The older children were used to where the seasonings were placed and weren't as flustered as Du Le, so they wouldn't put the wrong seasonings in. This was the first time Du Le had ever done this.
After putting the vegetables in the pan, Dorje teased his adorable "little sister" for a bit, then thought he'd come in and see his younger brother's first time cooking.
Surprisingly, aside from being a little clumsy and having some food burnt in the pot, he was otherwise fine.
Dorjee gave a thumbs-up and praised, "Dole is really amazing! You made such a great dish on your first try. You have a real talent for cooking!"
Completely unaware that she had mixed up several similar seasonings, Duo Lele said cheerfully, "Right? I also think I'm good at it, but the heat was a bit too high just now. It's my first time cooking, and I'm not very good at it, so I burned a little bit."
Dorjee: "Next time if the fire gets too big, just take out one or two pieces of firewood, and the fire will be smaller."
They often use hard firewood when cooking, so they don't need to keep adding fuel.
With his older brother's approval, Duole's hands moved more nimbly with the spatula, and the stir-fried pork was quickly plated.
Duole stared at the distinctly colored stir-fried pork on the plate, feeling quite pleased with himself: "With this experience, I'm sure I can do even better next time. Fifth Brother, how about letting me make more dishes next time you cook?"
Dorjee: "Of course you can. I think your dish looks great. Your dishes will only get better in the future. If you make a mistake once or twice and the taste is a little off, we still have steamed buns and mantou if we can't finish it. It won't go to waste. Go ahead and make it boldly."
Just as Duole picked up his chopsticks, ready to taste the dish he had made, Duoshou came in and couldn't resist showing off.
Duole: "Third Brother, look, I made this dish. Fifth Brother said it's very good. Do you want to try it?"
Duo Shou glanced sideways and saw a plate of stir-fried pork on the stove. Although the color was a little worse than usual, it was still within an acceptable range.
Thinking that it was Duole's first time cooking, and with Dorje's recommendation, even if the stir-fried pork was ruined, it shouldn't be too bad, so I took the chopsticks from Duole's hand.
Duoshou: "Okay, I'll try it."
Under the watchful eyes of Duo Le Duo Ji, Duo Shou picked up a piece of stir-fried pork and put it in his mouth. He immediately felt his teeth were about to fall out from the sourness, and there was also a sweet and cloying taste. His face twitched involuntarily.
When he saw his two younger brothers looking at him with bright eyes, without any guilt, he guessed that they hadn't tasted the food and that he was the first one to be unlucky.
Du Le asked excitedly, "Third Brother, how was my cooking?"
Duo Shou swallowed the meat in his mouth, thinking about the sweet and sour taste he had heard about in Jiangcheng. He really couldn't understand what was so good about this dish, but since some people liked it, maybe some of his family members liked it too.
We can bring it to the table for everyone to try. It's Duole's first time cooking, so we can't waste it.
Duo Shou forced out a smile, saying, "The taste is a bit off, but it's a good start for someone who's cooking for the first time. I'll bring this dish to the table, and you can eat more later."
With his third brother's words, the two younger brothers, who were not very bright, quickly believed him.
Dorje patted his younger brother on the shoulder and said, "I told you you were good. Keep up the good work."
Du Le nodded emphatically: "No problem."
That evening, the family gathered around the table, and Duole solemnly introduced the dishes he had cooked.
Duole: "Dad, Mom, brothers and sisters, today is the first time I've cooked. This stir-fried pork is what I made. After my third brother and fifth brother gave their feedback, they both said it was very good."
"Please try it. If there's anything you don't like, please point it out. I'll definitely correct it in the future and strive to become an excellent chef."
They were still using the tunes they learned from watching plays in Jiangcheng; the little guy has really grown up.
Yu Rujia glanced at the stir-fried pork; from the outside, there didn't seem to be anything wrong with it.
Yu Rujia encouraged, "Our family member has grown into a little adult again. This is a day worth celebrating. Let's all try Du Le's cooking."
After saying that, he picked up his chopsticks to pick up the stir-fried pork.
Duoshou called out, "Auntie, I think I remember putting the spoon in front of you. Can you help me find it?"
Some people might like the sweet and sour flavor, but Duoshou thought that person definitely couldn't be his aunt, so he tried to get her away and let his brothers serve the new dishes first.
Yu Rujia didn't notice anything amiss. With a quick glance, she found a spoon next to a basin. Just as she was about to hand it to Duoshou, she noticed it was a bit dirty.
Yu Rujia: "Oh, this spoon is dirty, let me get you a new one."
Gao Shujing was teaching Duoyi how to use a spoon when he noticed that Yu Rujia had turned around and that Duoshou was sitting still in his seat, which seemed unusual. He noticed something was wrong.
Gao Shujing: "I'm going to teach Duoyi how to drink soup with a spoon. Don't wait for us, you can start eating."
Hearing his uncle's words, Duolu enthusiastically picked up a piece of stir-fried pork with his chopsticks and put it in his mouth. Apart from Duoshou, the other brothers also supported their younger brother's first cooking and picked up some stir-fried pork as well.
The unsuspecting group quickly contorted their faces in a grimace.
Duolu covered his teeth, which were aching from the sourness, and said angrily, "Duoshou, Duoji and Duole, didn't you try the food first?"
Dorje frowned and swallowed the meat in his mouth: "Third Brother tasted it and said the taste was a little off, but it was edible."
It's edible and won't kill you, but what normal person would like to eat a dish that's both sour and sweet?
Duoxi swallowed the meat with difficulty: "Third Brother, how could you lie to me?"
Duole's eyes were already watering from the sour taste. He knew that he had put in the wrong seasoning. His third brother was too mean. He had clearly tasted it but didn't tell them.
Duofu's icy face even cracked a little; he hadn't eaten such terrible food in a long time.
Duo Shou smiled and said, "Don't say that. When we went to Jiangcheng last time, didn't Third Grandfather say that the specialty dish of Shuicheng is sweet and sour? Ours is sweet and sour pork tenderloin."
Yu Rujia didn't expect that when she turned around, she would see a group of children with miserable faces. Noticing their gazes and Duoshou's expression, Yu Rujia twirled the spoon in her hand, knowing that the little guy Duoshou had deliberately sent him away.
This guy has a conscience; she really can't enjoy sweet and sour pork.
Yu Rujia handed the spoon to Duoshou, sat down on the stool and silently ate the food in front of her, listening to the children complaining about the sweet and sour pork.
The simple-minded Duoxi didn't think so much: "How could anyone like such a strange taste? No wonder my third grandfather was hungry when he went to Shuicheng before. If it were me, I wouldn't be able to eat it either."
Duolu knew that Duoshou was definitely doing it on purpose. He had been a wicked person since he was a child. He would eat something bad himself and then want them to suffer along with him, but he had no evidence.
Duolu: "If Duoshou likes to eat, then eat more. We really can't get used to it."
