Upon hearing this, we were secretly alarmed. Who was this person who sent two of his men to meet with us? Was he just being mysterious and suspenseful, or was he afraid of meeting us?
"Your husband is really putting on airs. Does he look down on us?" Xiang Fei sneered.
A man waved his hands repeatedly, "Gentlemen, you've misunderstood. The gentleman was originally going to come in person, but something came up suddenly and he couldn't get away, so he asked us to come. We've also brought the animal skin paper you wanted."
After saying that, the man took out the tattered animal skin handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to Xiang Fei.
Now, although we are dissatisfied, we can't say anything. After all, they have already given us the animal skins, so what else can we say?
Xiang Fei glanced at the animal skin paper and nodded to us.
"Hehe, if you gentlemen have nothing else to say, then we'll take our leave. We still have to go back and take care of things for our master," the two men stood up and clasped their hands in greeting. We also stood up and clasped our hands in greeting. "Then please take care, gentlemen. Please give our thanks to your master."
"Definitely, definitely."
Ghost Thousand Hands saw the two men out the door, then returned and gave us a helpless smile. "I told you this guy is hard to find. I really don't know who he is."
We won't dwell on that now. We've already got the animal skin paper, but unfortunately it's only incomplete. Some of the ancient Shu characters on it have been eroded beyond recognition by time. We'll have to take it to Professor Zhang and his team to have it restored with some instruments before we can see it.
At this point, Ghost Thousand Hands had already instructed his men to prepare a meal, insisting that we stay for a simple meal. We couldn't refuse, so we stayed.
Before long, a table full of food and wine was laid out. Gui Qianshou invited us to sit down. I glanced at it and saw that it was full of famous Sichuan dishes, some of which you might not be able to find elsewhere.
"Come, come, gentlemen, please don't be shy. We've prepared some food and drinks for you to enjoy. To be honest, it's been a long time since I've had a drink and meal with my friends from the underworld. Today is a rare opportunity, so please don't take offense."
We exchanged some polite words and started chatting.
After a few rounds of drinks, everyone started chatting animatedly. Gui Qianshou had someone bring out an old wine jar from the inner room and proudly said, "This is imperial wine that Sichuan specially supplied to the royal family during the Qing Dynasty. I'm not bragging, but now in all of China, we probably only have this one left. I've always been reluctant to drink it, but this time I'm bringing it out for everyone to try."
As soon as the seal was opened, a rich aroma of wine wafted out, its fragrance intoxicating. "Indeed, it's good wine," I thought to myself. It seems that Ghost Thousand Hands' invitation to dinner wasn't just a simple way of entertaining friends!
Ghost Thousand Hands poured a bowl for each of us, then sealed the wine jar again. "This wine is over a hundred years old, and it has a strong aftereffect. One bowl is enough."
One hundred and forty-three Immortal Lands
Ghost Thousand Hands said with a smile, but we all know that he must have some purpose in being so enthusiastic. As the saying goes, there is no such thing as a free lunch.
Of course, we didn't say anything; we just observed him discreetly.
Sure enough, after a short while, Ghost Thousand Hands' expression changed, revealing a worried look on his face. He sighed and shook his head.
As soon as we saw him like that, we knew the fox's tail was about to be revealed.
Seeing this, Xiang Fei smiled and asked, "I wonder what trouble Brother Qianshou has encountered? Why do you look so worried?"
"Alas, it's better not to talk about this matter, even if we did, it wouldn't be of any help."
"How do you know we can't help if you don't tell us? Tell us anyway."
"Haha, since Brother Xiang is so magnanimous, then I won't pretend anymore. To be honest, I also participated in the tomb raiding of Shu many years ago. A major reason why I later gave up was because of this. I'm sure you guys are all familiar with the tombs of Shu, right?"
Hearing him say that, we were all secretly startled, but we didn't show it and continued to observe the situation.
Xiang Fei nodded. "It seems we're all on the same page. Since that's the case, there's no need to hide anything. That's right, we're investigating the secrets of the Shu Tomb."
Gui Qianshou nodded. "From the moment you came here, I knew you were looking for clues about the Shu Tomb. If I'm not mistaken, one of them is about 'becoming an immortal,' right?"
"Exactly."
"Becoming an immortal...the dream of so many people, but it all comes to nothing in the end," Ghost Thousand Hands sighed. "Back then, we were just like you, top masters in the Dao, skilled in divination and prophecy, but in the end we still suffered a terrible calamity, with heavy casualties. If I hadn't escaped quickly, I wouldn't be sitting here talking to you now."
We were shocked. It seemed that this matter was more complicated than we had imagined, involving more and more people, but they all had a similar ending: they suffered a terrible tragedy and heavy casualties.
"Tell me, what do you want us to do for you?" Xiang Fei asked directly.
"This matter is neither simple nor difficult. I just want you to help me find someone. This person is very cunning and has a mysterious background that has kept us all in the dark. If it weren't for him, we might not have been in this situation back then. He is the mole."
We could no longer remain calm. Ghost Thousand Hands brought up the traitor, which made us think of many things. There are various signs that there is a traitor hiding among us, but we don't have a single clue about this traitor.
"Do you have any leads on him?" Xiang Fei asked immediately.
"Not yet. This person was too mysterious back then and knew a lot about the Shu Tomb. We cooperated with him and didn't find anything unusual until the incident. By the time we realized something was wrong, it was too late. Under his conspiracy, we went down a dead end. Of the five of us, only I escaped. Then this person disappeared."
