Chapter 51 Electrification 01

Duofu rolled her eyes at him: "Why don't you enjoy your food?"

Gao Shujing is a good cook; everything he makes tastes delicious. Duoxi is not picky about food, so she eats with even more relish, like a little piglet who can't control her mouth when she encounters food.

Urged on by Duoxi, Duofu sped up the feeding of porridge, and before he could see clearly, he fed the porridge into Duoxi's nose.

Startled, Duoxi burst into tears. Duofu frantically wiped Duoxi's nose, crying out, "Auntie, I fed Duoxi some porridge up her nose! What should I do?"

Yu Rujia, who had been sitting on the side watching the brothers interact, got up and walked to the two of them: "Don't rush, let your aunt take a look."

Duo Xi threw herself into Yu Rujia's arms, feeling wronged: "Auntie, brother, you're bad."

Yu Rujia cleaned the stuff out of his nose. Seeing that he felt better, she pinched his little ear and said, "Don't talk about your older brother like that. If it weren't for the fact that you're so greedy, your older brother wouldn't have to go through the trouble of feeding you porridge. Say sorry to your older brother."

Duofu, standing nearby, said remorsefully, "Auntie, it's my fault. I didn't see clearly and that's why I put the porridge up Duoxi's nose."

Yu Rujia reached out and hugged the little guy: "Nonsense, our Duofu is the best. He can take care of his younger brother at such a young age and help his aunt and uncle. Others who are Duofu's age can't do these things. Duofu is the best."

Duoxi shook his little head, looked at Duofu who was drooping his head, and realized that he had wronged him. He reached out his little hand and took Duofu's hand, saying in his still nasal voice, "Brother, okay."

Duofu looked at him with teary eyes: "Duoxi, do you blame your older brother?"

Duoxi couldn't understand a lot of what was being said, but that didn't stop him from having his own way of expressing himself. He smeared a few mouthfuls of saliva on Duofu's face, which was how his aunt usually expressed her affection for them.

I always feel happy after being kissed by my aunt. I think my older brother will be happy too if I kiss him.

Seeing that Duoxi was still willing to be close to him, Duofu stopped blaming himself, and the two brothers quickly became the best brothers in the world again.

Duofu picked up the bowl again to feed Duoxi porridge, but this time he was much more careful. He would only pour the porridge in after making sure the spoon was in Duoxi's mouth.

The two brothers fed each other, which made the twins next to them eager to try it themselves. They took out their small wooden bowls and wanted to learn from Duofu and scoop up porridge with a large spoon.

Their arms were too short, and they couldn't reach the big spoon after several attempts. In desperation, Duolu shouted for Yu Rujia to help: "Auntie, help me scoop it up."

Gao Shujing, who had just heard the crying and was carrying the last dish over, watched the whole thing and took Duolu's bowl: "Here, Uncle will scoop some porridge for you."

Gao Shujing brought over the kerosene lamp from the kitchen, making the room a little brighter. He reached out to take the bowl from Duofu's hand: "Duofu, eat. Let your uncle feed Duoxi."

Duofu, who was on good terms with Duoxi, refused: "I'll feed Duoxi, Uncle."

While swallowing his porridge, Duoxi spoke up to support his brother: "Brother, hey."

Seeing that the two got along well, Gao Shujing didn't insist anymore. He got his own food, sat down, and ate, occasionally putting some food that the twins couldn't reach on his plate.

The next morning, after breakfast, Gao Shujing took the children to Yu Rujia's place: "I'm going to ask the brigade leader when we'll get electricity here. The kerosene lamps are too dim, bad for our eyes, and inconvenient."

Yu Rujia: "Many households in the city still don't have electricity. The power supply station can't possibly care about us in the countryside. Asking is pointless."

It's no secret that the country is short of resources, and it's really not easy for rural areas to get electricity. Gao Shujing never thought that the supply station would take the initiative to provide electricity to their area.

Gao Shujing: "I've read books on this topic before. If the brigade leader has connections to get the wires and tools, I can give it a try."

He has a photographic memory and has read many books.

In the final months of university, professors often cannot attend classes, and their teaching time is greatly reduced.

When he wasn't in class, he mostly read books. If he encountered something he didn't understand, he would ask the professor for help. Having some prior knowledge in this area, he believed that with a few more tries, he should be able to get the electricity working.

Yu Rujia was also annoyed by the dimness of the kerosene lamp. Although the electric lights used in many parts of the city at that time were not very bright, they were much better than kerosene lamps.

Yu Rujia: "It's good to go and ask. The captain is a local and knows this place better than we do. Maybe he can actually get some wires and tools."

Captain Huang was very happy to see Gao Shujing come over, because every time he came, it meant that something had been repaired and the team had another source of income.

Team Leader Huang: "Did Gao Qingqing repair a bicycle or a radio this time?"

Gao Shujing: "I've got a sewing machine ready."

Sure enough, something new came out. Captain Huang said, "The sewing machine is good. I'll come to get it from you later."

Previously, when Gao Shujing brought the things over himself, they were snatched by the team members. Although the money was paid, the people who didn't snatch them were very unhappy. Later, it even escalated to the point where they would go to Gao Shujing's place to wait and snatch things as soon as they saw them.

Some clever people even tried to get close to Gao Shujing, hoping to order things from him in advance.

Gao Shujing was so annoyed that he passed the matter on to Captain Huang.

Captain Huang then gave the order that everything must be taken from the team's premises and that no one was allowed to take anything from Gao Shujing privately.

To avoid any disputes, Captain Huang told Gao Shujing that he should just notify him to pick up any repaired items in the future, and that he shouldn't deliver them anymore.

So now that something has come out, Gao Shujing comes over to inform Captain Huang and asks him to go and get it.

Gao Shujing: "I have another matter to discuss with you. Does the battalion commander know when our area will be electrified?"

Captain Huang couldn't help but roll his eyes: "Forget about it. We already asked the commune, and they said the power supply station is short of manpower and resources, and electricity is prioritized for the city. We in the countryside have no hope for the next few years. You've been here for a few months, haven't you gotten used to it yet?"

Gao Shujing: "I have experience with installing electrical wires. If the brigade leader can find the wires and tools, I can give it a try. Using electricity is much more convenient than using kerosene lamps."

Captain Huang originally thought that he knew a bit about machinery and that it was already quite remarkable that he could repair the waste. He didn't expect that the man also knew about electricity. The difference between people is just too great.

If you can use electricity in the city, who would still want to use kerosene lamps?

Captain Huang looked at Gao Shujing as if he were a gold ingot: "You really know how to install it?"

Gao Shujing: "We have to try first. Trying may not yield good results, but not trying will definitely not yield any results."

“After all, according to the captain, there are no plans to get electricity here for the next few years. If I succeed in the test, we can get electricity ahead of schedule. If I fail, the country will install it in a few years. You agree, right?”
