The Master of the Heavens said, "This sword has four names: the first is the 'Immortal-Slaying Sword,' the second is the 'Immortal-Slaying Sword,' the third is the 'Immortal-Trapping Sword,' and the fourth is the 'Immortal-Severing Sword.' This sword hangs upside down above the door, emitting thunderous vibrations. Its sword light is so intense that even a god who has endured countless eons cannot escape its calamity." There was once a praise for this precious sword: "Neither copper nor iron nor steel, it was once hidden beneath Mount Sumeru. It needs no inversion of Yin and Yang forging, yet its sharpness is tempered by water and fire. 'Immortal-Slaying' is sharp, 'Immortal-Slaying' is deadly, 'Immortal-Trapping' emits red light everywhere; 'Immortal-Severing' has endless wondrous transformations, staining the robes of even the greatest immortals with blood."
The Tongtian Sect Leader gave the sword to Duobao Daoist and a Zhuxian Formation Diagram, saying, "Go to Jiepai Pass and stop the Zhou soldiers. See how they treat you." Duobao Daoist left the mountain and went straight to Jiepai Pass.
Meanwhile, when the Daoist Duobao descended to the mortal realm and arrived at Jiepai Pass, it happened to be the time when Jiang Ziya broke through Sishui Pass.
Jiang Ziya led his troops towards Jiepai Pass when a white crane attendant from Jade Void suddenly delivered a message: "We have encountered the Immortal Slaughtering Formation at Jiepai Pass." Ziya was startled and thought to himself, "I don't know what good or bad this matter will bring. I must not act rashly." He also pondered, "If we don't advance, we might miss the appointed time." Just as he was worrying in the hall, a report came: "The Yellow Dragon Immortal has arrived." Ziya greeted him in the main hall, bowed, and they sat down as host and guest. The Yellow Dragon Immortal said, "The Immortal Slaughtering Formation is just ahead; we cannot proceed hastily. Ziya, you should instruct your disciples to erect a thatched hut to welcome all the immortals and extraordinary individuals from various places, to serve our Master, before we proceed." Upon hearing this, Ziya hurriedly ordered Nangong Shi and Wu Ji to set up the thatched hut.
Before long, Guang Chengzi arrived; Chi Jingzi followed. The next day, Ju Liusun, Manjushri Guangfa Tianzun, Puxian Zhenren, Cihang Daoren, and Yuding Zhenren arrived; subsequently, Yun Zhongzi, Taiyi Zhenren, Qingxu Daode Zhenjun, Daoxing Tianzun, and Lingbao Dafashi all arrived one after another. Ziya greeted them one by one, and they all sat down in the thatched hut.
This isn't very well written; the main point is below, but actually, you can skip it.
The Fifty-Two Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation (1)
Just as the Twelve Golden Immortals gathered to discuss the Immortal Slaughtering Sword Formation, Lu Ya arrived.
When Lu Ya arrived, Ziya welcomed him into the thatched hut. After everyone bowed, Guang Chengzi asked, "Brother Dao, what brings you here?"
Lu Ya nodded and said, "I was tainted by the mortal world before, and I have no choice but to come to this tribulation." Everyone else nodded in agreement.
The crowd sat silently to one side, awaiting the arrival of their master, the Primordial Heavenly Venerable. A short while later, a ringing sound was heard in the air. The immortals knew that the Daoist Randeng had arrived. Daoist Lu Ya quickly rose to greet him, but among the Twelve Golden Immortals, only Cihang, Manjushri, Samantabhadra, and Daoist Julusun rose. This was because the Twelve Golden Immortals were still somewhat annoyed with Randeng after the previous battle at the Yellow River Formation, believing that Randeng had retreated in the face of battle, which had led to them suffering the calamity of the Hunyuan Golden Cauldron.
Ran Deng, unaware of the underlying reasons, was annoyed to see that none of the Twelve Golden Immortals, except for four, had come to greet him. Seeing that Guang Chengzi and his group formed their own faction, he grew even angrier, thinking, "My achievements are considerable, yet I am not welcomed by the Chan Sect. I will definitely make trouble for them in the future." With that thought, Ran Deng said, "The Immortal Slaughtering Formation is just ahead. Have any of you fellow Daoists seen it?"
