Yu Rujia: "Your little brat keeps calling people 'stinking intellectuals,' 'bitch,' and 'scum.' I can't stand it. I'm not her mother, and I have no obligation to indulge her. Go back to where you came from."
“I’m just a barefoot doctor who can’t find a job in the city. If even the doctors in the hospital can’t cure her mother’s illness, there’s nothing I can do.”
Before Huang Jingbei could say anything more, Duofu came running over with his short legs and asked in a childish voice, "Auntie, what are we having for dinner tonight?"
Isn't everything we eat arranged by Gao Shujing? Duofu ran over, clearly on Gao Shujing's orders to shoo people away.
Yu Rujia hugged Duofu in her arms and pretended to pat his still-full belly: "Is our Duofu hungry? Auntie will go and cook you some food right away."
He turned to Huang Jingbei and dismissed him, saying, "Comrade Huang, I have things to do. You can take your things and go back."
Duofu wriggled out of Yu Rujia's arms and picked up the things Huang Jingbei had brought: "We need to cook. Duofu will see you out."
The clever little boy carried the things to the door, put them outside, and waited with a stern face for Huang Jingbei to come over.
Huang Jingbei knew he wouldn't achieve his goal today, and he did have some doubts about Yu Rujia's medical skills, believing that her curing of Dazhuang's wife was probably just a lucky accident.
He put himself in others' shoes, thinking that if Yu Rujia were really that capable, she would stay in the city instead of going to the countryside to be an educated youth like she is now.
Having thought things through, Huang Jingbei took his leave and left with his belongings.
After successfully sending the person away, Duofu's stern face immediately lit up with a smug smile. He tilted his chin up and looked at Yu Rujia with bright eyes, looking like he wanted praise. Yu Rujia couldn't help but pick him up and kiss him twice.
Yu Rujia: "Oh my, how can our Duofu be so amazing? Duofu knows how to help with things that Auntie didn't even ask for. He's fantastic."
Duofu was embarrassed by the praise and nuzzled Yu Rujia, saying, "Duofu will grow up quickly to help Auntie with more things and not let Auntie be bullied."
Yu Rujia: "Yes, Auntie is waiting for Duofu to grow up and protect Auntie."
The twins and Duoxi walked over accompanied by Gao Shujing. Seeing Yu Rujia and Duofu being affectionate, the twins ran over, each hugging one of Yu Rujia's legs.
Duolu: "Duolu protects, Auntie."
Duo Shou: "Duo Shou is powerful, he beats up bad guys, and protects his aunt."
The two adorable little creatures opened their big eyes and said in their sweet, childlike voices that they wanted to protect you. Yu Rujia's heart melted. Children are indeed the most healing.
After putting Duofu down, Yu Rujia picked up one of the adorable little creatures in each arm and cuddled them affectionately.
With such excitement, Duo Xi was naturally drawn to the scene. He grabbed Gao Shujing's clothes and clamored to get closer to Yu Rujia and the others.
Gao Shujing patted his little head: "Good boy, Uncle will hug you."
Duo Xi wouldn't listen and urged him to go over. Gao Shujing couldn't persuade him, so he put the little guy on the ground and let him walk over by himself.
Duoxi was learning to walk and could walk while holding onto things.
There were tables and chairs in the lobby. The little guy got off the ground and, holding onto the tables and chairs, walked step by step toward Yu Rujia. Gao Shujing followed behind him and pulled him up when he was about to fall.
Duo Xi successfully pulled down Yu Rujia's pants, and the group hugged each other and laughed.
Looking at the smiling faces of his aunt and nieces, Gao Shujing's eyes softened unconsciously.
Yu Rujia went out and brought back four thick cotton quilts, four thin cotton quilts, and ten catties of cotton.
I used several wooden sticks to tie all these things to the back of the bicycle and carried them home under the cover of night. There were just too many things, and if people saw them when I came back during the day, it would cause a lot of trouble.
Upon seeing the items, Gao Shujing was genuinely startled. After helping the others carry everything into the house, he asked, "Rujia, where did you get so much cotton? Where did you take it?"
Grain yields are low, so all the land here is used to grow grain. If they want cotton, they have to use cotton coupons to buy it in town.
Cotton coupons were hard to come by, and there were far more monks than porridge. It was already quite an achievement to get two or three catties of cotton. Yu Rujia managed to get dozens of catties and made so many cotton quilts. How could an honest person get such cotton?
These things were all taken out of Yu Rujia's space. Winter was coming, and they needed quilts, as did the cowshed. If she hadn't taken too many things and couldn't tie them to the bicycle, she would have taken out even more.
After Gao Shujing arrived, he took over most of the housework, so Yu Rujia only needed to manage her own affairs and take care of the children at night, which saved her a lot of trouble.
Similarly, after he arrived, Yu Rujia's use of the space became less convenient. If people didn't go out, there would be so many extra quilts and cotton. If this happened too often, even a fool would know there was a problem, let alone Gao Shujing, who was already very meticulous.
Faced with Gao Shujing's question, Yu Rujia couldn't reveal the secret of her space, so she didn't deny his guess. She had brought back so much cotton that she couldn't deny it all.
Gao Shujing is quick-witted, insightful, and methodical in his work; very few things can affect his emotions.
He hadn't been angry when the original owner of this body stole his things a few times before. He had only privately taught her a lesson, just to make her more careful in her actions so as not to implicate the Xia family.
But Yu Rujia secretly went to that kind of place without telling him and acted like a dead pig that wasn't afraid of boiling water, Gao Shujing couldn't maintain his composure.
Gao Shujing: "Can't you tell me before you ask for anything? We're family, can't we discuss things together? I've already asked someone to get the cotton for these quilts, and six quilts and twenty catties of cotton will be delivered the day after tomorrow."
"I thought it was hot now, and I could bring it back in a few days, but you actually went to a place like that without telling me. Aren't you going to scare us to death?"
Yu Rujia, who had been a little guilty, straightened up immediately after hearing Gao Shujing's words and sneered, "Six quilts and twenty catties of cotton? Didn't you also trade with those people? Otherwise, where would you have gotten these things?"
"You're being hypocritical, saying that magistrates are allowed to set fires while commoners are forbidden even to light lamps. Besides, why didn't you tell me about all this? Didn't you say that family members should discuss things together? Why didn't you discuss it with me?"
The words he had just spoken about Yu Rujia had come back to haunt him, and Gao Shujing felt a little breathless, but he had to show the proper attitude.
Gao Shujing: "I'm not like you. At least I can run faster than you. You're not allowed to go to those places anymore. If you need anything, just tell me and I'll get it for you. If you go to those places again, I'll tell your second aunt."
He knew that the only person who could restrain Yu Rujia was Han Meifeng. Even though complaining was something only children would do, Gao Shujing said that he couldn't care less about that since Yu Rujia's audacity had clearly exceeded all limits. He would use any method that worked.
