A rustling sound came from behind Haruja. Seris, alert, grabbed the weapon lying beside him.
Several figures running came into view.
It turned out to be those same townspeople from Lefrem from today.
Judging from their panicked appearance, it seems that nothing good has happened.
"Knight! We've finally found you..."
The townspeople followed the light from the campfire and went to great lengths to find the two.
Seris put down the half-eaten cooked catfish and asked seriously what had happened.
"Human-faced demons...they..."
"Are they attacking you again?" Seris exclaimed.
“No, no, to be precise, that’s not the case…” another town resident explained.
Just as the tide of the demonic sea receded and the moon emerged from the darkness, a horrifying anomaly occurred in Lefrem.
A seemingly normal male pedestrian, who was taking a walk on a dark road, suddenly roared at the moon without warning, and his body began to swell violently.
The people who were still on the road at the time witnessed him transform from a living human being into a ferocious human-faced demon.
Finally, the passerby was left with only a human face, his body covered in brown fur, and he let out a terrifying roar from his mouth full of sharp teeth, making him almost indistinguishable from a demon.
Before anyone else could escape, the demonized human began attacking those around him.
To date, this has resulted in several injuries and deaths.
"Humans can actually turn into human-faced demons?" This was the first time Seris had heard such an unbelievable thing, but it didn't sound untrue.
He instructed the townspeople, "Have all the townspeople of Lefrem take refuge in the church or other safe places. I'm coming right now!"
He then turned to Haruja and instructed him, "This mission is quite dangerous, so you should stay here and wait for me to return."
His companion nodded obediently.
"Don't worry, we'll keep an eye on this little girl! As for coming to Frem... we'll leave it to you!" One of them seemed to have suffered a serious injury, and he collapsed to his knees, supported by the people around him.
He said this, pleading with them.
"Uncle, why don't you rest here for a bit?"
Seris quickly put on his helmet and armor, had someone lead the way, and ran as fast as he could to the attacked town.
Fifteen minutes later, as he arrived at the town's entrance, he saw a strange figure swaying in the moonlight atop the tallest building in town. It was excitedly gnawing on something.

Another middle-aged town resident ran out from the roadside and announced, "Knight, all the residents in the vicinity have been evacuated!"
"Okay, I understand. Please move to another safe place. I'm going to start hunting it!"
Seris skillfully wielded the short gun, the shaft constantly rotating between his palms, leaving trails of blade light as he released the dragon's demonic energy.
A purple whirlwind rose before everyone's eyes, and after the whirlwind passed, the dragon rider's figure disappeared from the spot.
They looked up and saw that the swift figures of the dragoons had already leaped over the rooftops to chase their prey.
Today's situation is not due to my negligence, but because the human-faced demon had already lurked in the town, waiting for the opportunity to prey on humans.
Damn it, if I had been more careful and put in more effort to come and check Frem, I might have been able to find their trail.
The human-faced demon under the moon noticed someone jumping onto the roof and chasing after it, so it stopped eating and threw the food at the pursuer before nimbly turning around and jumping off the building.
Seris dodged the thrown object with a sideways movement.
A human corpse, its face grotesquely gnawed away, swept past. This made Seris's heart tighten. The sacred dragon's aura emanating from him intensified, surrounding him.
Similarly, after leaping down from the height and reaching the ground, the deep purple figure of Seris strode swiftly along the straight road, chasing the fleeing four-legged monster like a dragon.
Several corpses, devoured by monsters, lay scattered haphazardly on both sides of the street.
It must be killed as soon as possible, otherwise it will cause more casualties.
The target demon disappeared around the corner ahead. Seris advanced until it vanished, then abruptly stopped, cautiously glancing around.
Suddenly, demonic energy appeared from the left. Seris raised his gun with both hands in a defensive stance to block the sudden, fierce bite attack.
What caught the dragon riders completely off guard was the sudden, violent surge of demonic energy emanating from behind them—
Another human-faced demon clamped its claws around his shoulders, its sharp teeth biting at his face. Seris's helmet rattled as it was chewed.
In his struggle, Seris uttered a spell.
"Magic, unleash—"
The emblem on the arm turned bright red at the owner's will, revealing a dragon's head through the deep purple arm armor.
In an instant, a burst of fiery magic erupted from the dragon rider's body, instantly engulfing the two demons that were clinging to him, and burning them into charred corpses that could no longer move, lying on the ground.
On the main street that the dragoon was facing, three more human-faced demons were spotted crawling closer, emitting deep growls.
However, something else surprised him—there seemed to be fewer bodies lying on the ground than before.
