I couldn't resist any longer, so I cautiously peeked out from behind the rock and looked into the cave.
The main force of the ghostly soldiers had completely disappeared, leaving only six ghostly soldiers holding long spears at the very back of the procession, as if they were there specifically to cover the rear.
I stared at their backs from behind the rocks and noticed that these ghostly soldiers wore long crowns on their heads, like clubs, and their bodies looked like corpses just dug out of the ground.
What surprised me most was that their bodies didn't touch the ground; instead, they seemed to float in the air, without any walking motion, just floating forward.
I was even more stunned, but I was also very curious. But then an unexpected thing happened. One of the ghost soldiers in the last row suddenly stopped and just floated in place.
I was a little confused, so I stretched my head forward a bit more to get a better look, but the ghostly soldier suddenly turned around and stared straight at my exposed head.
It was an unusually long face, which at first glance resembled a horse's face. Its complexion was extremely pale, and its eyes seemed to be covered with a layer of gray. It stared straight at me.
The instant the ghostly soldiers turned their heads, my mind went completely blank, as if struck by lightning. My thoughts seemed to be unrestrained, and my body seemed to freeze in place.
Then I realized that I seemed to have fallen into a strange state, and my body was moving forward involuntarily.
Grandpa was still wondering why this was here when he suddenly realized that something seemed off about me.
"Oh no!" Grandpa exclaimed, then quickly turned around and pinned me down. Shui Yanling and Grandpa held me tightly together, preventing me from moving forward.
At that moment, I seemed to have lost my mind and started struggling, my eyes vacant as if I wanted to go with the ghostly soldiers.
And for some reason, I was incredibly strong at that moment. It seemed that Grandpa and Yanling couldn't hold me down, and I broke free from them and ran towards the Yin soldiers.
Chapter Sixty-Eight: A Moment of Anxiety
Grandpa's eyes widened in alarm, and he quickly pulled out another piece of yellow paper from his pocket, waved it in the air, and then stuck it straight to my forehead.
After the yellow paper was pasted on, my previously empty eyes slowly returned to normal. My whole body felt as if I had been beaten by many people, and I had no strength left.
When I came to my senses, I suddenly realized that I was almost out of the rock, and Grandpa was on top of me, while Shui Yanling was holding my arm tightly.
Directly in front of me, the ghostly soldier saw that I had regained my senses and then gave me an extremely eerie smile. Coupled with its unusually long human face, it sent shivers down my spine.
Thinking back to my strange behavior at the beginning, a layer of hair instantly rose on my back. Just now, I seemed to be bewitched and actually wanted to walk towards those ghostly soldiers.
Once I was back to normal, my grandfather and Yanling quickly pulled me back behind the rocks, and I felt a wave of fear wash over me.
When they looked back from behind the rocks, the ghostly soldiers that had been floating there had disappeared.
We hid behind the rocks for a long time, until it seemed that nothing else had happened, before we finally breathed a sigh of relief.
"Grandpa, what just happened to me?" I quickly asked my grandpa. The situation was just too strange, and I still felt a chill of fear.
Grandpa paused, then glanced at the spot where the ghostly soldiers had disappeared, and slowly said, "When the ghostly soldiers pass through, if there are any living people nearby, they will definitely suffer from the backlash of this yin energy. At best, they will fall seriously ill; at worst, they will lose their lives!" "That's why I told you to hide quickly and not look at those ghostly soldiers. Your cultivation is not high enough, and under the backlash of this yin energy, you will naturally lose yourself. Fortunately, we stopped you in time, otherwise I'm afraid your soul would have been taken away by them, and you would have become a ghostly soldier like them, wandering in the Three Realms."
Hearing Grandpa's words, I was secretly relieved that Grandpa and Yanling were by my side.
"But what exactly is this place? How could such a strange thing appear here?"
I looked at my grandfather with some confusion. Who exactly were my parents? Why would they leave something for me in a place like this?
Grandpa shook his head. "I don't know either. I've been here a few times before, but I've never seen any ghost soldiers passing through!" Even Grandpa didn't know. I couldn't help but feel a little scared. What did my parents leave me? And where did these ghost soldiers come from?
Grandpa didn't say much, just patted my shoulder and said, "Come with me." Grandpa then walked out from behind the rock by himself, and Yanling helped me up from the ground. After what had just happened, I had no strength left in my body, as if all my energy had been drained, and I could barely stand.
"Are you alright? You need to be more careful in the future and not be so impulsive."
I smiled helplessly at Yanling and said, "I'm fine, I just need to rest for a bit. Let's hurry up and catch up!" "Okay," Yanling nodded and helped me catch up with Grandpa.
Now we can finally see the whole picture. Before, we were hiding behind the rocks and could only see bits and pieces through the cracks in the rocks, which was far less direct than what we can see now.
For some reason, the blue mist in the canyon did not disappear after the ghost soldiers passed through, but it was dimmer than before and not as intense.
