Chapter 579

As he finished his routine sign-in, someone patted him hard on the shoulder.

"Kid!"

“Oh, Marquis.” Startled, Philsa greeted the Marquis again.

Philsa guessed correctly; the Marquis had just been asking the guild members about the Flame Demon who had severely injured the Obsidian Knight. No wonder he looked so serious.

"Are Lampard and Olina doing well? I feel really guilty, I was with them before we entered the Forest of Trees, and then we separated."

The marquis comforted the young man, saying that injury is also a form of experience, a kind of training. Besides, they had both fully recovered and were already on another mission.

Philsa put on a relieved expression.

Then the Marquis, unusually restless, thought, "I really want to meet that demon general who controls fire. He actually managed to severely injure my two disciples..."

This enemy is connected to the history of the kingdom—Firsa wanted to tell the Marquis this clue, but didn't know where to begin.

Regarding the kingdom's history, he recalled some strange occurrences, which aroused his suspicions.

"By the way, I wanted to ask about the 'Time Capital Riot.' Were there any monsters that appeared at the time? Or were there other evildoers?"

"All the mutations were caused by the Tower of Reversal."

This statement startled Philsa. Not for any other reason than that her memories from the dream had already told her that this was nothing but the nonsense of an ignorant scholar.

The Marquis, oblivious to his thoughts, continued explaining, "What truly plunged Shidu into chaos were massive monsters, like ferocious demons. They appeared in large numbers and attacked Shidu as if by prior arrangement, and tragically, no one survived. Furthermore, no one committed any evil deeds; if there were, they would have all perished in the monster attack." Alex asserted with certainty.

"What evidence do you have?"

"The remains of monsters. We found a large number of monster remains in the capital. They were probably the monsters that the residents managed to kill while fighting them. I still have evidence."

Philsa remained silent, shocked.

"However, the first detailed description of monsters in history appears in Lord Elfons' southern expedition. From this, we can infer that some mysterious things happened in the capital at that time."

Philsa was somewhat displeased. "Oh, I see."

Why would you ask that?

Philsa said he learned about it from some obscure, unofficial historical books.

Finally, the Marquis vowed to continue his investigation as a historical researcher.

Thus, the two ended their long discussion about history.

"There's another banquet here tonight. I think you can take this opportunity to meet more nobles to improve your future connections," the Marquis hinted to the young man before him.

Philsa politely declined, saying, "My injuries haven't healed yet, so I dare not drink too much. Besides, I heard from my companions that Silverwing seems to have issued a summons, and I may have to leave Lefrem soon." He used this as an excuse to avoid the issue.

The Marquis tried to persuade her to stay, but Philsa turned to look at the clock next to the counter and realized that the meeting time with Sherry had already passed.

He stood up. “My companions are waiting for me; if I don’t leave now, I’ll be late. Farewell, Marquis. I hope you enjoy the banquet.”

Philsa retrieved his hat from the wall, bowed to the Marquis, and turned to leave.

He pulled his hat down low and left in a hurry.

Hoping to glean any useful information from the Marquis proved nearly impossible. He was one of those who buried history.

The emblem told itself that any descriptions that did not match its dream memories were false, fabricated by human hands.

As for why he did this, Firsa doesn't know the reason yet; perhaps it's to bury some unsavory "truths."

Perhaps he was just overthinking things; the Marquis was actually an innocent person kept in the dark.

But no matter how you look at it, something seems off.

The Marquis explained this history with remarkable decisiveness.

To exaggerate a bit, it's as if you actually saw it with your own eyes. Furthermore, some details were "fully" concealed and disguised.

As Philsa hurried away, she bumped into someone at the door.

"I'm sorry... Oh, it's Sherry." Seeing that it was a fellow traveler, Philsa skipped the apology.

“My nose…” Shirley touched her nose, which had been bumped hard by Philsa like a headless fly. It was incredibly itchy. She then covered it, her voice sounding like she had a cold, “So what if it was me? Do I deserve to be bumped by you…”

Their next destination was the former headquarters of the Silver Knights, the old site of the kingdom formerly known as "Eagle Palace".

Since the beginning of the Holy Stone Age, it has been designated as an important royal ruin by the Duchy, standing in the center of the desert near Lefrem.

There are actually not many tourists visiting, all because of the large desert area surrounding the ruins.

The arduous journey deters many tourists from visiting.

Philsa and Sherry had been trekking towards the ruins of the Falcon Palace for almost half a day. Soon, the sky would be stained with the false darkness of night due to the arrival of the Demon Sea tide.

However, before that, the sun was still incredibly strong. The air seemed to radiate intense heat.

The young man blamed himself for his serious mistake. But then again, didn't it only take Elphons four hours to travel from the capital to the Eagle Palace back then?
