Xuan Tian's Discourse on Teachings, Nuwa Palace

When Nuwa saw Xuantian arrive, she quickly greeted him, bowing and saying, "Nuwa greets Senior Brother." Xuantian smiled and said, "Junior Sister, there's no need for such formalities." After exchanging greetings, Nuwa led them into the main hall. Nuwa pointed to the center of the hall, and a cloud rose to the right of her cloud bed, inviting Xuantian to sit down as a sign of respect. Xuantian sat down but did not speak. Nuwa also did not know how to start a conversation, and the two simply sat quietly.

Xuan Tian felt conflicted about Nuwa. In his previous life, Xuan Tian was human, and Nuwa created humans, thus incurring his deepest gratitude, akin to that of a mother. In this life, since his transmigration, Xuan Tian had been cautious and calculating, and his feelings towards Nuwa had shifted. Xuan Tian's current body was far too complex; his physical form alone was derived from Pangu's brain, placing him in a higher position than Nuwa. Naturally, he lacked the gratitude he felt for a mother. Nuwa was a demon, while Xuan Tian's origins were closer to the witch race. Demons and witches were inherently opposed, naturally leading to some antagonism between them. However, these were secondary. Since listening to the Dao at Zixiao Temple, Xuan Tian's relationship with Nuwa had become incredibly close. The scene of creating humans frequently appeared in Xuan Tian's mind. It could be said that if they weren't saints, but merely mortals, they might very well have become husband and wife. But after what happened later, Xuan Tian had long since dismissed these thoughts.

The demon race slaughtered the human race, and Nuwa did not stop it, even tacitly approving it. This caused great harm to Xuantian. The human race was created by the two of them, and Xuantian was born from the human race in his previous life. His feelings for the human race were extremely deep, like those for his own children. Nuwa's actions made Xuantian very sad. It was just like between ordinary couples. If a wife harms her own children for the sake of her family, no matter how difficult the situation is, the husband will not feel happy. If Xuan Tian had followed his original plan, he might have enjoyed a period of philandering, falling in love with both Hou Tu and Nuwa. However, in the end, Xuan Tian chose Hou Tu. Firstly, because Hou Tu was more pure, and secondly, because of the influence of Xuan Tian and Nuwa's status. Both of them were saints. Hong Jun was ruthless and domineering, and it would not be allowed for the two of them to become Daoist partners. Even if it were allowed, the other saints would not agree. After all, if two saints were to do that, what would become of their dignity? Moreover, Xuan Tian's cultivation was already profound. If he were to marry another saint, the two of them would be of one spirit and one branch, with a bond even deeper than that of the Three Pure Ones. This was not something that the saints wanted to see. Saints also need to maintain a balance.

Houtu is different. All the saints know about Houtu's love affair with Xuantian. Although Houtu is not a saint, her status is no lower than that of a saint. However, Houtu's cultivation is not as good as that of a saint, and she can only stay in the underworld. It is because of Houtu that she can be accepted by other saints.

Perhaps this is what they mean by "you can't have everything."

Nuwa's Thoughts (76)

The two remained silent for a long time without uttering a sound. Of course, a sage doesn't fart.

In the end, it was Nuwa who spoke first.

Nuwa raised her head, her tone carrying an indescribable sense of loss, and said, "Since Houtu transformed into the Six Paths of Reincarnation, I haven't seen you much, Senior Brother." Xuantian was taken aback, seemingly not understanding Nuwa's meaning. After thinking for a moment, he said, "You and I are saints, indestructible through countless eons. How can you say we've seen each other less often? Should true saints be like this?" Nuwa looked at Xuantian with a complicated expression, as if trying to discern something from his face, but the more she looked, the more blurred it became.

Xuan Tian seemed to be deliberately avoiding the question. Although he felt a little emotional, he did not show any discomfort on his face.

Nuwa sighed inwardly, "Fine, it was ultimately my fault." Nuwa's expression turned serious. "Senior brother, I won't lie to you. This human race was created by you and me, but you, as the eldest brother, bear the great merit of Pangu and should establish the Human Religion. Although I am dissatisfied, I cannot act rashly. Besides, you are the Holy Father of the human race..." At this point, Nuwa blushed slightly, secretly glancing at Xuantian, but seeing no change in his expression, she sighed even more deeply, yet could say nothing, only continuing, "Senior brother..." "As the Holy Father, you cannot educate the human race; you are the head of the true lineage of Pangu, yet you cannot contend with your eldest brother." Xuan Tian sighed slightly after hearing this, and laughed, "Junior sister is joking. Back then, the Dao Ancestor said that I was in charge of protecting the Xuanmen sect and maintaining the safety of heaven and earth, and was not allowed to establish a sect. Even so, the Dao Ancestor never said that I could not spread the Dao. I am, after all, the Holy Father of the human race, and I can still educate the human race." Nuwa's heart lit up, and she thought to herself that this was indeed the case; otherwise, how could the disciples of Penglai Island have such good fortune?

Xuan Tian continued, "However, since I will not establish a great religion, there are still some inconveniences in educating the human race. There must be a limit. Weren't those saints just jealous?" Nuwa sighed in her heart. Xuan Tian's situation was similar to hers. Penglai Island was still better off, as it had a deep foundation among the human race. As for her, she made one wrong move back then and lost everything.

Furthermore, Nuwa's strength was inferior to Xuantian's, and she did not possess any particularly good items to suppress the flow of fortune, making her insufficient to establish a religion. This was one of the reasons why she did not establish a religion. Otherwise, given her status as a saint of the demon race and a holy mother of the human race, she could easily establish a religion that would be stronger than others.

Nuwa understood Xuantian's meaning. Xuantian's words pointed out two points: First, as the Holy Father of the human race, although he could not establish a religion, he could still educate the human race. The key was to control the degree of influence so as not to offend other saints. Second, and equally important, if he, as the Holy Father of the human race, could do this, why couldn't she, as the Holy Mother of the human race, do the same? But ultimately, she too had to grasp the right balance, just like him.

However, Nuwa wasn't sure exactly what that limit was.

Seeing Nuwa's hopeful expression, Xuantian felt a pang of emotion. "The Nuwa of today is no longer that cute, somewhat naive, and single-mindedly focused girl in Zixiao Palace, nor is she the silly girl who kneaded clay and giggled when creating humans. You and I are fellow disciples, and the human race was created by the two of us, but ultimately, your strength is slightly inferior." Xuantian said this, and Nuwa didn't feel any resentment. After all, Xuantian was telling the truth, and she still needed his help. Moreover, given their relationship, these words weren't enough to cause any conflict.
