Shui Yanling seemed to have thought of something, but she didn't say anything, only keeping a faint sense of vigilance around her.

"Be careful, this tree is extremely dangerous. Pay close attention to your footing, some of the vines are hidden underground."

Grandpa stretched out a hand to shield us behind him, carefully observing the surrounding situation.

The sounds, like a child's cry, continued to echo from the surrounding woods. Huge vines slowly crawled across the ground, resembling enormous snakes, a sight that sent chills down one's spine.

Chapter Fifty-Seven: All Burned

Suddenly, the sounds around us grew louder, and the vines sped up, rushing towards us from all directions as if to surround us completely.

Seeing this, I pulled the water droplets closer to Grandpa, carefully wary of the wildly waving vines.

The vines seemed to understand human nature; instead of rushing over directly, they continuously coiled into a circle, completely enveloping us and leaving us no way out, as if they intended to trap us to death.

Grandpa's face darkened when he saw this. He hadn't expected this situation before. It had never happened before when he came here. He didn't know why these man-eating trees were acting like they were crazy today. Even the king of the man-eating trees inside wouldn't communicate with him.

Fang Shuang naturally didn't know, but he knew very well that these trees were transplanted by Fang Shuang's father back then, just to protect and hide what was inside.

These trees have always obeyed Fang Shuang's father's orders and have always guarded this place. Even the thing on the mountain is somewhat afraid of this forest, so it has never invaded this place, and they have lived in peace until now.

Logically, this shouldn't have happened. After all, Fang Shuang was brought here by him, and Shui Yanling had been with Fang Shuang's parents before, so she had a trace of their aura on her. This man-eating tree couldn't possibly be like this.

Just as Grandpa was pondering, the surrounding vines were almost in front of him. Suddenly, Grandpa shouted, and a peach wood sword appeared in his hand, followed by several pieces of yellow paper.

Grandpa stared at the vine, then pointed forward with his peach wood sword. The three pieces of yellow paper spun rapidly and then suddenly burst into flames, but didn't move. Grandpa shouted again, and a huge ball of flame suddenly rose from the three burning yellow papers, then transformed into a fire dragon that swept towards the encircling vine.

With a "sizzle," the vines seemed to be alive. They stopped moving forward when burned by the flames, and tumbled in the air like a living thing being burned.

"Ah, it's so hot, so hot!" Countless children's voices came from the nearby trees, as if they were real living people, their expressions distorted, and blood slowly flowing from the tree trunks at the corners of their mouths.

Seeing this made me feel a little more at ease. Sure enough, the effect of fire on trees and similar objects was quite noticeable.

However, Grandpa's expression didn't seem much more relaxed, and he didn't even stop what he was doing, taking out a few more pieces of yellow paper from his pocket.

Shui Yanling was also on guard, but she couldn't reveal her identity directly to Fang Shuang. Otherwise, given the resistance of these trees to fire, she was confident that a single black flame could burn the entire forest down.

Sure enough, those distorted faces quickly turned into angry expressions, and the branches of the entire forest shook wildly.

"Kill them, kill them!" angry voices came from all around, and the vines that had been burned off had grown back, and even more vines stretched over from a greater distance.

Suddenly, the overwhelming vines surrounded us once again, and this time they didn't even need to test us; they were even more brutal, with the vines whipping at us like lashes.

Grandpa seemed to have anticipated this. The yellow paper in his hand flashed again, and then a burst of flames set all the vines ablaze, instantly turning the vines that were being swung over into a sea of fire.

Before we could even breathe a sigh of relief, we saw that after the vines that had just been burned fell down, even more vines surged up from behind, covering the sky and seeming endless, as if they could never be burned out.

Grandpa didn't stop again. He took out more yellow paper, and another fire dragon shot through the vines. Then he swung his peach wood sword at the surrounding tree trunks.

Grandpa seemed to be at a loss when he saw the endless vines, because he didn't have many yellow papers left in his arms, and he had to come up with a solution.

That's why Grandpa used the peach wood sword to swing at the surrounding tree trunks, seemingly trying to see if he could eliminate the man-eating tree at its source.

The peach wood sword slashed fiercely at the surrounding tree trunks. Suddenly, the trees nearby were slashed by the peach wood sword, and large wounds appeared on their bodies, from which bright red blood flowed.

The sap of this man-eating tree was just like human blood, which shocked me even more.

Sure enough, after Grandpa cut the trunks of these trees, the speed at which the vines surged forward slowed down.

The trees that had been cut down made sounds like children crying, and the entire forest shook. The faces on the trees looked like those of children in pain, their expressions filled with agony. The branches even seemed to be anthropomorphically covering the wounds inflicted by Grandpa as if they were hands.

I was startled. Was it a person or a tree? If it was a tree, this was too strange! Grandpa didn't have time to think too much, because after he cut the tree, his heart sank. The peach wood sword was covered in the sap of the ghost tree after it struck the tree. The blood-like sap enveloped the peach wood sword.
