The Wu tribe in the primordial world was divided into twelve large tribes, but each large tribe was further divided into countless medium and small tribes. Each medium and small tribe had its own leader. The leaders of small tribes were mostly ordinary great shamans, while medium-sized tribes often had several great shamans, and their leaders were mostly powerful among the great shamans, some of whom even rivaled the ancestral shamans in magical power.
Kuafu was the leader of a small tribe. The reason why Kuafu's tribe was small was not because Kuafu's magic power was weak, but because his tribesmen were all too big. The smallest of them was ten zhang tall. As they grew taller, their appetites also increased, and it was impossible to feed too many of them. Therefore, Kuafu had to implement "family planning", so the number of Kuafu's tribesmen was never large.
The place burned by the ten golden crows was the tribe where Kuafu lived. On this day, Kuafu went out hunting. When he returned, he saw a sea of fire. Many weak tribesmen were struggling and crying in the sea of fire. When he looked up, he saw the ten golden crows pointing in the sky, as if they were laughing at the shaman of the sea of fire.
Kuafu, his eyes blazing with fury, roared, “You hairy beast, how dare you!!!” He then revealed his true form, a thousand feet tall, with a yellow snake piercing each of his ears and another yellow snake wrapped around each of his arms, and holding a peach wood staff.
Kuafu struck the golden crow with his staff, sending one flying. The ten golden crows, ambushed by Kuafu, struck again, sending five more flying. They all angrily cursed Kuafu. After a while, the golden crow that had been sent flying flew back and said to the other golden crows, "Brothers, this man called us feathered beasts. We are princes of the demon race, with a noble status. Moreover, he just hit me with his staff. If we do not kill him this time, how can we face the world?"
"Indeed, indeed, we must kill this man to save face for us." The group of golden crows said, and the eldest flew out and said to Kuafu, "We were just playing and having fun here, and you not only insulted us for no reason, but also injured my fifth brother. We will not be able to quell our hatred if we do not avenge this." After saying that, he grabbed at Kuafu.
Seeing the attack, Kuafu also waved his hand to fight. One side possessed the bloodline of Pangu and the body of a great shaman, while the other was the essence of the sun, a descendant of the demon emperor; both possessed extraordinary supernatural powers. Kuafu was one of the great shamans below the ancestral shamans, born for battle. Since his birth, he had experienced countless battles, large and small, and his combat experience was far beyond that of the ten pampered young masters like the Golden Crows. The ten Golden Crows gradually fell into a disadvantageous position.
The tenth brother, panting, said to the eldest brother, "Brother, this can't go on. Why don't we lure Kuafu to the far western desert? The spiritual energy there is thin, but the sun's power is abundant, giving us the upper hand." Seeing the situation was similar, the eldest prince led his brothers towards the far western desert. Kuafu, seeing the ten golden crows fleeing, said nothing and simply chased after them with his staff. The ten golden crows led Kuafu towards the desert, occasionally turning back to engage him. Soon they reached the desert. This far western desert, located in the westernmost part of the primordial world, was barren of vegetation, with scarce spiritual energy, possessing only endless solar power—a perilous place in the primordial world. However, for the golden crows, it was a treasure trove.
The golden crows lured Kuafu deep into the desert, figuring he couldn't escape anytime soon. They turned and pounced on him, but this time they didn't attack all at once; instead, they took turns attacking in groups of five. Gradually, Kuafu lost his previous strength, his speed decreased, and his throat made a wheezing sound like a bellows. The eldest prince saw this and shouted, "Brothers, he's about to collapse! Let's all attack together!" He then joined the other four golden crows who were resting and rushed forward, no longer caring about the depletion of their true energy, recklessly spewing out the true fire of the sun.
Kuafu's body hair, beard, and body hair slowly turned yellow and curled. The four yellow snakes on his body also lost their previous vitality. Kuafu became increasingly furious, roaring repeatedly and wildly swinging his peach wood staff, but he could no longer hit the ten golden crows. The golden crows were famous in the prehistoric world for their true solar fire and speed. Moreover, Kuafu's absorption of spiritual energy could not keep up with the rate of loss, and since he was of the wood element, fire could overcome wood, making him weaker and weaker.
Just then, taking advantage of Kuafu's momentary lapse in attention, the Sixth Prince broke through the shadow formed by the peach wood staff, leaving three bloody claw marks on Kuafu's body. Kuafu trembled in pain, his peach wood staff slowing down, allowing more golden crows to pass through the staff's shadow and leave more claw marks on his body. Gradually, Kuafu's wounds increased, and finally, the Tenth Prince seized the opportunity, tearing open Kuafu's head with a claw. Kuafu roared and fell to the ground with a thud. The peach wood staff in his hand fell to the ground and transformed into a peach forest, which later generations called Denglin.
Xiao Shi took out a yellow gourd and collected the essence of the great witch Kuafu.
Twenty-five, Hou Yi shot down the suns, and Chang'e flew to the moon.
That day, Hou Yi felt a chill run down his spine, sensing that something terrible had happened. Suddenly, he saw flames rising from the Kuafu tribe, and he was secretly alarmed. When he arrived at the Kuafu tribe, he found only ashes everywhere, with only a few great shamans lying there panting. Upon inquiring, he learned that the ten golden crows had burned down the tribe, and Kuafu had already given chase. Hou Yi felt even more uneasy and set off in the direction Kuafu had gone.
Kuafu was tall and had a large stride. The Golden Crow flew extremely fast, and Houyi chased after him for quite a while before catching up. When Houyi arrived, he saw Kuafu lying dead on the ground. Houyi was furious. Seeing the ten Golden Crows still laughing in the sky, he roared, "You hairy beasts, born of no one and uneducated, dare to hurt my brother! I swear I will not be a witch if I do not avenge this!"
Having said that, Hou Yi took out the longbow from his back. This bow was no ordinary object; it was formed from Pangu's rib, and only Hou Yi among the Wu tribe could draw it—not even the Ancestral Witches could. Hou Yi then took out an arrow from his quiver. This arrow was forged from the essence of ten-thousand-year-old cold iron he had collected from the North Sea. It was remarkably effective in suppressing the true fire of the sun. Hou Yi had originally planned to forge twelve arrows specifically to suppress the Golden Crow tribe, but so far he had only forged nine.
Hou Yi drew his bow, nocked an arrow, aimed at a golden crow in the sky, and was about to shoot it.
