Chapter 552

"Are you ready over there? Don't let anyone find out."

Sherry was currently leaning against the chimney on the roof of the house to the left. Her slender figure was enveloped in the night and the refracting curtain of wind, so even if someone were looking closely, they wouldn't notice the girl's presence. After everything was settled, she confirmed, "Okay, no problem. The enemy will be here soon too."

Philsa looked up at the night sky. A bright, clear moon hung in the empty night. "Yes, it's almost here. The time is very close to the time indicated in the 'murder notice' sent by the enemy."

The dark hem of his robe swayed in the night wind on the rooftop and beside the chimney to the right. Felsa, also enveloped in the wind, blended into the darkness. The two men, positioned on the rooftops to the left and right of the battlefield, monitored the impending battle.

“By the way,” came Shirley’s clear voice, slightly mischievous and playful, from the earring Philsa used for long-distance communication, “which side do you think will win?”

Philsa glanced down at the battlefield. It was located on the street in front of the Adventurers' Guild. The deserted street was about thirty meters wide, paved with stone bricks. Surrounding the battlefield on both sides were two-story, sloping-roofed houses belonging to civilians, and the two men's observation post was situated within this area. Of course, unrelated residents had been evacuated. The bright moonlight fortunately shone upon this temporarily peaceful clearing.

“What do you think?” Philsa asked in return, already having a plan in mind.

“I’m not good at analyzing war situations,” Shirley’s voice sounded a little awkward. “However, the client has three people on their side, while the enemy should only have one.”

“That’s right. So it seems all we need to do is keep watch. As for fighting, we don’t need to do that. The client really overthought things by hiring us this time. Those guys down there should be enough. Besides,” Philsa smiled through the communication earring.

"Besides?" Shirley asked, puzzled.

"Even if those three lose, they still have backup—my friend—'Dragon Knight' Seris, who is still waiting in the Adventurers' Guild. He won't be defeated so easily."

"I see. Then we can go home earlier tonight."

"I hope so." However, Philsa still harbored doubts and anxieties about the enemy's strength. Philsa knew perfectly well about their own strength, but they had no idea who the enemy was or how strong they were. This was the main factor affecting the outcome of the battle.

One thing is very clear: that person is an assassin who sends out advance notice.

"They're here." Sherry's urgent warning came through the earring.

Five minutes before encountering the enemy in the street below Philsa and Sherry.

"No problem, there's only one person on the other side!" The captain wiped his beloved sword with a silk cloth, making it gleam brilliantly, its sharp blade absorbing the pure white moonlight. Then he casually tossed the cloth aside, letting it sway away in the wind.

“Let me explain the tactics first,” the archer sitting on the ground said calmly, picking up a stone from the roadside to use as a chess piece to illustrate the tactics, and drawing a vertical line on the ground. Then he placed two stones closest to the line, and the last stone behind them.

"You two—swordsman Sink and knight Reina—will be the vanguard; and I will support you from the rear! The knight and swordsman will handle close combat, while the archer will provide support and distraction from the rear. Reina can also use area-of-effect magic when necessary. This is a versatile strategy that is effective against any enemy."

“Archer, no problem!” Lena replied to the archer.

“‘Assassins’ can conceal themselves and then launch a sneak attack. Anyone capable of doing that must be less skilled in close combat than the two of us; and if we were to launch a sneak attack, Archer would be there to protect us from a distance and warn us,” Sink analyzed.

"Absolutely foolproof! So now all we have to do is wait for him to arrive."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

A sinister whirlwind swept across the battlefield. On the flat ground thirty meters away from the three, a mysterious shadow loomed faintly in the mist.

It was a blurry figure, too indistinct to be clearly seen. The entire body, including the face, was shrouded in a darkness even more profound than the night itself.

From above, Philsa witnessed the entire process of the enemy appearing and disappearing. "Visitors of the Night..." Even though he was outside the battlefield, he unconsciously gripped his weapon tighter. "How's it going, Sherry? Can you see clearly from your side?"

"Hmm, not bad. But what's wrapped around him?"

“That’s a secret spell used to confuse the enemy’s vision. In the absence of light, it turns the caster into a shadow. And the moonlight just happened to be blocked by the suddenly gathered dark clouds. Who is this enemy, Sherry? Use Eagle Eye to take a look.”

“Understood.” Sherry, unnoticed by anyone, unleashed her magic and attached it to her green eyes. Within her vision, everything and everyone transformed into a clear, pale green. She could discern who had used magic, and even see through the magical runes covering their true forms.
