Chapter 593

Wen Chang unconsciously clenched her fists, suddenly recalling a sentence Qin Ziyan had said long ago, "You only know him as gentle and refined, with outstanding demeanor, but have you ever seen him patiently maneuvering and tenderly showing affection?" Now, she had indeed seen him patiently maneuvering and tenderly showing affection, but as her mother said, what separated her and Mu Yan was not only the difference in status, but also tens of thousands of years of experience. When she first met Mu Yan, there was Qin Ziyan between them. Even though it was just a move by Mu Yan, she still held a grudge for a long time. After returning to the heavens, she had no idea how many people had entered his world in these tens of thousands of years, and where she was. There is a saying that is very true: it is better not to know some things, but once you know them, you can't pretend that nothing happened.

Seeing that they were about to leave, and fearing that they might turn around and find her eavesdropping, she hurriedly retreated behind a clump of low flowering trees. Turning around, she realized there was a pond behind her, leaving her nowhere to go. She could only crouch there, hoping the Emperor would simply walk away unnoticed. Just as she was listening intently, a rustling sound came from the side of the trees, and a figure in white darted in, bumping into her. Both were startled. Before Wen Chang could speak, the woman in white covered his mouth, gesturing for him to be quiet. The footsteps outside grew closer, and the woman in white simply pulled Wen Chang down into the pond with a splash. Wen Chang thought to himself that the sound of falling into the water was far louder than the noise from behind the trees; even if he hadn't been noticed before, someone would inevitably come after him. Looking up, she found herself surrounded by a canopy of lotus leaves. The area around the Jade Pool was always densely covered with green lotus leaves, which now served as a perfect shading. Through a single lotus leaf, she heard Mu Yan's voice from not far away: "Long time no see, how have you been?"

"Not bad." It was a somewhat indifferent male voice. "You've been doing quite well lately."

"Yes, there is indeed such good news."

"I've heard about it—but I never imagined that someone like you would be unable to overcome the bond of love."

"Likewise."

Two voices, one cold and clear, the other warm and gentle, seemed quite familiar with each other. Wen Chang pricked up his ears, wanting to hear who was chatting with Mu Yan, but there was no sound. After a moment, the woman in white beside him leaned out first, looked around, and, seeing that the person had left, used her strength to climb up the bank. Then she reached out and pulled Wen Chang up as well.

"I'm sorry, I dragged you into this too." She apologized first, her slender eyebrows framed by almond-shaped eyes, and a vibrant phoenix feather flower adorned her forehead.

"It's okay, I'm hiding from people anyway." Wen Chang stuck out his tongue and made a face.

"Oh, you're hiding from someone too? Who is it? Could it be Emperor Donghua as well?" The woman in white's expression shifted.

"Emperor Donghua?" Wen Chang paused for a moment, guessing that the person he had just been chatting with Mu Yan was probably the Emperor Donghua she was talking about, so he shook his head, "No, it's the other one, Emperor Taihao."

"Oh." The woman in white nodded, her expression immediately softening. She stood up, shook her clothes, grabbed her wet hair in her hands, twisted it a few times, and shook it before smiling at Wen Chang. "My name is Feng Jiu, Bai Feng Jiu from Qingqiu."

Although Wen Chang didn't often travel to the Heavenly Realm, he knew that Qingqiu was inhabited by the Nine-Tailed Fox Clan, and that the current Crown Princess of the Heavenly Clan, the High Goddess Bai Qian, was from Qingqiu. This woman in white was from Qingqiu and had the surname Bai, so she was probably a princess from the Qingqiu Emperor's family. However, the woman before him had no airs of a princess at all and was very approachable, so he smiled slightly and said, "I am Wen Chang. Wen Chang from the Huaxu Kingdom."

“Wenchang…Wenchang…” Feng Jiu frowned and thought for a moment, then suddenly exclaimed as if she had realized something, “You are the little goddess that Emperor Taihao fell in love with. I’ve heard my aunt mention you.”

Wen Chang was speechless for a moment, not expecting that he had become so famous in the Heavenly Realm.

"Then why were you hiding there just now?" Feng Jiu asked curiously. Before she could answer, she added, "Were you also forced by the Emperor, feeling that it was a tragic fate, and wishing you could hide in a hole when you saw him?" She seemed to have thought of her own experience, and gave her a look of sympathy.

Wen Chang looked at her with a dark expression, paused for a moment, and then said casually, "It's nothing, I just saw him chatting over there and didn't want to disturb him."

"I understand." Feng Jiu nodded.

This was the first meeting between the young emperors and empresses of the Eastern Emperor and the Taihao Emperor, and it could only be described as a rather disheveled encounter. However, it was precisely because of this rare moment of disarray that their relationship suddenly grew closer. When they met again at the grand ceremony on the Jade Terrace in the Nine Heavens, they smiled at each other and naturally huddled together.

"You don't look very happy," Feng Jiu said, looking at Wen Chang, who was engrossed in eating.

"I'm so happy! There's so much delicious food." Wen Chang casually picked up a jade crystal shrimp dumpling. "Look, this is something I've always loved. It's so delicious—" Her words suddenly trailed off, and the shrimp dumpling she was holding fell to the ground. Her gaze was fixed on the distance. Feng Jiu followed her gaze and saw Emperor Taihao chatting with a group of celestial officials. In this grand spectacle, the most eye-catching figure was a fairy in crimson robes standing beside him. The Emperor wore his signature gentle smile, nodding occasionally as if listening attentively. The fairy in crimson spoke softly, her expression gentle and graceful, her bearing extraordinary. The two of them stood together, and they actually looked quite well-matched. Feng Jiu nodded knowingly. "That's Princess Yuzhi, the third princess of the Queen Mother of the West. I'm not being nosy, but I've heard that the Heavenly Emperor intends to act as matchmaker for her, to arrange her marriage with Emperor Taihao. However, the Emperor has always been indifferent to such matters and has refused several times."
