In the Fengyan tribe, there was a place called Thunder Marsh, said to be haunted by wild beasts, and none of the tribe dared to enter. One day, Huaxu, a woman from the tribe, went out and, wanting to see the scenery of Thunder Marsh, slipped in alone and unsupervised. She found the marsh filled with birdsong and fragrant flowers, a beautiful sight, and enjoyed herself immensely. Suddenly, she noticed a huge footprint beside the marsh. Curious, she measured the footprint with her own feet. That night, she had a dream. In it, countless lotus flowers descended from the sky, accompanied by celestial music, and countless seven-colored rays of light surrounded a small figure, which then descended and entered her womb. A few days later, Huaxu discovered she had unknowingly become pregnant.
Hua Xu was greatly alarmed and ran to ask her mother, Feng Yan. At this time, most humans practiced the basic techniques passed down by Xuan Tian (Lao Tzu and his followers did not pass down any Daoist methods, they generally only accepted disciples). Feng Yan had even received guidance from a disciple of Penglai Island, and in the Feng Yan tribe, she was not only the most powerful but also the oldest and most knowledgeable. After listening to Hua Xu's account, Feng Yan pondered and calculated for a moment, then said, "In my opinion, this matter clearly indicates that a person blessed by heaven is conceived in your womb. Not only is it not a bad thing, but it will also greatly benefit our tribe. You can rest assured, the future will tell." Hearing her mother say this, Hua Xu was relieved.
However, Hua Xu's pregnancy this time was quite strange. Since the emergence of the human race, the pregnancy has always lasted ten months and the child was born in one day. Even if there were exceptions, it would only be a matter of a few days before or after. But Hua Xu's pregnancy lasted for ten years and there was still no sign of childbirth.
After this incident, the tribespeople gradually became frightened, believing that Huaxu was carrying a monster. They demanded that Huaxu abort the child. Huaxu couldn't bear to see the child die before it was even born. Fortunately, Huaxu's mother was the tribal chief, and thanks to Feng Yan's intervention, the child was saved. Feng Yan was highly respected, which dispelled the tribespeople's doubts.
Hua Xu endured the pressure of pregnancy, but after another year she still hadn't given birth. The tribespeople, ignoring Feng Yan's words, were afraid and demanded that Hua Xu abort the child. Hua Xu refused, and in the end, Feng Yan had no choice but to arrange for Hua Xu to live in a thatched hut by a small river outside the tribe. The tribespeople then stopped caring about Hua Xu.
Hua Xu lived alone, heavily pregnant, and her tribe forbade her from gathering food around the tribe. She became utterly alone and often wept bitterly when recalling the past.
That night, Hua Xu wept alone in her thatched hut and slowly fell asleep. In her dream, Hua Xu saw a Taoist priest dressed in a silver-white robe and wearing a jade crown to tie his hair up. The priest entered her hut and said to her, "The child you are carrying is a sage. He will be born in a year. After that, strange beasts will bring you food. You need not worry." After saying this, the priest turned and left the thatched hut.
Hua Xu awoke with a start. Realizing it was a dream, she secretly wept. Suddenly, she noticed a fruit on a pile of straw in the room. She quickly picked it up and ate it. As soon as she swallowed the fruit, she felt a warm sensation rise from her stomach and quickly spread throughout her body, immediately relieving her hunger. Hua Xu knew that a divine being had helped her, and she immediately knelt and prayed in all directions.
Two days later, a mythical beast, a Qilin, indeed emerged from the mountains carrying food. The people were terrified upon seeing it and fled in all directions. The beast came to Hua Xu's house, put down the food, and roared incessantly. Hua Xu, inside the house, heard the terrified cries of his people and was greatly alarmed. Suddenly, he heard a roar he had never heard before, and knew that the divine being had told him that the beast that brought the food had arrived. He hurriedly went out of the house and saw a strange beast lying in front of it, with the body of a deer, the tail of an ox, the hooves of a wolf, the scales of a fish, and a yellow fleshy horn on its head. There were several fruits in front of the beast, which Hua Xu picked up and ate. After Hua Xu finished eating the food, the Qilin turned and walked into the forest.
After several days, news of Hua Xu's infertility, which had lasted for over ten years, and the strange beast that brought her food, spread throughout dozens of surrounding tribes. One day, an elder came from afar to see the strange beast. Upon seeing the Qilin, the elder said to everyone, "This strange beast is called Qilin. It is a divine beast, a benevolent beast, and the mount of the celestial beings. Since such a divine beast brings food to Hua Xu, I'm afraid the Fengyan tribe will produce a sage."
Upon hearing this, everyone was shocked and quickly asked Hua Xu to forgive them. Hua Xu knew that her people were just afraid, so she forgave them. Several days later, she explained to everyone that the elder of the Qilin had brought everyone from the tribe to join the Fengyan tribe. When the news spread, the surrounding tribes rushed to join the Fengyan tribe in hopes of future peace.
A year passed, and Huaxu finally gave birth to a baby boy. The elders of the tribe named him Paoxi. Paoxi was extremely intelligent, born with the ability to speak, and possessed immense strength. By the age of a few years, he could help the tribe hunt and gather wild fruits. Paoxi grew at an astonishing speed. Now, Paoxi was almost an adult, tall, with long, flowing hair, and a glint of light constantly flashing in his eyes, showing his extraordinary wisdom. Relying on a few basic cultivation techniques passed down in the tribe, Paoxi surpassed Fengyan within a few years, becoming one of the top experts in the Fengyan tribe.
Paoxi was concerned about the development of his tribe and the safety of his people, noticing that they often couldn't hunt enough food to sustain the tribe. In battles with wild animals, especially large ones, people frequently suffered serious injuries and even death. So, he began to ponder how to find a safer method.
After all, Paoxi was young and inexperienced, and although he racked his brains, he could never find a good solution. In every battle, he was always there in the most dangerous places, shielding his people from most of the danger. In this way, his prestige in the tribe gradually surpassed that of Fengyan and Huaxu. After discussing it, Huaxu and Fengyan wanted to hand over the leadership of the tribe to Paoxi. Paoxi said that he was too young and inexperienced and refused to accept the position.
One day, a woman came to the tribe. She was dressed in a seven-colored phoenix robe and carried a fan with the Feng Shui of the Four Seas. She was Huixin, the eldest disciple of Xuantian of Penglai Island.
