Chapter 612

We removed the cloth from his mouth. We wanted to ask him some questions, but unfortunately, he couldn't understand us, and we couldn't understand him either. He just hummed and mumbled, completely losing the ability to speak, or perhaps he had evolved into an animal-like way of communicating.

However, we can now confirm that these should be the descendants of the ancient Shu people, the descendants of the tomb owner. They were originally meant to guard the tomb, but due to the passage of time and their living in darkness, they evolved into this form.

We just wonder, why do they live in darkness?

After knocking him unconscious, the three of us groped our way out of the house and headed towards the central hall, where the tomb entrance is usually located.

Walking down the street, a sudden gust of cold wind blew from somewhere, making us feel cold all over. We all turned off our headlamps and only used a tactical flashlight.

The area ahead began to open up, indicating that we had reached the outskirts of the palace.

At this moment, Xiang Fei patted my shoulder, gesturing for me to look ahead. There appeared a square, with a stone platform in the center, probably as wide as a basketball court, and the scene was densely covered with corpses.

I immediately felt a chill run down my spine. These corpses had become mummies and were hanging on the pillars. There were more than twenty of them, and they began to sway as a cold wind blew by.

The empty eyes looked incredibly eerie under the light.

“This should be the execution platform for prisoners,” Xiang Fei said.

I shook my head. "It shouldn't be. In my opinion, these were slave laborers who built this place. After the construction was completed, they were thrown here to their deaths to prevent them from revealing the secrets of this place. This has happened in dynasties throughout Chinese history."

Xiang Fei nodded in agreement, then suddenly his expression changed. "How come one of them is missing?"

I looked quickly and sure enough, one of the bodies was gone, and the rope was still there, dangling. We were shocked; we couldn't be mistaken. This body was at the very front; there were eight in total, but now only seven remained.

The black cat suddenly spoke again, "No need to look anymore, it's there."

Following the direction the black cat pointed, the light shone and sure enough, there it was: the 'runaway' corpse was lying on the roof of the house next door, its empty eyes seemingly looking at us with a half-smile.

Although I tried my best to act like nothing was wrong, my heart was pounding. This was too eerie. I've been a feng shui master for seven or eight years and have seen many strange things. I've handled no less than a hundred corpses, but this is the first time I've encountered a corpse that runs away.

The black cat moved, leaping onto the roof in a few swift movements. With lightning speed, it reached out and grabbed the corpse's foot, lifting it up.

With his other hand, he reached out, grabbed the corpse's head, and snapped it off with a snap.

The black cat waved to us, indicating that we didn't need to worry. It jumped down, still carrying the corpse's head in its hand. When we looked at the desiccated head, we saw that black liquid was still flowing out. The bones had long since rotted. It shouldn't be a zombie or a corpse demon. But why did it run up to the roof by itself?

At this moment, Xiang Fei coughed twice unnaturally, gesturing for us to look at the execution platform. I turned my head and almost screamed in fright. Holy crap, all the corpses on it had 'run away'.

Corpses were everywhere, on the rooftops and in the square, all lying there; the scene was truly eerie.

We don't have time to think about how these corpses 'ran away' right now; our hearts are pounding as we stare at the dozens of mummies before us.

Xiang Fei and I both turned on our headlamps, and the bright light shone on the mummies. But unexpectedly, these mummies didn't run away; they just lay there motionless.

At this moment, Xiang Fei signaled to turn off all the lights. About a minute later, we turned them back on at the same time and were surprised to find that the mummified corpse in the execution ground had disappeared again.

The lights swept around, and to our astonishment, the mummies had crawled over in just one minute, surrounding the rooftops on both sides of us, and some of them had even begun to climb down.

Under the light, it lay there motionless, its empty eyes seeming to smile, its body already broken and tattered.

Nineteen Dragon Veins (3)

Xiang Fei and I were both a bit unsettled. I was just a novice tomb raider, while Xiang Fei was a veteran in this line of work, having even met Hei Ye before. But he frankly admitted that this was the first time he had ever encountered such a situation.

Of the three, only the black cat remained calm, or rather, it seemed oblivious. Its eyes, gleaming with an eerie light, scanned its surroundings.

“This should be a kind of evil magic that controls corpses, which was quite common among some ethnic minorities in the southwest in ancient times,” the black cat said.

Xiang Fei nodded, "That's right, this should be the corpse control technique. Once we're trapped inside, the consequences will be unimaginable. Let's leave here as soon as possible."

The black cat stood still. "That won't work. Once you're entangled by the Corpse Control Technique, they'll follow you wherever you go."

"So what do we do now?"

The black cat remained silent, its gaze still sweeping over the mummies, when it suddenly leaped up and kicked at one of the mummies beside it.

An astonishing thing happened: the mummified corpse stood up and jumped off the roof like a living person, running towards the dark street.

But the black cat was too agile; with a few leaps, it blocked the mummified corpse and kicked it backward.

I was secretly astonished, but Xiang Fei seemed unfazed, patting my shoulder and saying, "This is nothing."
