During the reign of Qin Shi Huang, Ying Zheng also possessed the bloodline of the Wu tribe, but he was not yet a Great Wu. For these Wu people, not being a Great Wu meant that due to the genetic influence of human bloodlines, they would one day experience birth, aging, sickness, and death. Therefore, he issued an edict to Bai Qi, instructing him to accelerate the training of troops and find a way to liberate everyone from the suffering of the six realms of reincarnation. Bai Qi, naturally not wanting his efforts to be in vain, pondered for a long time and finally decided to use the ancestral Wu mark of Houtu to forge twelve golden statues, forming the Twelve Heavenly Gods and Demons Formation to awaken the power of the twelve ancestral Wu of the primordial world.
Bai Qi gathered twelve of the most outstanding figures, including Ying Zheng, Wang Jian, Heng Qi, and Meng Ao, to secretly align with the Twelve Heavenly Golden Men. This would attract the power of the Ancestral Witches, allowing them to usurp the Ancestral Witches' power and grant Ying Zheng and the others their divine abilities. The Yin energy of the Earthly Fiends, the ghostly energy of the Netherworld, and the malevolent spirit energy are the dark energies most needed by the Witch Gods. These energies are most abundant in the Underworld, but the Immortal Realm is filled with various sects and numerous cultivators, making it unsuitable for such a large-scale operation. Therefore, Bai Qi risked being discovered by the Heavenly Court and entered the Avici Hell.
Given Bai Qi's cultivation level and his ability to conceal himself, his actions would not have been discovered. Furthermore, there are members of the Witch Clan in the Underworld, which everyone understands. Even if someone accidentally discovered it, they would simply ignore it and might even help cover it up.
Yet, it was still discovered. This must have been deliberately leaked by someone—and who? It was none other than Laozi (Taishang Laojun). Besides a few sages, who else could have foreseen such a clear outcome? After the shattering of the primordial world, Earth was practically an abandoned land. Those with even a little cultivation focused their attention on the Immortal Realm; who would bother with an abandoned planet? Bai Qi's retreat from Earth to the Underworld was originally a very discreet affair, but it was precisely this that Laozi managed to outmaneuver.
During the Warring States period, the Western Zhou court possessed the Nine Dragons Star Crown, which represented the legitimacy of the human emperor. The Eastern Zhou, on the other hand, held the legitimacy of the Human Religion. The two sides did not recognize each other, but compared to the Human Religion, the people of the prehistoric world were more willing to believe in the Nine Dragons Star Crown. Therefore, the Eastern Zhou court never gained the trust of the people.
Fortunately, the Western Zhou Dynasty was plagued by war, so Laozi was not worried. Once the Western Zhou Dynasty was destroyed, he would let the Eastern Zhou Dynasty enter the Southern Jambudvipa in a large-scale invasion and occupy the Southern Jambudvipa with the influence of the Zhou Dynasty. Then, he would use other means to force the orthodox human race to switch to the Human Religion, thus achieving his original intention of establishing the Human Religion.
However, now that Ying Zheng has emerged, things are not easy to handle. Ying Zheng is the destined emperor to unify the world; his destiny rests on his shoulders, and even a sage like Laozi cannot stop him. The only solution for Laozi now is to eliminate Ying Zheng before he unifies the chaos of war. In this respect, it seems that the Heavenly Court has been used by him again, and Bai Qi has become a target of his schemes. Although Ying Zheng has the bloodline of a great shaman, he is not yet a great shaman. Due to the innate bloodline of the human race, his lifespan is ultimately limited. Eliminating Bai Qi would prevent Bai Qi from transforming Ying Zheng into a great shaman, and it would also delay the unification of the Southern Continent, keeping the Southern Continent in chaos and unable to deal with the Eastern Continent. After Ying Zheng dies, Laozi can use other clever moves to control the Western Zhou court and take over. At that time, the human race will return to the control of the Human Sect.
The methods of a sage, whether in scheming or in supernatural powers, are all incredibly ingenious. Laozi only slightly revealed Bai Qi's situation before the people of the underworld learned of it. The Ten Kings of Hell knew the seriousness of the matter and, after sending their underworld soldiers and generals to stop him to no avail, they joined forces with the Emperor of Fengdu to petition the Jade Emperor. This triggered a series of events, leading to the High God Gouchen descending to earth to confront Bai Qi.
Thirty-five to kill
Meanwhile, Gou Chen led his followers down to the mortal realm and rushed towards Bai Qi's cultivation place. His divine sense had already located that unique man the moment he arrived on Earth, and Bai Qi had also sensed Gou Chen's arrival the moment he appeared in the mortal world.
Bai Qi knelt on the table, drinking wine from his cup, completely ignoring Gou Chen's arrival. Gou Chen stood outside Bai Qi's tent, looking at the elegant and refined man before him, finding it hard to believe that he was the infamous great sorcerer. A ridiculous thought even arose in his mind: he wanted to befriend him.
Bai Qi finally spoke, saying, "Since you're here, why not come in and have a drink?"
Upon hearing this, Gou Chen used his hand to stop his beloved general, the God of War of the Sky, from dissuading him. For some reason, he actually said, "Alright!" and then strode forward.
Bai Qi and Gou Chen chatted and laughed like old friends who hadn't seen each other for years, making one feel a sense of mutual respect between heroes. Bai Qi then asked, "We've talked for so long, yet I still don't know your name, brother. Could you please tell me?"
So his name was Bai Qi. Gou Chen finally knew the man's name and, without being impolite, replied, "It is Bi Fang."
Bai Qi laughed and said, "So it is the Great Emperor Gouchen of the Demon Clan who has arrived! It is my fault for being so impolite! The Heavenly Court values me so highly, I am truly honored. As the Heavenly Emperor, you have deigned to share a drink with me, I am very grateful."
Gouchen Luomo said, "The Heavenly Emperor and the mortal are just different names. Without proving the Great Dao, they are still struggling in the mortal world under the Heavenly Dao. Why do you make fun of Gouchen, Brother Bai?" It was Bifang who was thinking of the matter of the Heavenly Court of the Demon Clan.
Bai Qi's face showed surprise, but his eyes revealed approval. He said, "I did not expect that Your Majesty's cultivation is so profound, seeing through all illusions and realities. It was my fault. Bai Qi and Your Majesty hit it off immediately. I truly do not wish to be Your Majesty's enemy! But we have no choice but to fight. I believe Your Majesty will not blame Bai Qi!"
Gou Chen drank the wine in his cup and laughed, "Not at all! We are all people in this mortal world, why bother with such talk?" Gou Chen paused for a moment and then said, "Gou Chen feels a strong fighting spirit right now and can't wait to have a big battle. I hope Brother Bai won't blame Gou Chen for taking a shortcut."
