Philsa sat on the ground, panting heavily. Sensing Mr. St. Fess's presence, she looked up in surprise, but had no strength to speak.
"No need for further words, come with me. I'm afraid their reinforcements might arrive soon, so let's leave this place first."
Jelu helped Philsa up, and they followed Mr. St. Fess, who was walking briskly ahead. He left the town and came to the edge of the mine near the exit, where he found a cave entrance. As night fell, there were few workers around the mine.
Inside the cave, Saint Fes lit a torch, casting a dim light in the darkness. Firsa had Gelu hand her a clean cloth, carefully applied the medicine, and then placed it on her eyes.
He had to do it, otherwise the pain in his eyes would become unbearable. After that, all three of them fell silent.
Philsa didn't know what to say. Seeing his teacher in such a disheveled state made him feel uneasy. To the teacher, he was just one of many unnoticed students under the teacher's strict rules. Unlike his classmates who became famous after graduation, he had gradually faded into obscurity and should have been forgotten long ago.
Jelu glanced at Saint Fes and noticed that his hair was half-white and his eyes were deep; he was a man who had experienced many hardships.
Mr. St. Fess stared at him and greeted him, “Fei, it’s been many years. I’ve heard a little about your story; it’s good that you’re still alive.”
He nodded, took a deep breath, and spoke with renewed vigor: "Today, it's all thanks to the teacher..."
Mr. St. Fes interrupted his thanks, "I have been searching for you. I heard you want to... resurrect the dead? That's taboo, don't you know that?"
Philsa noticed the teacher's tone had become stern.
I am no longer the student who diligently followed the teachings of the past.
Once a decision is made, even if it violates taboos, one will disregard everything to fulfill their long-cherished wish.
He didn't speak, but the teacher could already see the determination on his face. "For this, you even opposed Wang, and lost your eyes seven years ago."
"I also lost my companion."
“I know that your lost companion... who was also your lover—Shirley, I have met her before.”
Saint Fes turned to look at the girl next to Philsa.
In the firelight, Jielu met the teacher's sharp eyes, which seemed to pierce straight into her heart, and couldn't help but shrink back, so she turned her face away to look at her companion.
Saint Fess sighed, stared at the flames, and remained silent for a long time.
The firelight revealed the period when Philsa was in the academy.
He followed his teacher, Saint Fess, to learn ice-based swordsmanship. Although his talent wasn't on par with that of a peerless genius, his teacher believed he would eventually achieve great things later in life. "Now is not the time for you to lose your life. You must live."
"Of course! I have other goals..."
"You are now on the side of the rebels against Xingli, and sooner or later you will be besieged by the heroes of Xingli. Don't think that you can escape every time. There are many grandmasters on the continent who have not yet made a move, and they have long since submitted to the banner of Auguston."
The teacher's words...were suggestive. Philsa vaguely understood, but still remained somewhat skeptical.
"I've come to you today to offer some advice."
Philsa tried to retort, but was interrupted once again.
"Join King Augustine's ranks. Now is not the time for you to lose your life."
Philsaho stood up abruptly, his face filled with astonishment. Gelu had never seen him so surprised; his face had turned pale.
He must have always held his mentor in high esteem, yet now his mentor was asking him to join the ranks of his enemy. Such feelings were truly difficult for others to comprehend.
"To serve the king is the ultimate destiny of the heroes of Xingli, and to die for the king is the highest honor for them. He is the king of heroes. You must obey the will of the people."
"Impossible! Even if I were all alone, I would never acknowledge him as my king. He has turned the continent of Valentino into a primeval forest where only wild beasts roar, filled with lust, bloodshed, and brutality. The so-called Xing Li is just a cover-up; only a child would believe that!"
"The law of the jungle is the biggest and most widespread rule of the game in this world. The king must cultivate heroes in this era to fight against the real enemies of the future and protect the country. Your enemy is not the king. Put aside your grudges."
"But that guy killed Sherry with his own hands! I still remember the scene that night clearly. I dream about it almost every night, and my eyes hurt terribly every time I dream about it."
My ancient ice sword shattered, and I didn't even have the strength to get up. It was Sherry who, to protect me, shielded me with her petite frame, exhausting her magic and stamina to withstand over twenty consecutive photon explosions, leaving not even ashes behind!
Jelu covered her mouth in surprise, having never heard him give a detailed account of the matter.
She suddenly felt her companion's breathing become heavy again, similar to before he lost control. So she quickly grabbed his hand and told him to calm down.
Mr. St. Fess was over fifty years old, almost twice the age of his students. How could he not have experienced these things? He had long since seen through life and death.
Throughout history, in various countries, many monarchs and heroes have formed friendships through entanglements. Most of them have become legends. This is a manifestation of righteousness.
"I am no hero. Hero is just a nicer nickname that the king's lackeys give themselves."
"No, before the Star Dawn Era arrived, you were already a hero known for slaying the Demon Lord."
Philsa was plunged into darkness.
The firelight in the cave could only provide him with some warmth, but it couldn't let him see the light. The warmth of the fire calmed his mind slightly, and scenes from his past resurfaced in his mind.
Slaying the Demon Lord... that was an adventure he shared with Sherry. The journey was arduous, but with companions by his side, they supported each other through thick and thin, and ultimately overcame the difficulties.
