Although my maternal grandfather was a charlatan, he was genuinely good to me, and he tried his best to fulfill all my requests since I was little.
Although I was often gossiped about by other kids my age because my grandfather was an Onmyoji, I never blamed him. On the contrary, I was very grateful to him. It seems that my grandfather only had one daughter, my mother. He often said that because of his profession, he had committed too many sins and was burdened with too many karmic consequences, which was why he had no children.
So my grandfather always treated me like his own son, but there was one thing he never told me, and that was about my parents.
I remember when I was little, I was insulted by other kids my age who said I was an orphan and had no parents. I was so angry that I ran to confront my grandfather.
But Grandpa didn't say anything. He just squatted silently by the door and smoked his pipe all afternoon. When he came back inside, he said to me, "You're not an orphan. You have the best parents in the world. When you're a little older, I'll tell you about your parents."
From then on, I never asked about my parents again. No matter how much they talked behind my back or scolded me, I never said anything about my parents to my grandfather.
"Hey, Xiaoshuang, why aren't you saying anything?" Grandpa's voice came from the other end of the phone, instantly pulling me out of my memories.
I chuckled and said, "I'm listening, I'm listening, go ahead." Grandpa suddenly lowered his voice on the other end of the phone and said, "I think you're probably missing me, aren't you? You're probably impatient and want to marry Yanling, hahaha." Hearing Grandpa's words, I was speechless. What was all this about?
Grandpa's voice continued, "That's right, after all, Xiao Shuang'er isn't young anymore, it's time for her to get married. How about it? Are you satisfied with your daughter-in-law?" I looked at Yanling, who was busy in the kitchen, and a smile appeared on my lips.
"Yes, yes, I'm satisfied, I'm satisfied. The only thing my parents have ever done for me is to find me such a good wife," I said helplessly.
However, my grandfather on the other end of the phone was somewhat silent. I knew that this was how he was whenever my parents were mentioned.
"Okay, Grandpa, I'll hang up now. Yanling will come back with me later, remember to buy lots of good food." I quickly changed the subject, not wanting to make Grandpa sad.
"Okay, okay, okay," Grandpa hung up the phone.
My grandfather once told me that he would tell me about my parents when I grew up. Thinking about the ghostly hand on my body and the jade pendant my parents left me, I fell into deep thought once again.
It's time to ask my grandfather about my parents. I have a feeling that there must be some connection between my parents and this ghostly hand on my body, and that there must be some important secret about me.
Whether it's the origin of the "ghost hand" or why the shaman said I owed a life, it all seems like a huge mystery shrouding me in it.
Only by figuring out what happened can I survive; otherwise, I'm sure I'll die at the hands of this devil.
"Dinner's ready," Shui Yanling's voice came from the kitchen. "Go wash your face and get ready to eat."
I shook my head, ending my reverie. After all, thinking so much was pointless; I could only wait until I saw Grandpa before making a decision.
The most important thing right now is to eat. I'm really hungry. I looked out the window and it was already past midnight. I left the police station yesterday evening because I was so worried about Shui Yanling's safety that I left in a hurry without even eating. Now I'm starving.
Soon, Shui Yanling and I were sitting at the dining table. We stared blankly at the food in front of us, and Shui Yanling seemed a little embarrassed.
The dishes were fine, but the rice... well, someone who didn't know better would think it was made with black rice.
Shui Yanling looked a little guilty and quickly waved her hand when she saw me struggling to eat. "Eat more vegetables, eat more vegetables."
I shook my head with a wry smile, picked up the bowl of dark rice, and then shoveled it into my mouth like a starving ghost.
And for some reason, although the food didn't look as good as her previous cooking, I actually ate it with great relish, maybe because I was starving.

While eating, he kept praising her cooking, saying that even burnt rice could be made so delicious.
Clearly, Shui Yanling was very pleased with these words. She sat to the side, covering her mouth and chuckling, while also keeping serving me food.
"If you like it, eat more. Nobody's going to take it from you."
"Mmm," I mumbled in response.
My head was almost inside the bowl, but my hands didn't slow down; I quickly shoved the food into my mouth.
They quickly devoured a large bowl of rice, leaving the table in a complete mess.
Shui Yanling smiled as she helped me add rice. Looking at her slender figure with her back to me, I couldn't help but sigh, "What does it matter if life is bitter? As long as my beloved is with me, that's all that matters." With delicious food by my side and a beautiful woman beside me, I am truly living the life of an immortal.
Then he said to himself, "Good poem, good verse."
Faced with my teasing, Shui Yanling blushed, glared at me, and then threw the bowl of black pearl rice at me.
I caught it, shook my head, suddenly stood up, and bowed slightly, saying, "Thank you, my lady." Seeing my expression, Shui Yanling finally couldn't help but roll her eyes at me.
I scratched my head, chuckled, and continued fighting.
