I noticed that Grandpa and Yanling's expressions had returned to normal, and their faces were somewhat solemn as they stared at the huge vine. Although my punch was powerful, it had a significant effect on the ghost trees around us.
But it had no effect on the tree king, as if it had no significant effect at all.
However, this would surely enrage the Tree King, and the Tree King would then unleash a furious barrage of attacks.
I understand the current situation now. It seems that we have reached a real crisis moment. However, I no longer have the energy I had at the beginning, and the jade pendant is only emitting a faint green light, which is not effective at all.
Grandpa was already injured, and Yanling was a weak woman. At this moment, I was the only one who could help. I couldn't back down, so even though I had no energy left, I didn't retreat a single step. I stared intently at the giant vines of the Tree King.
But for some reason, the vines didn't move at all; they just stayed suspended in the air. Instead, the man-eating trees stared straight at me with pity in their eyes, as if I were going to die any second.
Chapter Sixty-Two: Taking Direct Action
Shui Yanling and her grandfather exchanged a glance. Shui Yanling indicated that she was definitely going to take action immediately, but her grandfather gestured for her to wait. Of course, I was only focused on the huge vine in front of me and didn't pay attention to what was happening behind me.
Shui Yanling was somewhat puzzled by her grandfather's gesture, but she did not act rashly and simply observed the situation before her.
Grandpa was also watching the huge vine, waiting to see what it would do next. The reason he told Yanling not to make a move was because he sensed that the anger of the Tree King deep in the forest seemed to have subsided and it was no longer as violent as it had been.
He roughly guessed why the tree king was angry, but he didn't know how to explain it to it. The tree king was completely blinded by anger and it was impossible to reason with it.
Fang Shuang's punch was so powerful that it actually knocked it back, and for some unknown reason, it inadvertently calmed down the Tree King.
However, Grandpa still didn't make any rash moves to communicate with the tree king, because the tree king seemed very arrogant and completely ignored his request. He didn't want to provoke the tree king at this moment, after all, he was on its territory and he was injured.
If the situation, which was originally peaceful, were to become chaotic because of his actions, it would be difficult to resolve. Therefore, he decided to wait and see for the moment.
Suddenly, the tip of the vine began to change, and I saw the very spot where I had punched and smashed the face that had no features.
After a transformation, the face that had been devoid of features suddenly reappeared.
The sudden appearance of such a face on the vine was quite unsettling, but thankfully I've seen my share of ghosts, so I just swallowed hard and didn't feel too much fear.
After that face appeared, I felt a gaze directed at me again. However, unlike before, this gaze seemed to be filled with doubt and confusion, lacking the rudeness and aloof indifference of the beginning.
I felt uncomfortable under its gaze, not out of fear, but because being stared at like that made me a little uneasy. Could this tree king be a woman? This thought suddenly crossed my mind. After all, although I'm not particularly handsome, my manly attack just now must have captivated her. The more I thought about it, the more frightened I became. I really didn't want to become the captive of an ancient tree spirit that had lived for who knows how many years. The more I thought about it, the more uneasy I felt.
But at that moment, the jade pendant in my hand suddenly emitted a green light, and then floated up from my arm, directly facing the faceless face on the giant vine. The gaze that had been scrutinizing me seemed to have moved away from me and then rested on the jade pendant.
When I saw the jade pendant suddenly appear, I was filled with gratitude. If I were to let those eyes stare at me like that any longer, I would surely break down.
If the Tree King knew that Fang Shuang was actually thinking this way, it would probably slap him to death.
However, the Tree King was obviously unaware of this at the moment, because he was completely attracted by the jade pendant in front of him and the scent emanating from it.
At first, he only felt that there was an aura about the man that made him very uncomfortable, so he sent his descendants to test him.
Finally, having no other choice, he went out to confirm it himself. But after sensing the aura on the ghost head, he immediately mistook Fang Shuang for that disgusting ghost, which stirred up some of his past memories, which is why he was so furious.
He paid no attention to the ghostly aura emanating from the woman. Despite her attempts to conceal it, he could tell at a glance that she was a thousand-year-old vengeful ghost.
Even so, he initially had no intention of making a move, because the woman and the old man both had a familiar aura about them, and the old man often passed by here, yet he had never made things difficult for him.
But today they dared to bring a ghost into his territory, which really offended him. So as soon as he confirmed the aura, he immediately took action, willing to kill them all to eliminate the ghost.
But what happened next was something he didn't expect. The ghostly figure actually used a huge aura to forcefully repel him. This little injury was nothing to him, and he didn't care about it at all.
