, some of them were torn. They needed to mend them, but they also needed new clothes.

The two bolts of cloth that the police station delivered for the second time were perfect for children, and Yu Rujia planned to make two sets for each of them.

The kids had been with Gao Shujing for a few days and had come to regard his house as their own. Except for sleeping, when they would still go back to Yu Rujia's place, they spent most of their time with Gao Shujing.

It wasn't that she didn't want the children to sleep with Gao Shujing, but whenever she brought it up, the kids would look aggrieved as if she were going to abandon them. Even the usually sensible Duofu pouted and didn't say anything, so Yu Rujia had no choice but to let them sleep together.

Just as I had settled the children into bed and was about to take a nap, a girl rushed over and called out from outside the door, "Yu Zhiqing, Yu Zhiqing, are you there?"

Her shouts not only woke up the children, but also brought Gao Shujing out.

Yu Rujia responded, "Coming." Then she patted Duofu, who was still wide awake with sleepy eyes, and said, "Duofu, take your little brother to sleep. Auntie will be going out for a bit."

When the girl saw Yu Rujia, she opened her red eyes and pleaded urgently, "Yu, please save my sister."

Yu Rujia: "What happened to your sister?"

The girl said, "She was pushed to the ground, hit her head, and passed out. She bled a lot."

Upon hearing this, Yu Rujia said, "I'll go get the medicine box and go with you. Gao Zhiqing, could you please keep an eye on Duofu and the others for me?"

In front of family members, Yu Rujia always calls Gao Shujing "Fourth Brother," but in front of outsiders, she still calls him "Gao the Educated Youth." After all, they haven't known each other for very long, so calling each other by name is still a bit awkward.

Gao Shujing: "Don't worry, I'll keep an eye on Duofu and the others."

When Yu Rujia arrived at the girl's house, following her footsteps, a large group of people were already sitting inside. A middle-aged woman and two girls stood to one side, wiping away tears. All of them were similarly thin, like bamboo poles.

Both Captain Huang and Party Secretary Li were present, sitting there with dark expressions.

When Captain Huang saw her coming, he hurriedly called out, "Yu Zhiqing, come quickly and see Lai Di, is there any hope for her?"

What came into view was a skinny girl, with her bones clearly visible.

Nowadays, most people can only eat until they are half full. There are many thin people and few fat people, but Yu Rujia has never seen anyone this thin before. The girl who came to call her earlier was just as thin.

The blood on Lai Di's head had already formed some clots, and it seemed that she had maintained this state for at least twenty minutes.

It wouldn't take more than ten minutes to run to her and back, but this family was more than ten minutes late in coming to call her. The two big shots from the brigade are here, so there must be something going on.

Yu Rujia's mind raced with information as she continuously took Lai Di's pulse, fed her health pills, and treated her wounds.

Several minutes after the wound was treated, Lai Di's condition, where she was exhaling less than inhaling, improved, and her complexion relaxed slightly.

Putting down her tools, Yu Rujia said, "A head injury is a serious matter. Why did it take so long to call me? A few minutes later and she would have been dead."

Captain Huang glared fiercely at an old woman with triangular eyes. Seeing her shrink back, he turned his gaze back and asked, "Is Lai Di alright now?"

Yu Rujia: "You're so thin, your head is broken, and you've lost so much blood, do you think you're okay?"

Captain Huang choked on his words: "Can it be saved?"

Yu Rujia: "Her life has been saved for now, but she needs to be carefully cared for. We'll stew some meat soup or eggs for her every day and see how it goes for a month..."

Before she could finish speaking, the old woman with triangular eyes interrupted her: "A good-for-nothing, wanting to eat meat and eggs? Why don't you let her fly to the heavens?"

"You piece of trash, you bitch, you slut, you can't stand to see us doing well. You deliberately make us pay to support a worthless piece of trash, trying to extort us. Dream on, get out of my house."

Yu Rujia hadn't encountered such a shameless shrew in a long time; anyone else would have been driven mad by her long ago.

Captain Huang's eyes widened: "Uncle Dawei, who's in charge of your family? If you can't control your wife, I'll hand her over to the town's Women's Federation."

An elderly man in his sixties sat down, smacked his lips, and said with his head down, "We'll listen to you."

His words immediately enraged his wife, who threw a tantrum: "What are you listening to? If we listen to them, how can our whole family survive? You might as well sell us all to buy meat for that good-for-nothing to eat!"
