Appear

Just as they were preparing to escape with all their might, another great and bright energy suddenly appeared in the house, illuminating the entire room and rivaling the evil aura, each occupying half of the space.

The two energies resisted each other. Although they were on the edge of energy fluctuations, they were still suffering terribly and could only barely stand.

Later, for some unknown reason, after feeling that the dark energy weaken slightly, there was a sudden vibration, and I felt that the dark energy suddenly became stronger.

Chapter Twenty-Two: Shivering

It actually suppressed the golden light so much that they felt as if they were facing a demon from the depths of hell. The strong smell of blood was overwhelming and made them feel nauseous.

A moment later, a beam of golden light shot into the sky and collided directly with the evil energy. Ordinary people could neither see nor feel it, but those who had seen countless ghosts and magical arts were now trembling in fear at the sight of this golden light and that unknown evil aura.

The difference in strength was quickly apparent, with the dazzling golden light seemingly having the upper hand, while the retreating evil aura inexplicably vanished as if it had never existed.

The eerie aura that had initially protected the entire house gradually disappeared. After repelling the evil aura, the golden light trembled and finally vanished abruptly.

Just before it disappeared, the golden light seemed to drift towards them intentionally or unintentionally, startling them so much that they broke out in a cold sweat. Was it a warning or something else? All the energy vanished, leaving only the two of them standing there, staring at each other in bewilderment.

"The initial ghostly aura was clearly that of a thousand-year-old vengeful ghost, but for some reason it seemed to be protecting that kid."

"That's what the middle-aged man said."

The old man nodded in agreement upon hearing this.

"But the golden light that appeared later was clearly a Taoist mantra. I have seen Taoist mantras before. There are Taoists among us. But which Taoist master possesses this energy and this aura?"

"Indeed, there are probably very few people in this world who can draw such a powerful incantation. Although I don't know who he is, I know that if this person is willing, if he wants to kill us in the last move, we will have no chance of escaping."

The middle-aged man felt a lingering fear. He was very confident in his own abilities, but in front of such a powerful figure with divine powers, his confidence was nothing but nonsense.

"That mantra talisman is alright, after all, the relationship between the Taoist sect and our Xuan sect is not bad, since we are both righteous people. But what exactly is that evil energy?" The old man felt cold sweat break out on his back just thinking about that energy. It was real killing intent, endless evil. Even that great figure who was proficient in Taoist magic could only suppress it a little bit.

The thought that their mission was to investigate that ghostly thing made both of them shudder. If it weren't for the appearance of that golden light, they would have been dead.

"A thousand-year-old vengeful ghost, coupled with a suspected Taoist Heavenly Lord, and that unknown evil aura—this is beyond our ability to investigate."

The old man looked at the middle-aged man and said.

"Indeed, even the great master Huineng, who can almost be considered a living miracle doctor, and the shaman Changmen have fallen into this trap. We have been far too overconfident in this matter."

The middle-aged man looked somewhat fearful. This was not supposed to be the two of them investigating the matter, but they were eager to make a contribution, so they volunteered to investigate it.

The old man waved his hand and said, "This is beyond our control. Hurry back and report this to your superiors. Let the research department discuss it first. I guess it's not going to be a problem for the two of us. The next ones to be sent out will probably be those bastards from the United Front Work Department." Speaking of the United Front Work Department, the middle-aged man, who was very confident in his abilities, couldn't help but twitch his eyelids, as if he was very afraid of those people, but also couldn't help but feel a little longing for them.

He took the initiative to apply this time because he wanted to apply for a transfer to the United Front Work Department. He thought this was an opportunity. As long as he could bring back the kid who caused Huineng and Changmen to be imprisoned, he would be able to make a great contribution and then apply for a transfer. However, he did not expect it to be so troublesome. Compared to being transferred to the United Front Work Department, his own life was more important.

Just thinking about this, the middle-aged man snorted coldly. If he went back like this, those people from the United Front Work Department would probably make sarcastic remarks again.

Those people in the United Front Work Department are all arrogant and conceited. Some even think that the organization doesn't need a propaganda department or a research department at all, and that the United Front Work Department is enough. This makes him feel very uncomfortable in the propaganda department, but he has to admit the strength of those people. That's why he wants to be transferred to the United Front Work Department.

"Speaking of which, even Master Ma lost a hand because of this kid. It's said that he's still in the research department getting his hand reattached!" The old man seemed to see what he was thinking. After speaking, he patted the boy's shoulder and then walked back. The old man didn't have so many thoughts. He felt that although he couldn't bring him back this time, he was already lucky enough.

The middle-aged man glanced at the small house in the distance again, seemingly resentful. He stomped his foot hard, creating several cracks in the ground, then turned and disappeared with the old man.

The Xuanpai is composed of the other Xuanmen sects in the world, and includes a wide variety of categories. It is a unified unit under the state, with subordinate departments that specialize in investigating all kinds of paranormal events.

The Xuanpai sect includes monks, Taoist priests, and various yin-yang masters, shamans, and the like.
