(Alphonse Chapter)
Kingdom of Valentino, Alchemy Era 133...
The ancient books do indeed record the experiences of the Silver Knights after they were exiled to the north by the late king's dying wish.
However, the author used only the vocabulary and grammar commonly used at the time, and given the scarcity of surviving materials, modern scholars face numerous difficulties in interpreting the book.
In the "Chronicle of Kings" written by Marquis Alex, this period of the Silver Knights is translated and explained as follows: "The more factual account is that Lord Alphonse accepted the generous rewards and titles, and from then on, he harbored ambitions to secretly expand the Silver Knights' military strength and prepare his army, already planning to become the second king of Valentino."
Soon after, news of the late king's death spread from the palace. As the royal army mourned with the people, they also suspected that it might be the work of Lord Alphonse.
History seems to show that Alphonse, dissatisfied with the kingdom's tyranny, attempted a coup, the first step of which was to send someone to infiltrate the former king's bedroom and assassinate him.
Lord Alphonse thus became enemies with Priscilla...
To evade public scrutiny and secretly plan the next steps of the coup, Lord Alphonse, taking advantage of his discord with Van Rexor, decided to temporarily withdraw from the suspicious gaze of the masses and lead his army north. Sure enough, five years later, Lord Alphonse led his army in a fierce attack on the capital.
This view is widely accepted.
Lord Elfons's contribution in overthrowing the kingdom's tyrannical regime and turning a new page in the history of the continent of Valentino is undeniable.
Therefore, despite the somewhat shady methods he used to overthrow the regime, he was ultimately crowned a "hero".
However, historical facts present a completely different picture from this claim.
Indeed, the historical facts are completely consistent with the objective descriptions in ancient books.
However, the subjective interpretations it presents differ from historical facts.

The ancient continent of Valentino had a very clear dividing line between its north and south flanks, which was also a geographical boundary line agreed upon by local farmers and was called the "Ukiles Line".
The origin of this dividing line is not without basis.
Once you cross this natural barrier formed by the continuous mountain range and reach the other side, and walk a short distance further, through the mysterious forest that separates the hot and cold seasons, you will clearly feel the sudden drop in temperature and the unusual weather.
A few hours ago, the Silver Knights crossed this natural barrier and arrived in the true north. For Alphonse, it should be described as "returning to the north."
They passed through some scattered villages along the way, but did not go in or disturb them.
Peeking through the outer wooden fence used to protect against wild animals, the house appeared to be very small, probably only big enough for two or three people.
The roof is conical and very low; thatch is piled irregularly on the outside of the house, seemingly to block gaps and protect against wind and cold.
From near to far from the village, the calls of birds are rarely heard, and no one is seen going out. It seems that this place is very poor, let alone developed.
These scenes of decay reminded the soldiers of the desolate southern border they had traversed during their past campaigns.
At this point, the Silver Army finally experienced true winter cold.
The soldiers, who had always lived in the south, had never experienced such freezing weather. They shivered and their marching began to falter.
Compared to the temporary cold weather that Alphonse created in the canyon, the soldiers are experiencing a real, continuous, and endless winter today.
At the same time, their faces were also covered in frost—not the frost from the snow on their faces and helmets, but also the frost in their hearts.
They were furious and disheartened, as their most prized possession—honor—had been stripped away by a single decree from the former king.
The phrase "exiled to Baiyin" wiped out all the previous achievements, just when the name "Baiyin Hao" was already widely known.
Just as his father was dying, rumors began circulating in the palace that Elphons was plotting a coup.
Without solid evidence, Priscilla refused to believe it, nor did she believe that such evidence could overturn the truth.
She believed from the bottom of her heart that Alphonse was definitely not a hypocrite who plotted to usurp the throne.
So she resolutely left the palace and followed the Silver Army to the north.
At first, Priscilla kept blaming Alphonse and was very puzzled by his silence, wondering why he didn't refute these rumor-mongers.
Each time he faced this question, Alphonse would just smile and give a vague, perfunctory reply: "I was originally planning to return to my hometown—the North."
"Why don't you want to stay in the capital?" The capital, Gransis, is the stronghold of nobles and the area where Princess Priscilla can wield great power.
There, even a lowly soldier could enjoy wealth and luxury if he were with the princess.
Moreover, the capital city has a large number of elite warriors who have received formal training. She believes that if Elphons spars with them and trains with them, he will improve day by day and become the kingdom's number one knight in just a few years.
The strongest knight paired with the most beautiful princess, guarding the kingdom together—that would be the most wonderful outcome.
But Alphonse ignored all of this. He could freely enter and leave the palace without hindrance as long as Priscilla allowed it.
But he rarely lingered in the palace. Each time he met her, he would leave in a hurry, not caring about power or status, nor associating with powerful warriors. He would simply return to the dilapidated palace of the Silver Knights.
What exactly is in his mind? Ice and snow?
Inside the carriage, Priscilla thought about these depressing thoughts again and gradually fell asleep, leaning against the upright pillow.