The crowd said, "There's nothing to see ahead." Ran Deng pointed to the gate outside the reed pavilion and said, "That's what's shrouded in red mist." All the fellow Daoists stood up and looked closely.
After Duobao Daoist set up the Immortal Slaughtering Formation at Jiepai Pass, he saw the Xiqi army setting up a reed hut and knew that the disciples of the Chan Sect had arrived. He then gestured with his hand, unleashing a burst of red energy that revealed the formation. The immortals on the reed hut watched as the red energy flashed open, revealing the formation's diagram—truly formidable: a murderous aura emanating from it, dark clouds gathering, strange mist swirling, and a cold wind blowing, sometimes appearing, sometimes disappearing, sometimes rising, sometimes falling, constantly shifting. Among them, Huanglong Zhenren, brimming with courage, declared, "We have broken the precept against killing and are destined to be entangled in the mortal world. Since we have encountered this formation, we shall have a chance to contend with it."
Ran Deng sneered inwardly, thinking: How could you commoners know about the treasures of the ancient sages? But he said aloud: "The sages of old said: 'Observe the good places a thousand times, and do not look at the killing and strife in the human world.'"
Eight or nine of the twelfth-generation disciples were going. Randeng sneered inwardly, but did not stop them. They all rose and descended from the reed hut, and the other disciples followed to see the formation. Upon reaching the formation, they were indeed astonished and bewildered, its strange aura overwhelming. None of the immortals wanted to turn back; they were all captivated by its sight.
Inside the formation, a Zhuxian Sword hung on the east side, a Luxian Sword on the south side, a Xianxian Sword on the west side, and a Juexian Sword on the north side. There were gates and entrances in front, a chilling aura of killing intent emanating from the formation, accompanied by a whistling wind. The crowd, captivated by the sight, heard a song sung within: "War and sword, how can one escape the calamity of Zhuxian? The demons of love and desire, instead ignite the flames of ignorance. Today's hardship is in our hands; life and death are in our own hands. The Jade Void Palace has brought disaster and calamity; the Heart-Piercing Lock, only now do we realize the past was a lie. A storm has arisen so close. How can we escape this time? Only by relying on ourselves can we survive; sooner or later, we will suffer defeat!"
As Duobao Daoist was singing within the formation, Ran Deng said, "Fellow Daoists, listen to this song! Is this the work of a kind person? Let us all return to our thatched huts and await the arrival of our Master, who will then deal with us accordingly." Before he finished speaking and was about to turn around, Duobao Daoist leaped out of the formation, sword in hand, shouting, "Guang Chengzi, don't go! I'm coming!" Guang Chengzi roared, "Duobao Daoist, we are no longer in your Biyou Palace, relying on your numbers to bully me repeatedly; moreover, your Master gave instructions, which you have completely disobeyed, and you have set up this Immortal Slaughtering Formation. Since we have broken the precept against killing, you are all destined for calamity, hence this karmic obstacle. As the saying goes, 'If Yama decrees death at midnight, how can he let anyone live until dawn?'!" Guang Chengzi drew his sword to attack Duobao Daoist. The Daoist returned the sword to his face. How could one see: gusts of immortal wind swirled dust, and four swords frantically met the attack, their shadows slanting wildly. One was a True Person from the Jade Void Palace; the other was the eldest disciple of the Intercepting Sect. One possessed the immortal body of Guangcheng; the other was Duobao, a Western disciple who worshipped Shakyamuni. Both sects, facing a period of impending doom, found themselves in utter chaos at the Immortal Slaughtering Array.
The two fought fiercely. Guang Chengzi, having just suffered a calamity, had not yet recovered his magical power and cultivation, and was no match for Duobao Daoist. He paused his sword strike, then unleashed the Fantian Seal at Duobao. Duobao Daoist could not dodge in time, and the seal struck him squarely in the back, causing him to stumble and fall. It turned out that Duobao, being an extraordinary being who had attained enlightenment, possessed an indestructible body. Furthermore, Guang Chengzi's cultivation had not recovered, and even with the Fantian Seal, he could not break through Duobao's outer defenses. Just as he got up, he saw other members of the Chan Sect also approaching with their treasures. Duobao realized he was no match for them, so he retreated into the formation.
