Chapter 29 Huang Lai Di Wakes Up 01

Yu Rujia was cleaning at home when she heard a sputtering sound coming from the doorway. She put down her broom and went outside, where she saw Gao Shujing turning off the tractor and getting off.

Captain Huang stood beside the tractor with a big smile on his face, the back of the truck filled with a large pile of scrap metal.

Yu Rujia: "Why did you bring back so much junk?"

Captain Huang protested, "This is not scrap metal; it is the gold ingot that will make our Shangfen Brigade rich."

Gao Shujing explained, "These are discarded bicycles, sewing machines, radios, refrigerators, and the like that collected by the brigade leader."

"My next job is to repair these things, and after they are repaired, hand them over to the brigade, and then take them out to exchange with others in the name of the brigade."

Yu Rujia: "It will probably take several months to repair all these things."

Captain Huang: "Gao Zhiqing will be the director of our Shangfen Brigade Repair Shop from now on, and he will be in charge of these things. He has plenty of time. Gao Zhiqing, after you finish repairing the finished product, we will calculate the cost first, and then we will see how to calculate your income."

Gao Shujing: "I will produce the finished product as soon as possible."

Yu Rujia had previously worried that Gao Shujing would need to work in the fields after repairing the tractor, and she wouldn't be able to leave the children with him. Unexpectedly, he solved the problem quietly. She no longer needed to worry about who would look after the children.

After seeing Captain Huang off, Gao Shujing brought in a large piece of pork belly, with alternating layers of fat and lean meat: "Rujia, how do you think we should cook this piece of meat?"

Yu Rujia: "How about making minced meat porridge for the little ones, and stir-frying the rest with scallion-flavored pork belly?"

Gao Shujing: "Okay, you can pick the scallions in the backyard now. Tell me how you're going to do it."

Yu Rujia: "Add more chili peppers, garlic, and scallions, and use soy sauce and cornstarch first... Is that alright?"

Gao Shujing: "That sounds simple, let's try it tonight."

Yu Rujia: "The vegetable seedlings in the backyard are growing a bit too dense. When you go to pick the scallions, pick some vegetables to make a stir-fry."

The vegetables in the backyard had been growing for over a month, and with the blessing of Yu Rujia's spirit-gathering array, they were growing beautifully and looked delicious.

Gao Shujing: "Those vegetables are finally ready to eat. I've been watering them every day and have been looking forward to eating them for a while. It's still early, so I'll go and plant some more vegetables, and then pull up the remaining seedlings to eat."

Yu Rujia: "Okay, I'll go with you. Two people can move faster."

The seedlings are fresh and tender; those with abundant vitality are even sweeter and have a richer flavor.

Even Duolu, who loves meat the most, couldn't resist picking up a few more bites of vegetables.

Duoshou, who had become much more articulate, wouldn't even eat meat anymore, and kept digging into the vegetables: "Auntie, the vegetables are delicious, I want to eat them again tomorrow."

Gao Shujing, who was feeding Duoxi, said, "This is the first time I've ever tasted such delicious vegetables. If I hadn't watered them myself every day and cooked them myself, I would have thought there were some special ingredients added."

The vegetables smelled so good when they were freshly stir-fried that Gao Shujing took a few bites. If it weren't for the little fat boy Duoxi making such a fuss, he wouldn't have wanted to put down his chopsticks.

Yu Rujia calmly lied: "The water from the well in the backyard tastes better than anywhere else. How could vegetables grown with such water not taste good?"

The well water seeping from the rock strata of the mountain wall contains minerals and various trace elements. It is crystal clear, cool, refreshing, and slightly sweet.

Uncontaminated well water is drinkable. A bowl of it in the sweltering summer is like drinking ice water on a hot summer day—it's simply refreshing.

Duofu kept chewing, but that didn't stop him from supporting Yu Rujia: "The water and vegetables are delicious, Duofu likes them."

Yu Rujia picked up a piece of green vegetable for him: "Eat more if you like it. There's plenty in our backyard, enough for everyone."

The day after the Huang family members were taken away, Huang Laidi woke up.

This person was unconscious for two whole days. It wasn't that Yu Rujia's medical skills were too poor, but rather that the person's physical condition was too weak, and there was blood all over the place. It was a miracle that Yu Rujia was able to keep him alive until he woke up.

Lu Fangfang and the others were very happy, and Huang Daidi even stewed the fish that she caught in the river into soup for her to drink.

The four eggs that Yu Rujia had given her earlier had already been made into egg soup and fed to Huang Laidi little by little. In order to get some meat to nourish her body, Huang led Huang to catch fish in the river for a while.

She actually caught a few; the largest weighed half a pound, and the smallest weighed two or three ounces.

While Huang Laidi was in a coma, they fed her fish soup, and the fish they kept could serve her another meal.

In her previous life, there were no doctors in the brigade, and Huang Daidi watched helplessly as Huang Laidi breathed her last. When she saw Huang Laidi wake up again, Huang Daidi couldn't stop her tears from flowing.

Just as they were wiping away tears of joy at Huang Laidi's awakening, an untimely voice rang out: "Laidi, now that you're awake, go to town and ask the police to release your grandmother and the others."

It was Huang Jingnan. His words drew angry glares from Huang Daidi and the others, but he was oblivious to it and continued to spout grand principles.

Huang Jingnan: "Your grandma and her family are elders. Your granddaughter is unfilial. How dare she sue your grandma? If it weren't for those busybodies, I would have beaten her to death long ago."

"She's a good-for-nothing, and she's already full of bad ideas at such a young age. What will she be like when she grows up? You mustn't be like her."

His resentment towards Huang Daidi was as if she were not his daughter, but his enemy.

Since Huang Laidi had just woken up, he didn't say a single kind word to her. His first words were to tell her to go to the police station to drop the case, completely disregarding Huang Laidi's life or death.

Even the usually meek Lü Fangfang couldn't help but say weakly, "Dai Di is good, it's you who's bad. I want a divorce and will take my daughters and stay far away from you."

Lu Fangfang had previously mentioned wanting a divorce, but Huang Jingnan didn't believe she had the guts to leave the Huang family.

He assumed that she had said those things entirely because she was forced by her unfilial daughter, Huang Daidi, and that the divorce would naturally be dropped once she calmed down. He didn't take the matter to heart at all.

Huang Jingnan reprimanded her as a matter of course: "What can you women do when you go out? You'll be bullied to death sooner or later."

“As long as you sell Daidi, I will talk to Mother and ask her not to hold it against you. If you work hard and earn more work points, Mother will forgive you and agree to let you stay at home.”

This statement was so grand that it seemed as if allowing Lü Fangfang and the others to stay in the Huang family was a great favor done for them.

Huang Daidi sneered, "Grandma and the others tried to sell me out, and now they've all been arrested by the police. You want to sell me out? Be careful not to anger me, or I'll go to the police station again and have them arrest you too."

Huang Jingnan angrily said, "You unfilial daughter, I shouldn't have let your mother keep you when she gave birth to you. If I had followed your grandmother's wishes and drowned you in the chamber pot, none of this would have happened."
