Chapter 609

Finally, we saw the bottom. The Monkey King was amazed. Isn't that the place where the ancient Shu people worshipped in that picture?

In the center, a huge bronze statue stands, comparable to the Buddha in a temple. Just like in the painting, this bronze statue with a human face gives people an eerie feeling, especially its eyes, which seem to be smiling sinisterly.

The bronze statue was surrounded by stone slabs, and an oil lamp was lit in each of the four corners, but there was no one below... the silence was almost suffocating.

The quieter it was, the more frightening it became. The bronze statue had been there for who knows how many years, but its surface remained smooth. In front of the statue was a cross-shaped wooden stake, exactly the same as the one in the picture.

What made the Monkey King's scalp tingle was that there was another person on top of him, bound by iron chains, with long hair covering his face, so that he could not see what he looked like.

My legs started to tremble. Wasn't the person on the cross-shaped wooden stake exactly the same as the man who was executed in that sacrificial picture? Although I couldn't see his face, his clothes and even his posture were exactly the same.

So many years have passed, yet the man's body is still so well preserved. Could it be...? The Monkey King dared not even think about it.

The cave was already quite large, and now it has become even more spacious after being carved out by humans. Although there are oil lamps lit around the perimeter, there are still many dark corners inside, as if something is lurking there.

Just as he was hesitating whether to go down, he was suddenly pushed hard from behind. Before he could react, the Great Sage Equaling Heaven tumbled down and rolled directly to the center of the altar. In front of him was the cross-shaped wooden stake, and the corpse of the man on it had his face covered by long hair.

"Who is it?" Cold sweat poured down his back. Ignoring the pain in his body, he looked around, but there was no one else on the entire altar except for himself. His voice echoed in the space.

The Seven Great Sages of the Heavens have gone mad.

"Who is it? Why are you acting so sneaky? Show yourself if you dare!" The Great Sage Equaling Heaven was on the verge of a mental breakdown, and his emotions began to become chaotic.

"Damn it, are you a human or a ghost? Show yourself if you dare, I'll fight you to the death today!" The voice echoed all around, but there was still no answer. (Due to the needs of the text, some local Sichuan dialect will be added to this article, which I believe everyone should be able to understand.)

Suddenly, a gust of cold wind blew out from nowhere, extinguishing two of the four oil lamps and plunging the entire scene into darkness. The Monkey King trembled violently.

Suddenly, a small stone came out from the darkness behind him and hit him. Like a startled bird, he jumped up immediately. "Who is that?" He shone his headlamp in the direction of the stone, but since the power was almost gone, he couldn't see anything clearly.

The Monkey King mustered his courage and groped his way forward, asking, "Which one is inside?"

Suddenly, a hand reached out from the darkness, grabbed the Monkey King's foot, and dragged him inside.

Terrified, he struggled desperately, but the other person was obviously much stronger than him, and it was all in vain. Just as he was feeling desperate, Old Huang's voice rang out in the darkness. It was the helper he had invited, "Stop messing around, or I'll chop your head off."

As he spoke, the butcher's knife was placed against the neck of the Monkey King.

Holding his breath, the Monkey King asked in fear, "Old Huang, your door is here too, where are the others?"

"You even mentioned those guys to me. Do you know that it was all because of you, kid, that we got up to help, and now we've lost our lives. What about that son of a bitch, Blackie? That bastard has ruined us."

“I don’t know where he went either. He came in and disappeared. I only just found this place.”

"You son of a bitch, it must have been that bastard Blackie's doing. This tomb raiding was all arranged by that bastard, making us all scapegoats so he can make his fortune. You've followed him for so many years, and you've still been tricked by him. If you want to live, you have to obey. We'll cooperate. I bet that bastard Blackie will definitely come here soon. This place is the most important place. We'll wait here until he comes, and then I'll kill him."

Then, a cold wind blew out from somewhere, and one of the remaining two oil lamps went out, making it even darker. The remaining oil lamp swayed precariously in the darkness, as if it might go out at any moment.

An inexplicable sense of unease arose, and Old Huang whispered, "I suspect that Blackie is closely related to this, or that he might not even be human."

One sentence made the Monkey King break out in a cold sweat: "If Blackie isn't human, then what is he?"

“It’s the incarnation of a vengeful ghost,” Old Huang said in a strange tone.

"An incarnation of a vengeful ghost?" The Great Sage Equaling Heaven was somewhat skeptical. After all, he had followed Master Hei for many years and often spent time with him in daily life. To say that he was a vengeful ghost was like a fantasy.

"Just wait and see, he'll reveal his true form soon," Old Huang said confidently.

A cold wind blew, and the oil lamp flickered, as if it might go out at any moment. Then, the quiet space was filled with light footsteps, indicating that someone had come down.

"Could it be Blackie?"

Both men held their breath, focusing their attention on the exit of the stone passage in the dim light. The 'pattering' sound grew closer, and a dark figure descended from the stone passage. Their exact appearance was unclear, but from their general outline, it was clear that it was Blackie.

Just as the Monkey King was about to speak, Old Huang covered his mouth, signaling him to observe a little longer.

It was an incredibly eerie scene. In the dim light, Blackie had his back to them, muttering something under his breath, but his voice was too soft to hear clearly.
