The family smoked for almost half an hour, using several handfuls of thorny sesame seeds. My hands were a little sore from all the smoking. I let out a long sigh and said, "Okay, get up. It should be fine now."
After I finished speaking, I walked to the deceased's side, reached out and gently closed his eyes and mouth.
The family, ignoring their pain, thanked me profusely and offered to take me out for a meal. I didn't stand on ceremony; I was already hungry anyway, so I sat down and started eating.
During the meal, the two men were extremely attentive, subtly implying that they wanted me to help them find an auspicious burial site, promising me benefits if I ever became successful.
I answered vaguely while eating and drinking. By the time I finished eating, it was almost evening, so I immediately said goodbye and left. Before I left, the family repeatedly asked me to come back the next day.
Of course, I verbally agreed, took a red bill, and also put two packs of Zhonghua cigarettes in my pocket.
I had drunk a bit too much and was walking unsteadily. This family was going to drive me home, but I declined. They said, "He who eats another's food is bound to do his bidding," and I figured they would definitely come looking for me again.
If I were to take the main road back, it would probably take an hour. Seeing that it was getting late, I decided to take a shortcut and go home via the mountain road. Suddenly, thunder rumbled in the sky, and dark clouds gathered instantly, as if a thunderstorm was about to break out. The sky darkened.
Seeing that we still had to cross a mountain to reach our destination, we decided to find a place to take shelter from the rain.
There happened to be a cliff in front of me, part of which had been hollowed out. It should be fine to take shelter from the rain, so I quickly ran over. Suddenly, a dark shadow darted out in front of me and bumped into me.
It nearly knocked me to the ground, startling me and sobering me up a bit. Upon closer inspection, I was astonished to discover that the creature that bumped into me was actually a yellow weasel, about the size of a stray dog. Its fur was shiny, and it was staring at me, its small eyes gleaming eerily.
He immediately realized something was wrong; this was definitely a cunning yellow rat. He had heard from the older generation that there were cunning yellow rats in the mountains, and his grandfather had once encountered a cunning dog-rat.
The yellow rat that had become a spirit was very evil. Just like in folk tales, it could bewitch people's minds. I only glanced at it, but I immediately looked away and pretended to be nonchalant as I walked to the foot of the cliff to take shelter from the rain.
The yellow rat vanished like a ghost.
Thunder rumbled in the sky, but no rain fell. Dark clouds rolled in, making the sky grow darker and darker, and a strong wind picked up. Just as I was considering whether to run back, I heard a sound like animals fighting in front of me.
Curious, I followed the sound and saw an unbelievable scene: on the hillside ahead, there was a new grave that had been dug up by two black wild dogs.
To my surprise, three more yellow rats, about the size of wild dogs, surrounded us, glaring at each other and ready to attack.
Nine Black Dogs Dig Graves
He gasped inwardly. It was rare to see even a single intelligent yellow rat, yet he had spotted three at once. And these two wild dogs were no ordinary mongrels; their fur was shiny, their bodies strong and powerful, and their eyes gleamed with ferocity—they were practically wolves.
Seeing this, I dared not go up. I could only watch from afar. A black dog digging up a grave was an ominous sign. If a grave was dug up, especially a new one, the black dog would eat the corpse inside. I had seen it before. After the black dog dug up the grave, it tore the corpse inside all over the place. The scene was extremely ugly. In the countryside, there was a custom that if this happened, the descendants would suffer a series of misfortunes. At best, there would be chaos in the house, and at worst, there would be bloodshed.
But this time it was different. The black dog was digging up the grave, and then the yellow rats came too, and there were three of them. Immediately, I felt something was wrong, so I carefully examined the new grave.
The grave is located on a sloping hillside, facing southeast, at a break in the mountain's ridge, with soil that is almost petrified. It is right next to a ravine. This is a terrible place; if someone is buried here, their descendants will suffer bad luck for eight generations.
"Oh, no, this mountain stretches out horizontally, like a sleeping dragon. It's a rare feng shui treasure land. It's a pity that the dragon never took flight. This place has been broken open by nature, and the original treasure land has become a dead land. But it can still be touched by a little dragon energy, and the descendants of the deceased should be able to make a little money. But it's a pity that the black dog dug up the grave. In the end, man proposes, God disposes."
"But why did the yellow rat come?"
I was completely baffled. Just then, amidst the rumbling thunder in the sky, a bolt of lightning struck down and landed directly on the grave.
Then several more bolts of lightning struck, almost splitting the grave open. The black dog and the yellow rat screamed in agony, both instantly killed by the lightning. This was divine punishment; there must be something inside the coffin.
I had already guessed what was going on, and I thought to myself, "All living things have their own way. Trying to go against the will of Heaven is like a moth drawn to a flame."
The remaining yellow rat and the black dog quickly fled for their lives, disappearing without a trace in an instant.
Several more bolts of lightning struck the grave and then receded. I could smell a burnt odor from a distance. When I went over, I saw that the coffin had been split open and the corpse inside was charred. On the corpse's belly, a yellow rat, also charred, was curled up. Judging from its size, it was even larger than the previous rats. It seemed that this rat was about to attain enlightenment and pass away. It was a pity that it shouldn't have gone against the will of Heaven and ended up being struck dead by lightning.
The sky grew darker and darker, with dense clouds and flashes of lightning, but no rain fell. A strong wind picked up, and I was about to run back when I inadvertently saw the mountain range in front of me suddenly rise up in a continuous line, forming the shape of a dragon soaring, with a white tiger lying on the left and a vermilion bird spreading its wings on the right.
