Duolu moved the large box to the door of the carriage, and a group of children rushed over and helped carry it off the train. It weighed at least two or three hundred pounds.
As soon as Duolu got out of the car, he carried the two or three hundred pounds of seafood to the kitchen without even blinking, shouting, "We're going to cook seafood today."
Duoyi chased after him, her little back view radiating excitement: "Let's make seafood!"
Just as Duoxi was about to follow, Xia Jingxing grabbed her clothes from behind: "Hey, you've given me the seafood, could you help me clean the car?"
As a grown man, he wasn't as meticulous about cleaning as Xia Jingshu or the kids he had taught. Since he had finally caught someone, Xia Jingxing naturally wanted to help out.
With something delicious to eat, Duoxi was all for it: "Okay, I'll bring water over for you to clean up later."
We had a seafood feast for dinner, and the whole family enjoyed it very much.
Xia Yuanqiang: "Jingxing, bring back more seafood if you have the chance. The seafood you buy outside isn't as fresh as the seafood you bring."
The nearest sea to Beijing is over 100 kilometers away. With transit time, it takes at least a day for seafood to go from the sea to the market in Beijing, during which time much of the seafood dies and loses its freshness.
The seafood Xia Jingxing brought back was freshly caught from the sea, killed, and placed in a large box that resembled a freezer. Almost no time had passed between them, making it much fresher than what was sold in the market.
Xia Jingxing readily agreed, "Sure, I'll bring some back next time I come back from Pengcheng. There's so much seafood there, the people living by the sea are sick of it."
"Some large sea snails, oysters, squid, and the like were left there unattended. When I went over to ask, there were plenty of people willing to catch seafood for me."
Dorje was enjoying a grilled oyster when he heard this and asked, "Oysters are so delicious, why don't they sell them?"
Xia Jingxing: "Idiot, seafood spoils quickly once it leaves the sea. If it spoils before it's even sold, who will buy it?"
Duoxi held a large sea snail in her hand: "They can make it into dried form or into sauce like field frogs and snails and sell it. It won't spoil even after a year."
They make a lot of different kinds of sauces every year, which are especially good with rice.
When it comes to cooking, apart from Duoyi who hasn't started school yet, the rest of the children in the family all have a wealth of experience.
Xia Jingxing: "Not everyone knows how to eat like you. You can turn any ingredient into food that lasts a long time."
"Speaking of which, you still have a month before you go back to school. Why don't you come with me to Shenzhen and have a feast of seafood while thinking about some foods that can be stored for a long time? Let's open a seafood factory."
“There are no seafood products on the market, so we’ve made this, and we’re sure it will sell like hotcakes.”
Han Meifeng suddenly said, "If you had the same drive for starting a business when it comes to blind dates, you wouldn't still be a bachelor in your thirties."
Xia Jingxing is thirty-two years old this year. He was twenty-seven when he returned from Shangfen Brigade. He has been idle for two years since he came back, so they are reluctant to introduce him to potential partners.
He was successful in his career at the age of thirty, and because he practiced martial arts and often used soaps made by Rujia, he looked like he was in his early twenties.
Many people came to propose marriage, but Xia Jingxing was not interested. After saying a few words, he would disappear without a trace, and when asked, he would say that he was busy with business.
I'm 32 now and still don't have a boyfriend.
Xia Jingxing was no match for Yu Rujia in Han Meifeng's heart, but that didn't mean Han Meifeng didn't care about her own son. He was over thirty and still single, so how could she not be anxious?
Xia Jingxing froze for a moment as he picked up some food, inwardly lamenting that another round of pressure to get married had begun.
That's why he's a little afraid to go home.
Xia Jingxing: "Mom, it's not like we're without descendants. We have a bunch of nephews and nieces. What are you afraid of?"
"Besides, my third brother is thirty-five this year and still doesn't have a girlfriend. Look how anxious my eldest uncle and aunt are. You should learn from your eldest aunt, relax. Worrying too much will make you age faster."
Xia Jingrong had been stuck in the position of platoon leader for more than ten years. In 1975, the pressure eased and he was promoted. He took the opportunity to apply for more field missions.
His promotions were incredibly fast, like a rocket launch, and in just seven years he went from a platoon leader to a regimental commander.
While busy with missions and promotions, he naturally didn't have time for his marriage, and so it was delayed.
Xia Taiping and Xu Xiangyue, who were quietly eating seafood, were caught in the crossfire.
Speaking of her youngest son, Xu Xiangyue was equally worried. He had been held back by his family in his early years, and in the following years he had been busy building his career and hadn't had time to get married.
Xia Jingrong can't go home even once a year. They live far apart, and he often can't reach them by phone. He can't even urge them to get married.
Xu Xiangyue: "I've always been concerned about Jingrong's marriage, but his career is at a critical stage of growth, and we can't find him to urge him to get married."
"Jingxing, don't compare yourself to your third brother. You're not young anymore; it's time for you to get married."
Xia Jingxing retorted, "My career is also on the rise. I only come back when I have free time. I don't have time to think about these things."
Han Meifeng: "Can your career be the same as your third brother's? If your third brother misses the opportunity, it will be even more difficult for him to get promoted again."
"Your career is all about making money. You have more assets than you can spend in a lifetime. You don't need to work so hard to get to where you are now. I think you're just using your career as an excuse to avoid us."
Xia Jingxing, realizing his secret had been exposed, looked pleadingly at Yu Rujia, knowing that if she spoke up, Han Meifeng would definitely not notice him.
Yu Rujia, with the seafood someone brought back in her mouth, thought, "..." To speak or not to speak, that is the question.
Xia Jingshu spoke up to relieve his wife's anxiety: "Jingxing's marriage needs to be taken seriously. Mom is right. You have so much to do in your career, there's no need to sacrifice your family for it."
Han Meifeng: "Jing Shu is still the most pleasant to talk to. Jing Xing, you should learn from him. If you could make me as worry-free as Jing Shu, I could live for decades longer."
Xia Jingxing secretly glared at Xia Jingshu; this guy just talks without understanding the situation.
After tidying up and lying in bed that night, Yu Rujia said, "Jingshu, after hearing you guys talk about Pengcheng for so long, I really want to go there."
Xia Jingshu turned over, lowered his eyes and smiled, and said softly, "I thought Rujia was only interested in the Shangfen Brigade."
Yu Rujia: "There's a lot of seafood there, and you've mentioned it so many times, so I've become interested."
Xia Jingshu gently nibbled on her earlobe, his deep voice filled with a hint of doting: "If Madam is interested, we must arrange it."
Xia Wenqing waited outside the Xia family's door for several days until he finally spotted Xia Jingxing out. He quickly appeared and went up to him, saying, "Fifth Brother."
Only a few people called Xia Jingxing "Fifth Brother". Hearing Xia Wenqing's voice, he looked over even though it sounded unfamiliar.
Xia Wenqing looked much older than she had a decade ago. Xia Jingxing called out uncertainly, "Wenqing?"
