Chapter 639

Startled, I quickly stepped back, as did Xiang Fei and the others.

For a moment we were all a little terrified, "Did you all see that?"

Uncle Liu from Hunan and Xiang Fei nodded, "There's something strange about this portrait!"

Just as we were about to continue our investigation, a terrified cry for help rang out from outside the main hall.

We rushed out and saw Luo Wanjun and the others running towards us, their faces pale. "There's... a ghost here," Luo Wanjun said breathlessly.

It took them a while to calm down, and then they told us that they had just gone to another place to look for the 'method to become an immortal'. They entered a pavilion building and found that there were many rooms inside. Then they split up to look for it. Unexpectedly, after they had been inside for a while, they heard someone shouting for help, as if they had been grabbed by something. When they arrived, they only saw signs of a struggle on the ground, and the person's shoes were on the ground, but the person was gone.

The atmosphere became eerie. This ancient place of immortality was too mysterious; no one knew what had happened here in the past. We all became cautious and demanded that no one act without authorization, or they would be responsible for any consequences.

Luo Wanjun nodded vigorously, "Don't worry, we won't act on our own anymore. We'll follow the arrangements of the masters."

Let's go back into the main hall first, at least it's safe inside now. But when we went in, we broke out in a cold sweat, the portrait was gone.

He rubbed his eyes. "Yes, it's really gone. But there are only us here. We all came out just now. How could the portrait have disappeared?"

I looked at Xiang Fei and saw that he also looked unwell and was deep in thought.

"What the hell? It's already haunted as soon as we came in?" the old blind man said.

I walked around the main hall and found that there was only one large door, through which a large circular hole was opened in the ceiling, allowing light to shine in and fall on the center of the hall.

"Could it have flown away from up there? Or perhaps someone came in from up there and took it?" I thought to myself, but then I dismissed the idea. "Who could come in from up there and take the portrait so quickly? As for flying away, that's impossible too. I don't believe this portrait can grow wings on its own. So there's only one possibility: there's a ghost here."

I looked at Xiang Fei, wanting to ask for his opinion, but he gave me a wink. "There's a mole," he whispered as he walked past me.

There is a mole among the 150.

A chill ran down my spine. "There's a mole! Who could it be?" But I also found it unbelievable. Even if there was a mole, he was among us. But I didn't see anyone alone inside. Even if I didn't see him, how can I explain that so many people didn't see him? To put it another way, what if the mole took the portrait? I looked at everyone and no one noticed. The portrait was so big that it would be easy to leave a trace if it were hidden on someone's body. Everything was getting weird!

Just then, I heard the zither music again. The sound was very close, as if it were right outside the door. I went out and looked in the direction from which the music was coming from. I saw a woman sitting in the pavilion playing the zither. It was too far away to see what the woman looked like. I could only make out that she was a woman dressed in white.

"Who could she be? Could she be the lingering vengeful spirit in the Shu Tomb?" I wondered to myself. Suddenly, an idea popped into my head: to go and see for myself. I felt a strange unease about the music.

"Forget it, this place is very eerie, I'd better be careful," I thought to myself as I prepared to return to the main hall. But when I turned around, I was horrified to find that I was already far away from the main hall. The doors of the main hall were now closed, and I was left standing alone in the square.

"What's going on?" I was already feeling scared, and cold sweat dripped down my forehead. "I was just standing at the door a moment ago, how did I end up here? And why didn't Xiang Fei and the others call me?"

"Don't panic," I told myself. Looking back, the woman in white was still playing the zither in the pavilion, the melodious and ethereal music penetrating my heart.

"Could she be a fairy?" I looked around and found nothing else was happening, so I decided to take the plunge. Since I kept hearing this music, I might as well go and see what she was up to.

With that thought in mind, I boldly walked over. As I got closer, I could see the woman's face. The only way to describe her was as stunningly beautiful. Stepping into the pavilion, I stood there quietly watching her.

After a moment, the music stopped, as if a piece had been played. The woman ignored me and instead lowered her head to stroke the wooden zither, as if she were caressing her lover.

"Throughout the centuries, it has been my only companion," the woman finally spoke, her voice clear and melodious like heavenly music.

Then she raised her head, her eyes, as clear as autumn water, looking at me. "You've come," she said. A gentle breeze blew by, causing her ink-black hair to flutter in the air, adorned with a silver hairpin in her high bun.

"Do you know me?" I asked calmly.

"I don't know you, I just felt you resembled someone," the woman sighed softly, then asked me, "Was my playing beautiful?"

"It sounds really good, but it gives me a strange feeling."

"Alas," the woman sighed, "He once said the same thing, that my playing is very beautiful, but in the end I still cannot play for him alone."

"Why is the music you played the same as the one I heard in the Shu tomb?" I asked again. I had so many regrets in my heart, so I decided to take this opportunity to ask. My intuition told me that she must know a lot and that it was related to all of this.

"Just a lingering obsession," the woman replied softly.
