Chapter 622

"I think it's highly likely that it was built here because it's related to the Shu tombs. I think we should start now, find the entrance to this tomb, and see who it is."

Before I could even express my opinion, the old blind man quickly nodded in agreement. As for the black cat, although he didn't nod, judging from his eager expression, he clearly agreed.

So we started to take action, observing the feng shui and exploring the way. Our first target was the old blind man's house, but we couldn't find it after searching for a long time. It was impossible to dig into such a big mountain. We could only find the entrance.

In the end, Xiang Fei found a clue: at the foot of the mountain, there was a large, barren cave. No one knew when it was left, but it had been used by refugees who had fled there. Now it was abandoned and filled with garbage.

"The entrance should be here. There must have been a special cemetery here a long time ago. I just don't know if the tomb is still intact."

Mandong is a common sight here. I don't know which dynasty it was left behind. It's like a house inside. We brought our things, cleared away the soil piled up outside, and went inside.

The cave was about ten meters deep. We walked to the deepest part. Because of the long passage of time, it was completely abandoned. Spring water leaked out and formed a puddle on the ground.

The miner's lamp illuminated the surroundings, and we saw that the surrounding rocks had been chiseled flat, as if they were a single piece, with no entrance to the tomb at all.

The four of us searched carefully, and I squatted down in front of the stone wall, looking it up and down.

Suddenly my attention was drawn to the bottom of the rock wall, where the rocks had begun to crumble due to the long-term erosion by the spring water.

When I shone my flashlight, I saw a crack there, and it looked like it was made of bricks inside.

I was startled, knowing there must be more text below.

He then called Xiang Fei and the others over, and the group gathered together to observe. In the end, they all nodded in agreement.

"This should be the place. Let's get started."

The old blind man had already prepared his tools—a large sledgehammer used in the countryside for breaking stones. After a few blows, cracks appeared in the stone wall. Then we took turns hitting it, and the cracks grew bigger and bigger.

With a loud 'boom,' the rock broke off, revealing a large hole. We looked at each other, our hearts filled with excitement and tension.

The old blind man was the most excited. He spat on his hand and said, "I've been in this business for decades and I've never robbed an emperor's tomb. Today I'll give it a try."

This hole is clearly the seal of the tomb passage. It was made of mud bricks and covered with rocks. Presumably, the people who lived here were the tomb guards.

The cave was pitch black, with a very faint, eerie breeze blowing out. After checking our equipment, Xiang Fei led the way as usual, and we went in. The tomb passage gradually widened as we went in, and eventually the four of us could walk side by side.

The tomb passage was very deep, and gradually skeletons appeared on the ground, still in a struggling posture. Some were lying there, and some were crawling there, with their arms still outstretched.

"These people must have been building the imperial tomb. It's a pity that even after the tomb was completed, they couldn't survive; they were poisoned inside."

The number of skeletons increased until they covered the entire ground. There seemed to be three or four hundred skeletons, all in a struggling posture, which was heartbreaking to see. After the emperors of each dynasty died, they would build their own imperial tombs. Some emperors, in order to prevent their tombs from being known to future generations and thus robbed, tried every means to block all news. The first to bear the brunt were the slaves and common people who built the imperial tombs.

A rushing sound came from ahead. When we shone our headlamps, we saw a waterfall in front of us. It must have been carved out by man, with the water flowing straight down to form an underground river.

The miner's lamp shone down, revealing the unknown depth of the underground river. "The entrance to the imperial tomb should be at the end of the underground river. In ancient tombs, it was customary to have both mountains and water to make them more realistic. Many emperors still wanted to be emperors in another world after death, and I think the owner of this tomb was such an emperor," Xiang Fei said.

Tell the old blind man to hurry home and get two car tires. Although they're not as good as a boat, they're enough for the four of us to glide on the water.

They tied all the items to it, slowly lowered it down, and then each person jumped down one by one.

The water in the Yinhe River was a bit cold, but fortunately it was still summer, so it was barely bearable. We didn't need to go waterskiing; the water from the waterfall just swept us away.

After drifting for a while, the current began to slow down. We turned on our headlamps and began to look around. All around us were rocks, and it was quiet.

Suddenly, a strong stench of corpses wafted from ahead. "Everyone be careful," Xiang Fei said.

As I slowly glided forward, the stench of the corpse grew stronger. I stared intently ahead when I suddenly felt something touching me. I looked down and was startled.

Beside me, a corpse appeared out of nowhere—a corpse bloated from being submerged in water. Because it had been submerged for so long, its clothes had rotted away, and I could only vaguely make out that it was a man's corpse. Its long hair meant it was probably not a modern person.

The corpse's head touched me, its eyes wide open and its mouth agape, as if it had died with its eyes open in disbelief.

Xiang Fei and the others also saw it. "There must be a lot of corpses in this underground river. We must be very careful."

I carefully moved the body aside. The sound of waves crashing against the rocks came from ahead, and then a scene that made our scalp tingle appeared. Waves of water, like tides, pushed the bodies towards us. When the headlamp shone on us, we saw a dense mass of corpses, slowly surging towards us.
