Four

With no room for negotiation, the Gui Fang had no choice but to rally their forces and fight to the death.

The number of people in the capital dwindled, and even the poorest families packed their belongings and fled south for their lives. Suddenly, the vast capital was left with only a few elderly people who wanted to leave but were too weak to do so.

Jimo barely held out for half a month before the capital fell. The moment the Guifang army stormed into the city, the wails of agony in the streets pierced through the heavy walls.

For those elderly people who cannot leave, the capital city is where they have lived their entire lives. Now that the devils have come, they have no choice but to die.

The old woman helped me hide for a long time, but in the end we couldn't escape.

The Guifang people have a penchant for setting fires and massacring cities. To escape the raging flames, my nanny and I had no choice but to come out for refuge. But as soon as we peered out, we were met with gleaming swords and blades.

I was startled, and so were the soldiers.

The soldier shouted something in a foreign language that I couldn't understand.

I slowly straightened up. The men watched me warily, retreating to a position just out of reach of their swords. Yes, I am a demon, therefore, I can still survive for a while. The old woman who came out a step later than me was stabbed through the body.

The faint sound of horses' hooves approached. I slowly turned my head. The man on horseback was in his prime, with the angular features of a Guifang person, the muscular physique of a warrior, and the sharp, savage aura of a king. His gaze lingered on me for a moment before he coldly uttered a single word. The soldiers beside him immediately dragged me away.

I looked at the old woman lying in a pool of blood and sighed. The final outcome was the same; it was only a matter of time. With the fall of Fuyan Pass, I suppose Ji Mo and the Emperor had already perished for their country. In the end, I too would be in the same world as them, kneeling to receive the Emperor's command.

In the square in front of the palace gate, people had already set up bonfires. Bright red blood had already flowed all over the ground, reaching beneath the layers of firewood.

I was tied to the firewood. The man who had been standing there with his hand on his sword, shouting something, had been cheered on by the Guifang soldiers. Suddenly, a flame landed at our feet. The oiled wood burned so quickly.

The thick smoke choked me, making me feel suffocated. The rising heat scorched my cheeks. I can't stand such strong light, and even with my eyes tightly closed, it was still incredibly difficult.

The flames felt like they were about to leap onto my cheeks; the intense heat was unsettling. The flames licked at the surrounding air, and I could hear the cracking of wood beneath my feet. Everything was pushing me toward despair.
