Chapter 623

But these mummies didn't attack us. Instead, they crawled towards the top of the cave, just like rats. Before long, they had all crawled to the side of Wang Jian, the emperor of the Former Shu, and slowly crawled behind the rocks to our astonishment.

“There’s an exit there,” Xiang Fei said, and we quickly climbed up as well.

This is a stone cave formed by the erosion of mountains and rivers. The mummies have disappeared. Although the cave is large enough for one person to pass through, who knows if it will shrink inside and become stuck, unable to get out? And who knows where it leads?

"What should we do? Should we go in?" I asked.

"Let's keep looking; maybe we can find another way out," Xiang Fei said.

So we started looking around again.

But just then, footsteps sounded outside the stone gate again. We immediately climbed back and hid behind a rock to observe what would happen.

The footsteps outside the door grew louder and louder. This time it seemed to be several people, probably trying to open the stone door, so they made quite a commotion. We hid behind the stone door and watched quietly.

Suddenly, a loud rumbling sound rang out, and the stone door was opened. Several figures walked in from outside. When we saw them, we almost cried out in surprise. They were the same people who had come from Guangdong. They pointed around and shone their lights.

The leader said, "Damn it, they beat us to it."

Sixty-nine Burial Sites

Another person said, "Are you kidding me? They're even more ruthless than us; they even blew up the grave."

"Let's go, let's hurry and find the sacrificial site. There's a celestial coffin there. We can't let them find it first."

The three of them went out, and we observed them for a while longer to make sure they were gone before we climbed out of the rock.

"I really didn't expect them to get in here too. It seems they knew about this place all along and were secretly following us," Xiang Fei said. "Then let's play the mantis stalking the cicada, unaware of the oriole behind, hehe! Let's see who laughs last."

We climbed down and walked out of the stone gate. The cemetery outside had been disturbed, obviously by those people.

Leaving the cemetery, we returned to the terrifying pile of ancient corpses. A chilling aura swept over us, accompanied by howling sounds, and we could clearly see black smoke rising from the pile of corpses.

"This thing is no ordinary evil. I guess only ancient times could have such an evil technique, gathering death energy to nourish the corpse body. It's exactly the same as Gu Li. It seems that there were many people who wanted to become immortals back then!"

I nodded in agreement with Xiang Fei's statement, and just then, a sudden change occurred. The ancient corpses piled together began to rot, as if they had been weathered. In just a moment, only a layer of ash remained, which was blown away by Yin Fei.

Where the pile of corpses disappeared, a circular black hole appeared, and the coffin fell down there. It looked like a road leading to hell, and getting close to it made one tremble all over.

Standing on the edge of the black hole, we were momentarily at a loss. After a while, Xiang Fei said, "The real secret should be down there. Should we go down and take a look?"

I wanted to object, but before I could even speak, a tremendous force pulled me toward the cave. Xiang Fei and Black Cat tried to grab me, but the force was too great, and they were dragged down with me.

Below was pitch black, like a bottomless abyss. I felt my body falling downwards, as if floating between heaven and earth. For a moment, I was somewhat dazed, and my mind and body felt relaxed, like a bird soaring freely in the sky. I just didn't know if I would crash heavily to the ground.

A strong gust of wind blew, carrying my body slowly to the ground. Xiang Fei and the black cat followed closely behind, neither of them suffering any harm.

It was pitch black all around, but thankfully our headlamp wasn't broken, so we turned it on and started to observe.

This place was shrouded in black mist, which was formed from yin energy. It was extremely cold and chilly, and people couldn't help but shiver.

After walking for a while, a canyon appeared in front of us, a canyon that looked as if it had been cut open by a knife, with bare mountains on both sides, and the surging evil energy was coming out of it.

This is a dead end, an absolute dead end. A stone tablet stands on the mountain in front, with three ancient characters engraved on it. Although I can't understand them, Xiang Fei can understand some of them. After a long while, he said with a face as red as a pig liver, "This is... the Burial Ground of Immortals."

Even the black cat was taken aback. What a joke, this is the Burial Ground of Immortals?

"Yes, it is indeed a burial ground for immortals. Since there is a place to become an immortal, there must also be a place to bury immortals. The so-called yin and yang are mutually restraining and interdependent. This place should be where the 'immortals' of the ancient mythological era are buried."

"But aren't immortals supposed to be ethereal beings? If what you're saying is true, then there really are immortals!" I asked.

"I don't know, it's too mysterious. We have no idea what kind of beings immortals are. But since we're here, let's go in and take a look."

Black Cat and I nodded in agreement. Since we're here, we might as well make the best of it. We're determined to uncover this mystery.

The malevolent energy blew up like a cold wind, plunging the canyon into complete darkness. Enveloped in black mist, nothing could be seen, and no one knew what lay within.

Below the stone tablet, there was a path paved with bluestone slabs. We walked up it and entered the canyon. Everywhere we looked, there were corpses, all well-preserved ancient corpses. But they were not like the ancient corpses we had seen before. The corpses were dressed in different clothes, some even close to primitive. I saw that some of them were still wearing animal skins.

They were densely packed together in an orderly fashion; there were at least a thousand of them right in front of me, and I didn't know how many more were in other places. The Yin energy was so abundant that it had gathered into a black mist, which could be clearly seen with the naked eye under the light.
