The Daoist Zhunti commanded his Water and Fire Attendants, "Bring the Six Roots of Purity Bamboo to fish!" The attendants lowered the bamboo branches into the air, and the branches emitted boundless radiance, enveloping Wuyun Xian; Wuyun Xian could no longer escape the calamity of being revealed. Zhunti shouted, "Wuyun Xian, if you don't reveal your true form now, when will you?" Wuyun Xian shook his head, transforming into a golden-bearded serpent, its tail slung, and it took the bait. The attendants stepped forward, pressed down on Wuyun Xian's head, mounted the serpent's back, and headed straight for the Eight Virtues Pond in the west.
Zhunti Daoist, having received the gold, hurried to the front of the Ten Thousand Immortals Formation. Upon seeing Zhunti, the Tongtian Sect Leader's face contorted with rage, his eyes turning red, and he roared, "Zhunti Daoist, you've come to challenge my formation again today! I will not let you get away with this!" Zhunti Daoist laughed, "Immortal Wuyun and I are destined to meet. I used the Six Roots Purification Bamboo to fish him to the Western Eight Virtues Pond, where he lives freely and unhindered. He is far superior to you, who are entangled in this mortal world." The Tongtian Sect Leader, enraged, was about to fight Zhunti when a song emerged from within the Taiji Formation: "The Great Dao is not the ordinary Dao, the mystery within mystery is even more mysterious. Who can comprehend it, and see the Primordial Chaos within reach?"
Within the Taiji Formation, the wisp-headed immortal emerged, sword in hand: "Who dares to enter my formation and challenge me to a duel?" The Daoist Zhunti laughed, "Manjushri, the Heavenly Venerable of Vast Dharma, I'll lend you this predestined guest." With that, Zhunti pointed a finger at Manjushri's crown, and his Niwan acupoint opened again, emitting three lights and swirling auspicious energy. The Primordial Heavenly Venerable handed Manjushri a banner, named the Pangu Banner, saying, "It can break this Taiji Formation." Manjushri, the Heavenly Venerable of Vast Dharma, received the banner, composed a verse, and departed: "The primordial energy is paramount; through countless eons of cultivation, one unites with the Great Mystery."
Do not say that there are many changes within; when mercury and lead are eliminated, boundless blessings will follow.
After Manjushri Bodhisattva finished singing, Qiu Shou Xian shouted, "Today's achievements are all due to the manifestation of our respective teachings; no need for further words!" He then swung his sword at Manjushri Bodhisattva. Manjushri Bodhisattva quickly parried with his own sword. Before they had exchanged more than a few blows, Qiu Shou Xian rushed into the formation. Manjushri Bodhisattva pursued him swiftly. Qiu Shou Xian entered the formation and immediately activated his talismans. The formation became like an iron wall or a copper wall, with weapons piled up like mountains. Manjushri Bodhisattva unfurled the Pangu Banner, suppressing the Taiji Formation, and then revealed his Dharma body. How could one not see it? A eulogy testifies to it: His face was as blue as indigo, his hair red and his beard crimson. His entire body was adorned with auspicious five colors, and golden light protected him throughout. The Vajra Pestle rolled with red flames; golden lotuses danced with swirling rosy light. Truly: Within the Taiji Formation, the Great Law manifests its mighty light, and auspicious clouds enveloped all directions.
Qiu Shou Xian was astonished to see Guangfa Tianzun manifest an incarnation. The incarnation was adorned with fragrant breezes, jewels, and lotus blossoms supporting its feet—a technique known as the Golden Body of the Western Sect. Qiu Shou Xian had never seen such magic before and was helpless against it, so he tried to flee. Manjushri quickly summoned the Demon-Binding Rope and ordered the Yellow Turban Warriors, "Take him to the reed pavilion and await your judgment." Guangfa Tianzun withdrew the incarnation, slowly emerged from the formation, and ascended the pavilion to meet Yuanshi, saying, "This disciple has broken the Taiji Formation."
