When I reached out to touch it, there was nothing there, and it quickly returned to normal without any abnormalities.
I pulled open my clothes and found that the ghostly hand was still there, as if it were imprinted on my body, only the color seemed a little lighter. Maybe it was just my imagination. I shook my head and thought to myself, "Strange," and pretended that nothing had happened, and continued running home.
We arrived at my doorstep quickly. I looked around and it seemed like nothing had happened, so I breathed a sigh of relief. I quickly opened the door and saw Shui Yanling standing there, staring at me with her big, watery eyes.
I felt a pang of guilt; I had left her here alone for so many days.
But seeing that she was safe and sound put my mind at ease. If I let such a vulnerable woman get hurt because of me, I would be a terrible person.
"You're finally back. You haven't called or anything for so many days. I thought something had happened to you."
"No, I've been on a business trip recently and I'm very busy. I didn't want you to worry, so I didn't call you."
"Silly girl, you're my fiancé! If I don't worry about you, who will I worry about? If you don't call, wouldn't I be even more worried?" Seeing Shui Yanling like this, my heart almost melted. I secretly vowed to protect her.
But when I think about the problems that have happened to me, I'm afraid that they might affect her.
"What's wrong with this jade pendant?" Shui Yanling suddenly asked, looking at the jade pendant in my hand. Then she reached out to grab my hand to look at the shattered jade pendant tied to the red string on my wrist.
But when she grabbed my arm, she touched my wound, and my hand involuntarily recoiled.
"What happened to your hand? Are you alright? Let me see."
"It's nothing serious, I just accidentally bumped into it."
"I don't believe it," she said, reaching for my sleeve.
I didn't want her to see me like this, so I pulled my hand back.
"Don't move," Shui Yanling commanded me in an undeniable tone.
I had no choice but to stand still and let her pull up my sleeve.
Seeing my arm completely wrapped up, her eyes welled up with tears, and she looked pitiful.
"It's okay, it doesn't hurt at all."
I comforted her; how could I bear to make such a kind girl sad?
"You're lying, how could such a big wound not hurt?" Shui Yanling gently touched my arm and muttered softly.
I smiled and held her hand, saying, "If I could eat the food you cook for me, maybe I'd feel better after a good night's sleep."
"Really?" Shui Yanling looked up at me with her big, watery eyes and then smiled. "Then I'll go make you something delicious right away."
After saying "Mmm," she immediately went to the kitchen and started cooking.
Watching Shui Yanling's retreating figure as she headed towards the kitchen, he felt a deep sense of guilt. Meeting such a wonderful girl must have been a blessing from his past life.
But now I'm facing this situation myself. Not only are the people around me in danger, but I might not live much longer either.
While she was cooking, I lay down on the bed to rest for a while. Looking at the jade pendant on my hand and feeling the warmth emanating from it, I felt more and more that this was no ordinary jade pendant and must have some important connection with the ghost hand on my body.
Thinking about this, this was the token of love between me and Shui Yanling. Not only did I lose my own, but she gave me hers.
Now that she's been made to look like this, she'll have to apologize to her properly later. Besides, Shui Yanling values this token of their love very much.
It's a pity I lost my jade pendant, otherwise I might not have encountered so many unpleasant things.
Speaking of that jade pendant, I've carried it with me since I was a child, it seems like it's been like that since I can remember.
I asked my maternal grandfather before, and he said it seemed to be something left to me by my parents, and that I must take good care of it.
Could the ghost hand be related to my parents? I've never seen my parents since I can remember; my grandfather raised me. If my parents are related to this damned ghost hand, then who are my parents? I lay in bed pondering these questions, my mind a jumbled mess, my consciousness slowly fading until I drifted off to sleep.
Chapter Nineteen: Feeling Panicked
I don't know where I am. It's as if I'm standing on a vast golden sea. There's no wind, no horizon, just a boundless ocean.
"Hey, is anyone there?" I called out, but no one answered. My voice spread out like waves, without causing the slightest ripple.
What kind of place is this? I look at this vast ocean and for some reason, I feel fear and panic here.
Suddenly, a black bubble appeared on the sea in front of me, then two, three, four... I slowly backed away, staring at that spot. More and more bubbles appeared, and I became more and more nervous.
Beneath the surface of the sea where the black bubbles appeared, something seemed to be struggling to emerge from the depths.
At that moment, the black hand on my chest was in excruciating pain, as if it were about to come to life and crush my heart.
The pain forced me to kneel on the sea surface. My eyes were bloodshot. This time, the ghostly hand's movements were more intense than ever before. Darkness finally emerged from the seabed. I don't know how to describe it. In the words of a shaman, it was "a mass of black, nothing but black, without end, with no end in sight."
