Foodie Duolu is always the fastest among his brothers when it comes to fresh food. After the adults in the family have started making their own food, the little guy has already grabbed a piece of frozen pear.
As soon as he took a bite, pear juice flowed out. Tasting the sweetness, Duolu stuck out his tongue and licked the pear juice that was about to drip onto the ground into his mouth.
Duo Shou quickly asked, "Du Lu, how does it taste?"
Duolu swallowed the pear juice and said with a delighted expression, "Sweet, delicious."
Everyone else was eating frozen pears and looking quite pleased with themselves, so Duoshou stopped complaining and took a bite.
The sweet and juicy frozen pear made the little guy speed up involuntarily, because the juice was flowing out so fast.
After finishing the frozen pear in his hand, Duoshou finally had a chance to praise it: "This frozen pear is sweeter and tastier than the pears we used to eat."
The safflower was sweet and sour, and just as delicious, but there was too little of it. There were too many people in his family, and everyone only got a taste before it was all gone.
Duolu looked at Gao Shujing expectantly: "Uncle, could you buy some frozen pears and crabapples to eat? They're delicious."
Besides the fruit they grow themselves, most of the fruit from outside was brought back by Gao Shujing; the children remember this.
Gao Shujing: "The place that makes frozen pears is too far away from us. Uncle will ask around when he has the chance."
After lunch, Yu Rujia arrived at Huang Guihua's house. Huang Guihua was tidying up the New Year's goods she had bought from the market. She greeted Yu Rujia warmly.
Huang Guihua: "Didn't your whole family go to the market? Why are you back so soon?"
Yu Rujia: "I've already prepared most of the New Year's goods. I just went to the market to join in the fun. You bought quite a lot of things."
The table was completely covered with food; compared to Huang Guihua's usual frugality, she really went all out this time.
Huang Guihua: "We only celebrate the New Year once a year, so let's be generous this once."
Yu Rujia: "Sister Guihua, how's your accounting going?"
Huang Guihua casually replied, "I'm good at doing accounts, why are you asking this?"
Yu Rujia: "I have a friend who works at the supply and marketing cooperative in town. She is going to have a baby in March and is looking for someone to fill in for her for two or three months. That's when I thought of you. I wonder if you would be interested in giving it a try?"
The candy Huang Guihua was holding fell to the ground with a thud. The sound brought her back to her senses, and she was so excited that she didn't even bother to pick up the candy that had fallen to the ground.
Huang Guihua: "You really want me to do it? I don't have any education, this, this, can I do it?"
That's a town, after all. The workers who come to the factory have to have at least a junior high school education. There are plenty of educated people in the town who don't have jobs. Even if it's just a substitute shift, there's a lot of people vying for it.
How could someone without a degree work there? It's unbelievable.
Yu Rujia explained, "She sells fabrics. As long as you don't miscalculate the money or damage the goods, you should be fine. She plans to finish February. If you're willing to cover for her, you can start from March 1st."
"This substitute worker is only paid the temporary worker's wage. She will come back to work after her maternity leave."
Huang Guihua: "I bought everything in my house myself. I'm good at accounting, but can I really manage it?"
Yu Rujia: "I'm just introducing you to give it a try. Whether it works or not, we'll have to see it for ourselves to know."
"Also, there's something I need to make clear to you beforehand: she has a sister-in-law who's been keeping an eye on her job."
"Ever since she announced her pregnancy, her in-laws have been demanding that she transfer her job to her husband's younger sister, which has caused quite a stir in their family."
“She found several substitutes, but they were all kicked out by her in-laws. Now no one dares to cover for her, so she wants me to introduce a capable person from the countryside to help her keep her job. If you're planning to go, you should be prepared.”
At first, she couldn't quite believe that someone would actually hire someone without a degree to fill in for her. But after hearing the reason, Huang Guihua's excitement subsided a bit. If this job were easy to get, she wouldn't have had the chance.
When it comes to being fierce, she's not afraid at all. Many old hooligans in the team have argued with her, but no one can get the better of her.
Huang Guihua: "I'm willing. When can you take me to meet people?"
Yu Rujia: "I'm available anytime, just pick a time that's convenient for you."
Huang Guihua asked shyly, "Can we go today?"
Going to work in town, even just as a substitute, is a rare opportunity that many people from rural areas would never encounter in their entire lives.
Even if someone's family affairs are in complete chaos, the countryside is never short of feisty people.
If the other party gets impatient and asks someone else to find a suitable candidate, wouldn't she miss out on this opportunity for nothing?
Huang Guihua couldn't wait to go to town and finalize the substitute shift arrangement with someone.
Yu Rujia: "Okay, let's go by bicycle."
Huang Guihua's family got a new bicycle from the team. If she really takes this shift, she can go to work at eight in the morning and get off at five in the afternoon. The commute is during the day, and there are fields on both sides of the road with people coming and going, so it's safe and worry-free.
On her way home, Yu Rujia encountered Huang Lijie and Cheng Qi walking side by side.
Cheng Qi was an educated youth who came in 1968. He was taciturn and didn't interact much with others. Even among the other educated youth in the educated youth compound, no one could exchange more than a few words with him.
Yu Rujia had heard Duo Shou mention Huang Lijie's pursuit of Cheng Qi, and judging from their current behavior, it seems that good news is on the horizon.
When the three met, Huang Lijie asked with a smile, "Why didn't Yu, the educated youth, go to the market?"
Yu Rujia: "You went there and came back, what's going on...?"
Huang Lijie introduced, "I came out for a walk with my boyfriend, this is Cheng Qicheng, a former educated youth. We plan to get married after the New Year."
She told Zhou Zhenzhen that she wanted to marry a former educated youth, and Zhou Zhenzhen took it to heart. She conducted a thorough investigation of the male educated youths in the educated youth compound and finally chose Cheng Qi.
Although Cheng Qi didn't like socializing, he was an upright person and usually earned more than eight work points every day, making him one of the more capable people in the educated youth compound.
Moreover, he seems to have very little contact with his family. In the two years since he came here, he has only contacted them a few times. In other words, he does not receive any subsidies from his family and does not need to subsidize them much.
This is perfect for Huang Lijie, who doesn't really want to deal with her in-laws.
Yu Rujia: "Congratulations on your marriage to Cheng Zhiqing. I wish you a long and happy life together and many children."
Cheng Qi thanked him shyly.
He never expected that Huang Lijie, one of the best girls in the brigade, would be interested in him. He had some bad thoughts before and rejected Huang Lijie.
Huang Lijie did not give up because of this, and still came over often. When she went to work, her family would also take care of him.
After spending more than half a year together, he found that Huang Lijie was indeed a good person, and that's when he had further contact with her.
Huang Lijie: "We'll invite you all to our wedding banquet."
