However, there was already someone else in that spot...

A mist gradually clouded her eyes, obscuring Ji Mo behind a thick fog. So Bo Zheng could no longer see Ji Mo; only a hazy figure floated in her misty eyes. It turned out they were already together.

It was a long time before Ji Mo finally saw Mu Rao off at the door.

Ji Mo closed the door and walked to the window, watching Mu Rao walk out of the house through the building. From the windows of the living room, the bedroom, and the study, Mu Rao's figure receded into the distance. He opened the study window, gazing at Mu Rao's retreating figure, his dark pupils swirling with unfathomable thoughts.

When Bo Zheng was feeling dizzy from the cold, she heard the sound of Ji Mo opening the window. Just as Ji Mo was about to close the window, he looked down and saw Bo Zheng, who was almost frozen stiff.

Ji Mo paused for a moment, then pulled the window wider. Bo Zheng opened her eyes abruptly, feeling the warmth coming through the window, and then Ji Mo carried her into the house.

Bo Zheng felt the warmth of Ji Mo's embrace and couldn't help but smile. "I'm home."

Ji Mo placed Bo Zheng on the stool, went back to close the window, and then went to the study. Bo Zheng leaned weakly against the back of the chair; she longed for Ji Mo to stay and keep her company. But Bo Zheng didn't have the strength to get up, so she could only slump there limply.

A little while later, Jimo returned and pushed a plate of plum blossom cakes in front of Bozheng.

Bo Zheng looked at the plum blossom cake and then at Jimo, dumbfounded.

With tears welling in his eyes, Ji Mo smiled and said, "Welcome back."

These were the only, most beautiful words that Bo Zheng ever heard in her life.

Winter passed quickly, and when spring arrived and flowers bloomed, Bo Zheng looked out the window and saw peach blossoms covering the branches, their bright red color incredibly beautiful.

Ji Mo brought over a plate of plum blossom cake, a plate of osmanthus cake, and a bowl of sour plum soup, and held Bo Zheng while feeding her the plum blossom cake.

Bo Zheng stared blankly at Ji Mo, who rubbed her head and said, "You're so beautiful now that you've grown up, why are you still so small?"

Does Ji Mo think she looks beautiful now that she's grown bigger? Bo Zheng is very happy. She wants to tell him that once she digests the power of the Mountain Spirit's Heart, she can grow bigger.

But Ji Mo said, "Today is the last time I'll feed you; I'm getting married."

Bo Zheng felt as if her throat was blocked.

Ji Mo seemed to transform into a nagging old woman that day, constantly nagging. "Mu Rao keeps suspecting that I've fallen for you. She says I always talk about you. But how could that be? You're still so young... I'm just... just scared..."

"I keep thinking about your last smile to me, and it always seems so sad. I'm so afraid that you'll have to pay some terrible price to give me the mountain spirit... I keep dreaming that you're crying."

"Thank goodness, thank goodness you're back... It's so good, it's so good that you're back. I can finally marry Mu Rao with peace of mind." Bo Zheng sat blankly in Ji Mo's arms, listening to his rambling and his worries about her. A mix of happiness and sadness raged in her heart.

She thought, "Oh, so Jimo can't bear to part with me either!"

Then I thought, oh, so you're getting married now that I'm back!

At that moment, she didn't know whether she would rather come back or not.

Suddenly, the door was kicked open.

Mu Rao's hateful gaze slowly tore at Ji Mo: "Since you're so reluctant to part with her, why don't you marry her!"

Bo Zheng snuggled closer to Ji Mo. Ji Mo looked at Mu Rao, then at Bo Zheng, sighed, and said to Mu Rao, "Rao Rao, you can leave."

In an instant, Mu Rao's pupils dilated in disbelief.

Ji Mo repeated, "This is Bo Zheng's room, Rao Rao, you can leave now."

Mu Rao's face turned deathly pale. She glared fiercely at Bo Zheng: "Don't be so smug. Do you think Ji Mo loves you? He knew about your entanglement with your uncle, yet he still sent you back to Cailan Valley. Look how much he loves you!" After saying that, she wiped away her tears and ran out.

Ji Mo held Bo Zheng steadily as he fed her the plum blossom cake in his hand. His voice remained largely unchanged as he gently said, "Here, have a piece."

Bo Zheng turned her head away.

Ji Mo, however, seemed not to notice. He brought the plum blossom cake to Bo Zheng's lips again and coaxed gently, "Good girl, have a bite."

Bo Zheng dodged it once again.

“Go after her, Ji Mo,” Bo Zheng said, her head bowed. “I don’t hate you, and you shouldn’t feel indebted to me. I’m fine, really.”

This time, Ji Mo made a move. He patted Bo Zheng's head and then put her down.

Ji Mo chased after her, and Bo Zheng picked up the plum blossom cake that Ji Mo had taken and ate it in small bites, not leaving a single crumb.

The mountain spirit was born with a body that was half demon and half immortal, making her an extremely sensitive being. How could she not know that Ji Mo's struggle when he asked her for the mountain spirit was an act, and how could she not see the momentary shock on Ji Mo's face when he saw her again?

But she loved him!

As Bo Zheng finished the last bite of plum blossom cake, tears streamed down her face. She loved him, so she didn't care about anything else.

She cut open her chest and took out the Mountain Spirit's Heart. It was a fiery red, warm heart. Wearing it, she would regain her magic power in a month and return to her original form. She longed for Ji Mo to always see her in her true form.

But she couldn't wait any longer.

Ji Mo already has a lover by his side. If she wants to stay with him, she can only remain a little mountain spirit and Ji Mo's pet.

5

Jimo did not return that night.

Jimo still hadn't returned home the next day.

Bo Zheng searched for him everywhere, asking all the demons around her, and finally, she found him by a small river.
