The teachings were personally imparted in Biyou Palace, and all the disciples of the Chan Sect suffered calamity.
Bixiao Niangniang unleashed the Hunyuan Golden Cauldron into the air. Lu Ya saw it and tried to flee; however, the treasure was so powerful that with a single sound, it seized Lu Ya and slammed him against the camp of the Tang Dynasty. Lu Ya, despite his mysterious powers, was knocked unconscious. Bixiao Niangniang personally bound him, sealed his Niwan Palace with a talisman, and tied him to a banner pole. She said to Grand Tutor Wen, "He can shoot my brother; this time, I will shoot him!" She ordered five hundred archers to shoot. Arrows rained down, striking Lu Ya; in a moment, the arrows, shafts and arrowheads, turned to ash. The soldiers were greatly alarmed. Grand Tutor Wen, observing this, was utterly astonished. Yunxiao Niangniang, seeing this, said, "What strange tricks does this demon use to bewitch us!" She quickly summoned the Golden Dragon Scissors. Lu Ya saw this, cried out, "I'm leaving!" and transformed into a rainbow, departing on his own; he arrived at Penglai and met his fellow Daoists.
Jiang Ziya stepped forward and asked, "How did you get the Hunyuan Golden Cauldron back after it took you away?" Lu Ya laughed and said, "He shot an arrow at me, wanting to avenge his brother. He didn't know my background; the arrow hit me, turning to ashes at close range. When he released the Golden Dragon Scissors, I came back on my own." Ziya laughed and said, "Your skill is truly admirable!" Lu Ya smiled and ignored him.
Seeing Lu Ya flee, the Three Immortals of Sanxiao resumed their battle, but Xiqi refused to engage and refused to fight. They were helpless. Zhang Tianjun, the master of the "Red Sand Formation," said, "Xiqi sees that our forces are unstoppable and refuses to fight. Why don't we set up the Red Sand Formation and then deal with them?" The Three Immortals of Sanxiao did not understand military strategy, but they agreed.
Two days later, Zhang Tianjun stepped forward and shouted to the Xiqi side, "Today I will set up the Red Sand Formation again. Do you dare to fight?"
After Xiqi Xianzi left, the crowd pushed out Guang Chengzi. Guang Chengzi had no choice but to say, "You set up the formation, and I will break it later."
Seeing that they had agreed, Zhang Tianjun went to set up the formation. A short while later, the "Red Sand Formation" was complete. Guang Chengzi looked up and saw that bells were ringing continuously inside, and the red sand inside was so thick that he couldn't see anything. Guang Chengzi thought to himself that he probably couldn't break it, so he discussed it with the other members of the Chan Sect. Chi Jingzi, who had more experience, said, "This 'Red Sand Formation' is a very evil formation. Only a fortunate person can ensure its safety. If no fortunate person tries to break this formation, there will be great losses."
Jiang Ziya asked, "May I ask, senior brother, who is the one who is blessed?"
Chi Jingzi said, "Only the current Holy Lord can break the 'Red Sand Formation.' If it is someone else, the odds are against them."
Jiang Ziya was greatly surprised and said, "The current emperor embodies the benevolence of the former king but is not skilled in martial arts. How can he break this formation?"
Guang Chengzi said, "There is no time to lose. Quickly invite King Wu. We have a plan."
Left with no other option, Jiang Ziya sent for King Wu, Ji Fa. A short while later, King Wu arrived at the awning. Ziya greeted him and led him up. King Wu saw the assembled Taoist priests and bowed. The priests returned the bow. King Wu asked, "What instructions do you have for me, my esteemed teachers, who have invited me?"
Guang Chengzi said, "So far, nine of the ten formations have been broken, leaving only the 'Red Sand Formation.' Only when His Majesty personally breaks it can we be assured of safety. But I wonder if Your Majesty is willing to go?"
Upon hearing this, Ji Fa glanced at the Red Sand Formation opposite him, his heart pounding with anxiety. He had long heard of the extremely ferocious Ten Deadly Formations, and even the first nine took a considerable amount of time to break. Now, this "Red Sand Formation" would likely be just as difficult to break, and his life was in grave danger. After thinking this through, King Wu feigned reluctance and said, "Esteemed Daoists, you have come here because of the unrest and turmoil in the Western Lands, and have come to offer your assistance. However, I am usually only concerned with civil affairs and am not skilled in martial arts. Even if I were to go today, I fear I would not be able to break this formation."
Guang Chengzi was very anxious. "King Wu, please do not worry. We have special techniques to help you break the formation, and we will ensure your safety." He added, "Furthermore, this formation cannot be broken by anyone but King Wu. If we fail to break it, we will be trapped here, which will be very disadvantageous for Xiqi." Everyone agreed.
King Wu had no choice but to comply, and he removed his belt and robe. Guang Chengzi used his middle finger to make a talisman mark on King Wu's chest, front and back. After finishing, he asked King Wu to put on his robe and then placed another talisman inside King Wu's dragon crown.
King Wu was trapped in the Forty-Four Red Sand Formation.
Meanwhile, the members of the Chan Sect, unable to break the "Red Sand Formation," invited King Wu, Ji Fa, to attempt it. Ji Fa, left with no other choice, went to break the formation himself. Jiang Ziya then ordered Nezha and Lei Zhenzi to protect King Wu as he descended from the hut. Inside the "Red Sand Formation," two Taoist priests appeared, wearing fish-tail crowns, with faces as green as frozen jade, and red beards under their chins. They carried two swords and sang as they approached. The song went: "Few understand the teachings of the Jie Sect; the profound mysteries within hold heavenly secrets; first, golden powder is formed in the furnace, then endless white jade mist is refined."
Red sands fall, hearts ache; black mists drift, courage and spirits soar.
If we meet at the Dragon and Tiger Land today, even the most divine souls will depart.
Zhang Shao, the master of the "Red Sand Formation," shouted, "Who among the disciples of the Jade Void Sect dares to challenge my formation?"
Then came Nezha, riding his Wind-Fire Wheels and wielding his Fire-Tipped Spear. Next, Lei Zhenzi appeared, accompanied by a man wearing a dragon-patterned crown and yellow robes. Zhang Shao asked curiously, "Who are these people?"
Nezha replied, "This is my King Wu." King Wu, seeing Zhang Tianjun's ferocious and savage appearance, trembled with fear and could no longer remain seated on his saddle. Zhang Tianjun spurred his deer and charged at him with his sword. Nezha mounted his Wind-Fire Wheels and swung his spear to meet him. Before they had exchanged more than a few blows, Zhang Tianjun retreated to his own camp. Nezha and Lei Zhenzi escorted King Wu directly into the "Red Sand Formation."
Seeing the three arrive, Zhang Tianjun rushed onto the platform and hurled a cloud of red sand down at them. King Wu was struck in the chest by the sand, and he and his horse crashed into the pit. He cursed the Chan Sect members inwardly for making him suffer by breaking the formation, yet he had no choice but to rely on them, and cried out in despair. Nezha, riding on his Wind-Fire Wheels, rose into the air, intending to save him, but Zhang Shao then unleashed three more sandstorms, knocking Nezha down into the pit as well. Lei Zhenzi, seeing the situation was dire, tried to use his Wind-Thunder Wings, but was also knocked down into the pit by several more sandstorms. Thus, the "Red Sand Formation" trapped King Wu and his two companions.
Meanwhile, Guang Chengzi and the others, along with Ziya, saw a black aura rising from within the "Red Sand Formation." Guang Chengzi said, "Although King Wu is facing a calamity, it can be resolved in a hundred days."
