Chapter 36 Mid-Autumn Festival 01

Gao Shujing spoke nonsense with a straight face: "Yu Zhiqing is a person with high awareness. She is wholeheartedly raising children. I previously wanted to start with a few children to let Yu Zhiqing see my sincerity."

"After a month of progress, she finally felt at ease leaving the child in my care. But the child suffered this injustice right under my nose, and Yu Zhiqing was so angry that she took the child away."

"If I bring this up with her now, there will be no hope, not even now, not even in the future."

Captain Huang said suspiciously, "It can't be that bad. Yu Zhiqing is very reasonable. If you explain it to her clearly, this misunderstanding will be gone, right?"

Gao Shujing: "The problem is that I only gained Yu Zhiqing's trust before, and I haven't taken that step yet. If she finds out that the reason I'm good to the child is because I like her, will she think that I won't be good to the child anymore after I marry her?"

"You know Yu Zhiqing's character. She is a very responsible person. Once she brings Duofu and the others back, she will raise them well and will not let anyone with ulterior motives get close to the children."

Captain Huang: "You city people are so particular. We country folk can get married after just one blind date, unlike you, who have to spend a lot of time on what, oh, I mean dating, right?"

Gao Shujing: "Different people require different methods. Look at how many girls can do what Yu Zhiqing did."

Captain Huang thought about what Yu Rujia had done. Whether it was her superb medical skills, her courage to confront human traffickers, or her adoption of several children out of wedlock, these were things that ordinary women could not do.

With Captain Huang's intervention, Gao Shujing's house finally quieted down, and even Chen Manman, who used to come over every few days, stopped.

Gao Shujing said he would buy more meat and he really did buy a lot. There were more than ten kilograms of pork alone, a pile of bones, and two sets of pig offal. After cleaning, there were dozens of kilograms.

He rode his self-assembled bicycle back with the meat wrapped tightly in its packaging, so that no one else would have a clue what was inside.

With the Mid-Autumn Festival approaching, many families will buy things to bring home for the holiday. He bought more than usual. As the head of the repair shop, someone who didn't know the details casually asked him a few questions, but didn't find out anything and moved on.

Gao Shujing handed a stack of newspapers to Yu Rujia: "I've retrieved nearly a month's worth of newspapers from the recycling center. Take a look."

Yu Rujia took the newspaper: "Thank you, I'll read it when I get back and bring it back to you."

Gao Shujing: "It doesn't matter whether I send it or not."

Yu Rujia took the newspaper and flipped through it page by page. Sure enough, she found the information she wanted to see. Half a month ago, several newspapers had published articles about traditional Chinese medicine.

The state strongly encourages the study of traditional Chinese medicine and encourages those who have mastered the skills to report to the government, which will arrange their placement based on the actual situation.

For several days in a row, the newspapers carried this news, and traditional Chinese medicine practitioners officially returned to normal professional practice, which put Yu Rujia at ease.

In addition to the cowshed, their family needed a lot of mooncakes, but the ration coupons were hard to come by. Gao Shujing bought flour, sugar, and several kinds of nuts to make five-nut mooncakes himself.

The day before the Mid-Autumn Festival, the whole family went into great lengths.

Gao Shujing was making the five-nut filling in an orderly manner.

Duofu was determined to help, but was assigned the task of mixing the eggs.

The twins gathered around the table, finding everything fascinating and reaching out their little hands, eager to touch it.

Duoxi, who couldn't walk but could crawl fast, was tied with a rope in the shade of the yard and made to play there.

Yu Rujia fed Duolu, who had secretly stuffed flour into his mouth and choked, a sip of water. "Duofu, take your younger brothers out to play for a while. When it's done, your aunt will invite you to eat mooncakes."

Duofu got a new task and was working hard on it when he saw that his younger brother's task had come up. He reluctantly put down the egg beater, his little face down, and grabbed one of them with each hand: "Come on, big brother will take you to play."

The twins were initially reluctant, but after Duofu pulled them over to Duoxi's side, the group quickly rolled around together, not expecting to cause any trouble.

Yu Rujia took over Duofu's egg-beating work, constantly stirring the egg mixture.

Gao Shujing placed the five-nut filling he had made in front of Yu Rujia: "Try it and see how it tastes."

Yu Rujia picked up a pair of chopsticks from the side, took a bite, and sipped it. It was quite fragrant, but a bit too sweet. Thinking this, Yu Rujia said this.

Gao Shujing: "I'll add some more nuts to neutralize it."

The mixed five-nut filling was indeed tastier, and Yu Rujia ate several bites in a row.

Gao Shujing smiled and said, "I'll make a lot and store them away. You can eat them whenever you want. Anyway, these things won't spoil."

Yu Rujia: "Let's fry some peanuts and walnuts. We can grab a handful whenever we want to eat them. They're delicious."

At home, Gao Shujing rarely had to cook. After being assigned to the countryside, he underwent a few days of intensive training, and being intelligent, he achieved good results.

After two months in the countryside, I've gained some experience in cooking every day. The peanuts and walnuts in the five-nut filling are cooked to perfection, which is why Yu Rujia eats several bites of it.

It's good that he can make requests; it means he's one of us. Gao Shujing happily started frying the peanuts in the pan, thinking that when he met Captain Huang, he could exchange some more peanuts with him.

A basket of mooncakes came out of the oven, each about the size of a fist. Yu Rujia gave two mooncakes to Duofu, one for each of the twins, and half a mooncake to Duoxi. The mooncakes were still empty, as he had only grown a few teeth and couldn't chew them properly, so he could only eat the crust to satisfy his craving.

Duolu stuffed the mooncakes into his mouth as soon as he got them, his big eyes narrowed into slits, his little doughy face full of enjoyment, making you want to knead it.

Duo Shou glanced at the two mooncakes Duo Fu had received with his big eyes, then looked at his own. At such a young age, he already knew how to distinguish between more and less: "Auntie, Big Brother gets the same."

Yu Rujia understood what he meant; he wanted as much as Duofu.

Yu Rujia: "No, you're too small. You can only eat one. When you're as big as your older brother, you can eat two."

Duoshou: "I eat two, the same size as my older brother."

Goodness, in his eyes, he is smaller than Duofu because he doesn't eat as much as Duofu. If he ate as much as Duofu, he could grow as big as Duofu.

Duofu happily chewed on the mooncake, and even managed to correct his younger brother's mistake: "You'll have to grow two more years before you're as big as me."

Thinking he had found a breakthrough, Duo Shou raised his little head and looked at Duo Fu with an expectant expression: "How do I grow?"

Duolu smacked her lips quickly, and a mooncake was soon gone. Her big eyes darted around, and seeing that Duofu and Duoshou were still eating, she rubbed her little body against Duoshou's side, just about to take a bite when Duoshou noticed and dodged her.

When they went to look for Duofu again, they found that their older brother was gone.
