Gouchen died.

Gou Chen was struck by Bai Qi's blade, his halberd cleaved in two, the surging magical power crashing into his soul and heart, slamming him to the ground. The power raged wildly within him, forcing him to desperately circulate his internal energy to expel the strange force. The force, originating from behind, leveled the mountain where he landed, leaving a crater a hundred feet deep within a thousand miles. Gou Chen was severely injured, bleeding profusely, but he managed to stand, weakly saying, "It is my duty, I dare not neglect it. Today, Gou Chen fought Brother Bai, and though I die, I have no regrets, I only wish to prevent war from breaking out in the Three Realms."

Bai Qi praised, "Emperor Gouchen is indeed a heroic figure! To be honest, I really didn't want to be ruthless towards you. Alas, fate is cruel, and we have to become enemies." After a pause, he added, "Emperor, you should send your thirteen generals to assist you! Otherwise, you will not be able to defeat me."

After pondering for a moment, Gou Chen said, "That's fine. But in that case, I'll have to bully the few with the many. Please forgive me, Brother Bai!"

Bai Qi nodded and said, "It's alright! This is the right thing to do, and it's nothing serious."

The eight marshals and five supreme warriors had already come to protect Bai Qi after his defeat. Upon hearing Gou Chen's words, they exchanged glances and quickly surrounded him. Gou Chen knew that success or failure hinged on this moment, so he forcefully channeled his inner energy, causing his power to surge. Gou Chen shouted to the thirteen warriors, "Form the formation!"

The Five Extremes Warriors formed the Five Elements Formation within, while the Eight Marshals formed the Eight Trigrams Formation outside; this was the true Eight Trigrams Five Elements Formation. Once this formation was complete, even those with quasi-saint cultivation would have to be extremely cautious if they did not understand formations. Bai Qi also recognized the extraordinary nature of this formation; he saw heavy malevolent energy within it, and entering it was like walking in chaos, unable to discern directions. The Eight Trigrams contain the Great Dao, and the Great Dao transforms into the Five Elements; the Five Elements and the Eight Trigrams are inherently one.

Bai Qi possessed only strength, but lacked knowledge of formations. Witnessing the array's power, he dared not be careless and attacked before they could fully deploy it. His blade still brimmed with world-destroying power, but when blocked by those who had set up the array, no explosion was heard. Bai Qi realized the power in his blade seemed to vanish into thin air, disappearing without a trace. Bai Qi was greatly shocked and, in disbelief, slashed at another person, but the result was the same. No matter who he struck, those around him would rush to block, and the power of his blade would dissipate upon contact with their weapons. The Arctic War God said to Bai Qi, "Bai Qi, although you are one of the few masters in the Three Realms, I'm afraid you still cannot escape death today. Since the creation of this array, countless great supernatural beings have perished. How can your strength alone compare to the power of heaven and earth?"

Bai Qi was an unparalleled powerhouse, possessing the dignity of a true warrior. How could he allow someone as insignificant as an ant in his eyes to humiliate him! Bai Qi roared repeatedly, his veins bulging, and the power of his blade increased even further. Gou Chen and the others were astonished, thinking to themselves, "If it weren't for this final grand formation, we might really have perished here in this battle."

Unfortunately, before Gou Chen and the others could calm down, Bai Qi roared, "You think you can trap me with this formation? Dream on!" In an instant, Bai Qi unleashed over a hundred slashes at the War God of the Wood element, while the War Gods of the South and North, representing Fire and Water respectively, rushed to his aid. Bai Qi thought to himself, "This is the moment." He used the momentum of the clash to escape, his target being none other than the War God of the Sky, representing Metal. The generals of Wood, Water, and Fire knew they were in trouble when they blocked Bai Qi's slashes; the sword's momentum was merely superficial, containing little real power. The War God of the North cried out urgently, "Bai Qi is about to break through the formation! Stop him!"

Upon hearing Bai Qi's intention to break through the great formation, the Earth God of War rushed towards the Sky God of War. This was a classic case of "protesting too much," as Bai Qi hadn't actually known the location of the formation's core; he merely wanted to test his ability to break through. The Earth God of War's movement immediately gave Bai Qi the clues. Bai Qi's slashing blade amplified its magical power, as if the heavens and earth themselves had been ripped apart, instantly creating a gap in the inner Five Elements Formation. Under the overwhelming force of Bai Qi's absolute power, both the Sky and Earth Gods of War coughed up blood and were flung away like kites with broken strings. Bai Qi himself was also badly injured. The Five Elements Formation contained the power of the five elements; if he hadn't found the core, he would likely have been reduced to nothingness by the formation. Even with Bai Qi's great shamanic physique, the combined attack of the two generals was too much for him to handle, and he was injured by the raging power of the five elements.

The Five Elements correspond to the Eight Trigrams: Metal corresponds to Qian and Dui, with Qian representing Heaven and Dui representing Lake; Wood corresponds to Zhen and Xun, with Zhen representing Thunder and Xun representing Wind; Earth corresponds to Kun and Gen, with Kun representing Earth and Gen representing Mountain; Water corresponds to Kan, with Kan representing Water; and Fire corresponds to Li, with Li representing Fire. If we only consider the Five Elements formation, the Wood Gate is the Gate of Life, but there is also the Eight Trigrams formation outside, which makes the Metal position, the Gate of Death, become the Gate of Life.

Having learned that metal represents life and that the eight trigrams govern mutual generation, Bai Qi easily deduced that the Qian position in the outer eight trigrams formation governs life. He charged towards the Qian position with the immense power he had used to break through the Five Elements Formation, expecting to easily escape. However, upon reaching the Qian position, he discovered that the formation's core had shifted again. Although anxious, Bai Qi calmly analyzed the location of the core and carefully observed the formation's operation. Sensing something amiss, he swiftly left the Qian position and headed towards the Kan position (water). For some reason, a voice inexplicably arose in Bai Qi's mind, as if telling him that water gives birth to all things, and the Kan position is the true life gate. Without time to ponder whether this was inappropriate, Bai Qi staked his life on this enormous gamble and chose the Kan position.

It really was the Kan Gate. The seven marshals from the other gates were about to come to help, but they were pulled back by an unknown force and paused for a moment. At that moment, the Kan Shui marshal, who was in charge of guarding the Kan Gate, was beaten to a pulp by Bai Qi.