The Primordial Lord commanded the Antarctic Immortal: "Go to the reed hut and force the Curly-Headed Immortal to reveal his true form." The Immortal obeyed and went to the hut, where he found the Curly-Headed Immortal bound in a ball. The Antarctic Immortal chanted incantations to the Curly-Headed Immortal, saying, "Hurry! Quickly reveal your true form, what are you waiting for!" The Curly-Headed Immortal shook his head twice, rolled on the ground, and transformed into a blue-maned lion, its tail trimmed and head shaking, quite majestic. The Antarctic Immortal then reported back to the Primordial Lord of Heaven's command. Yuanshi instructed, "Order Guangfa Tianzun's mount to hang a plaque around its neck, inscribed with the name of Qiushou Xian." The next day, Laozi and Yuanshi personally went to the front of the battle and asked, "Where is Tongtian Jiaozhu?" His attendants reported to Tongtian Jiaozhu, who went straight to the front of the battle. Laozi ordered Manjushri to ride the green lion to the front, and Laozi pointed it out to Tongtian Jiaozhu, saying, "Your disciples have such creatures, yet you still pretend to be morally superior. It's truly laughable!" This made Tongtian Jiaozhu blush with shame and furiously say, "Do you dare to break our Two Righteousness Formation again?"
Before Laozi could reply, Lingya Xian shouted from within the Yin-Yang Formation, "Who dares to break my Yin-Yang Formation?" Indeed: Within his sleeve, the universe is turned upside down; within the Yin-Yang Formation, the winner is decided.
Lingya Immortal emerged from the formation and asked, "Who dares to face this formation?" Yuanshi ordered Puxian Zhenren, "Go and break this formation." He then gave the Taiji Talisman to Puxian Zhenren. When the Zhenren arrived at the formation, he said, "Lingya Immortal, if you were to take human form, why do you not stay in your place and instead cause all this trouble? I fear you will reveal your true form in the near future, and then it will be too late for regrets."
Enraged, Lingya Xian charged forward with his two swords. Puxian Zhenren, wielding his own sword, swiftly met him. Before they had exchanged more than a few blows, Lingya Xian fled into the Yin-Yang Formation; Puxian Zhenren pursued him into the formation. Lingya Xian unleashed the wondrous power of Yin and Yang, displaying the profound skills of the Jie Sect, unleashing thunder to trap Puxian Zhenren. Puxian Zhenren then manifested an incarnation in his Niwan Palace, a truly ferocious sight. As the saying goes: His face was like a purple date, his mouth enormous with fangs. In an instant, red clouds enveloped his head, and auspicious colors enveloped his golden body. Jeweled necklaces adorned his entire body, and lotus flowers supported his feet amidst auspicious clouds. He had three heads and six arms, wielding a sharp weapon, a demon-subduing pestle in his hand.
It is said that the True Man Samantabhadra revealed his true form, subdued the Spirit Tooth Immortal, and still used the Rainbow Rope. He ordered the Yellow Turban Warriors, "Take the Spirit Tooth Immortal to the reed hut and await further instructions." The True Man Samantabhadra broke the Yin-Yang Formation and went directly to the reed hut to pay his respects to Laozi. Laozi ordered the Antarctic Immortal, "Quickly reveal the Spirit Tooth Immortal's true form." The Antarctic Immortal obeyed the order and struck the Spirit Tooth Immortal several times with his Three Treasures Jade Ruyi. The Spirit Tooth Immortal rolled on the ground, revealing his true form, which was a white elephant. Laozi instructed, "Hang a plaque around the white elephant's neck, inscribed with the Spirit Tooth Immortal's name, and have it serve as the mount of the True Man Samantabhadra." The True Man Samantabhadra obeyed the order and took the elephant away.

They returned to the front of the formation. Tongtian Jiaozhu saw the Green Lion on the left and the White Elephant on the right, and was furious. Just as he was about to step forward, Jin Guangxian from the Four Symbols Formation shouted, "Disciples of the Chan Sect, do not be reckless! I am coming!" He then composed a song and went out, singing: "The wondrous methods are boundless, body and mind unite mercury and lead. Now I lead the Four Symbols Formation, why should I say more about the Daoist arts?"
With two fingers I subdue dragons and tigers, with eyes brimming with profound mystery. Whoever comes to meet me, that is the true immortal.
When Yuanshi saw that Jin Guangxian had emerged from the Four Symbols Formation and was incredibly brave, he quickly instructed Cihang Daoren, "Hold the Ruyi Jingu Bang firmly and enter the Four Symbols Formation. You must do this and that, and the transformations will be endless. Why worry about not breaking this formation? This is your destined mount." Cihang Daoren then composed a song and went out, which went: "I have a good reputation at the foot of Putuo Cliff. After completing my tribulation, I will return to my roots and go back to the Jade Capital."
