Chapter 48 Late at Night, Breaking into the Haunted Lanruo Temple

Chu Yu turned to look at the driver and saw his nervous expression. She simply smiled and said calmly, "Don't worry, uncle, I'm not afraid of ghosts. You can go back now."

After saying that, she walked up the mountain.

Seeing that he couldn't persuade her, the driver sighed, "Why don't young people these days listen to advice? Sigh, they'll regret it if they don't heed the advice of their elders."

He shook his head and drove away.

Chu Yu walked up the mountain. Because the mountain had been haunted recently, there was no one in the mountain after dark, and the forest was quiet and desolate.

Seeing that no one was around, Chu Yu was too lazy to climb up step by step. She took out a flying talisman and used it to fly.

When she flew to the middle of the mountain, she found that the forest was filled with black fog and ghostly energy that blocked out the sun. She could no longer go forward and had to fly down.

After landing, she looked around. All around her was a bamboo forest, dense and lush. A cold wind blew, the leaves rustled, and the cries of various birds and wild animals echoed through the air, giving her a chilling feeling.

The Taoist temple where Chu Yu used to live was also deep in the mountains, so she remained indifferent to this scene.

She took out a flashlight and walked forward. After walking a short distance, she saw an ancient temple deep in the bamboo forest.

The ancient temple was dilapidated, covered with cobwebs, and looked quite old.

Chu Yu arrived at the gate of the ancient temple and looked up to see three large characters written on the plaque: Lanruo Temple.

Lanruo Temple?

This name seems familiar.

She quickly realized that in the movie "A Chinese Ghost Story", Ning Caichen went to Lanruo Temple.

She looked around; the surroundings were eerie and ghostly. A cold wind blew leaves into the ancient temple, giving it a desolate and eerie feel.

If it were an ordinary person, coming to a place like this late at night, they would probably have run away in fright. But Chu Yu was naturally bold. She raised the corner of her mouth, took a flashlight, pushed open the door, and went inside.

Just then, two green lights flashed from the depths of the jungle, as if something was watching her from the shadows.

After Chu Yu entered the ancient temple, he looked around and saw that no one had been there for a long time. The place was covered in dust, and even the Buddha statue in front was covered in dust and cobwebs. It was dim and lacked luster, and it looked somewhat eerie and creepy when viewed with the light of a flashlight.

Chu Yu closed the door. She was a little hungry, her stomach rumbling. She moved a table out from the corner, took out a cup of instant noodles and a bottle of boiling water from her storage bag, and started making the instant noodles.

Before long, the instant noodles were ready, and a fragrant aroma wafted through the air.

She picked up her fork to eat her noodles when suddenly, a loud clap of thunder sounded, and a heavy rain began to fall.

Chu Yu frowned slightly. The sudden downpour was not a good omen.

I had just finished eating my noodles when there was a knock on the door.

Chu Yu put down her fork, looked towards the door, and asked warily, "Who is it?"

A clear male voice came from the doorway: "I'm a tourist. The rain was so heavy that I came here specifically to take shelter from it."

Chu Yu raised an eyebrow. Why would there be tourists in the mountains so late at night? They must be some kind of demons or monsters.

She got up and went to the window. The window was broken and tattered. She looked out through the hole and saw a young man standing in front of the door. The man was wearing a white Hanfu, with long hair draped over his shoulders. He was tall, fair-skinned, and handsome. He was holding an oil-paper umbrella and looked elegant, like a handsome man who had stepped out of an ancient costume drama.

Surprisingly, a handsome man in ancient costume arrived.

The scene from the movie flashed through her mind, and her eyes lit up—a male version of Nie Xiaoqian had appeared.

So is she now using Ning Caichen's script? Could there be a Black Mountain Demon lurking in this forest?

Chu Yu clicked her tongue, feeling a little excited. She returned to her seat and deliberately asked, "Why aren't you going home? What are you doing in the mountains so late at night?"

The man outside the door sighed sadly and said, "I'm from the countryside. My family has always been poor since I was a child. We never had enough to eat or wear. Recently, my father has become addicted to gambling and has lost all the family's money. We don't have money to treat my sick mother. I also lost my job recently and am now in debt."

To make matters worse, my father, in order to pay off his debts, actually sold me to a 70-year-old wealthy woman. She was extremely cruel and often beat me. Left with no other choice, I had to escape. Afraid of being caught by her people, I hid deep in the mountains. Unexpectedly, I got lost in the mountains, and now it's raining, so I had to come here to take shelter from the rain.

After saying that, he took the handkerchief and started sobbing, looking pitiful.

Chu Yu's lips twitched violently. A gambling father, a sick mother, and a broken man—this was too cliché.

Does she seem like someone who is easily fooled?

Chu Yu didn't expose him and continued to play along with his act.

"So that's how it is. But what's wrong with a 70-year-old rich woman? As the saying goes, 'Youth doesn't know the value of a rich woman, mistaking a beautiful woman for a treasure. You don't know the sweetness of a woman's life, wasting your youth. You have good fortune but don't enjoy it, young man, you're just being foolish!'"

The man: "..."

I intended to fabricate a tragic backstory to gain sympathy, but I never expected that people would have such a mindset.

I'm speechless!

He awkwardly retorted, "I don't like old people. Um, may I come in?"

Chu Yu wanted to see what he was up to, so she replied, "Sure, come in."

With her permission, the man closed his umbrella, a strange smile playing on his lips, and pushed open the door, going inside.

Chu Yu gestured for him to sit down opposite her and politely asked, "Handsome guy, what's your name?"

After the man took his seat, he struck an elegant pose: "You can call me Xiao Jun, beautiful lady. What's your name?"

Chu Yu truthfully replied, "My name is Chu Yu."
