Chapter 573

On the bustling street, magic crystal ornaments that shimmer with seven-colored light are hung everywhere, and exquisitely crafted, dazzling candles are scattered in front of the newly opened shops.

In a square, a group of people danced a festive dance around a huge bonfire.

The leaping shadows were cast on the ground and illuminated the night sky, frolicking and reveling along with the flickering firelight.

Invited by some of them, the boy and girl naturally joined in. Priscilla took Alphonse's hand, and they became a pair in the dance troupe.

Immersed in this joyous scene, Priscilla even pulled Alphonse away from the original group and danced a noble royal dance with him.

The plain-colored feather robe fluttered in the wind, contrasting beautifully with the fire.

The two were greeted with enthusiastic applause from the crowd.

The light and graceful steps of the young girl and the adorably clumsy movements of the young boy quickly became the talk of the town at the square dance extravaganza.

Alphonse thought to himself, "Priscilla, being a noblewoman, is really having a great time among these ordinary people."

Having confirmed three things, Priscilla enjoyed herself immensely and felt completely at ease.

First, she noticed that the Black Knight, Ray, who had always been protecting her, was watching over her from a high place not far away.

Secondly, she truly experienced the joy of travel and understood its true meaning. These experiences and insights cannot be gained from the words in a book.

Furthermore, she firmly believed that she had personally witnessed the magnificent kingdom of Valentino, and that it was not a fabrication. Alphonse was surely overthinking things this time.

Yes, that's right. Tonight, the scene in Shidu is arguably the grandest on the entire continent.

This final night, the last night of the once-prosperous Wominbeur during the kingdom's reign, will be remembered in history as a tragedy.

Such a glorious moment, even though the next second would bring the opening of the gates of destruction, has been recorded in history by historians with calm and objective words.

Alphonse, who was dancing with the people, vaguely heard a strange scream in the midst of the fun, but it was quickly drowned out by the singing of the others.

Just now, a commoner, like a headless fly, staggered toward the center and threw himself into the huge, blazing fire in front of him.

That's right—this person doesn't have a head;

To be precise, he had lost his head, and even the artery in his neck that had just been severed was still spurting blood.

Despite this, his mutilated body continued to walk as if nothing had happened, until he stepped into the fire, causing the group to gasp in astonishment.

Every step the headless man took left behind blood-stained, crooked footprints.

These footprints and the ashes flickering in the firelight are the last traces of his existence.

"What...what exactly is going on?"

Priscilla, who had been enjoying herself and feeling perfectly at ease just moments before, was stunned into silence by the bloody scene.

Just as he was about to wake the stunned Priscilla, Alphonse noticed someone patting him on the shoulder.

Turning around, she realized it was the same uncle who had enthusiastically invited her to join the dance earlier, and she exclaimed in a well-meaning but trembling voice, "Watch out! There's something here..."

Unexpectedly, before Alphonse could finish speaking, the mutated man opened his gaping maw, which was full of sharp teeth.

The man's body suddenly became incredibly strong and huge, even comparable in size to a bear-like monster;

The clothes were torn, revealing a dark limb that was more than half covered in mane.

He pounced on Alphonse with the brute force of a wild beast, excitedly flexing the muscles around his mouth to reveal his bloodied fangs, ready to devour his prey. This sudden turn of events caused the boy to struggle desperately, but he was still firmly pinned down and unable to move.

Alphonse, who had given up on the futile struggle and was preparing to die, was suddenly startled by the monster's screams.

As he trembled and opened his eyes, blood blossomed right before his eyes, dark red drops of blood splattering onto his face and even into his pupils.

The monster, which wanted to devour its companion, was struck in the head by Priscilla from afar with an arrow highly concentrated with wind magic.

He immediately lost the ability to move and, in doing so, lost his life.

Priscilla stepped forward and helped the still-shaken Alphonse to his feet. "Hey, are you alright?"

At the same time, the demonic aura was dense. As if responding to a master's command, numerous shadowy demonic wings fluttered in the night sky.

From high above came strange cries and the sound of forceful wing flapping;

The stench of blood, which had already spread to this place, was overwhelming from afar.

Priscilla also noticed the monsters that were constantly surrounding her, and... humans who were showing signs of mutation.

They can no longer be categorized as "human"; it is not an exaggeration to call them walking corpses.

Thieves and assassins lurking in the shadows laughed wildly, using evil illusions to manipulate the already dead masses and attack the two young men.

They were constantly trapped in the clutches of demons and enemies. The treasures they coveted were also in their grasp, and they could not escape.

How could she possibly escape? Priscilla looked around, pondering the question.

She inadvertently caught a glimpse of Alphonse's resolute eyes, and he seemed to understand a deeper meaning hidden behind this dramatic change.

“Priscilla…it’s dangerous here.”

"I know, but... anyway, come with me first."

Priscilla first gathered her magic power and released a huge but invisible wind wall to block the mutated demon approaching from the front.
